Cooley not getting it done where is the good recruiting at , providence got way better players. What happened? This isn’t getting better I see 13-14 wins not enough, Hoya basketball is dead for good . What a tragedy to falling this far. Over paid for a coach not doing anything. Go back to providence. This is garbage sick of this mess.

I too am somewhat disappointed in our transfer portal haul, but Coach Cooley has brought in a top 15-20 high school recruiting class. #2 in the conference behind UConn.

Bringing in a top high school recruiting class isn't exactly the best strategy when 75% of the class will just transfer the following year.

Bringing in a top high school recruiting class isn't exactly the best strategy when 75% of the class will just transfer the following year. So far he retained two out of two HS recruits as both Drews are back. McKenna was only on the team for the second half of the year and redshirted so that one should have been easier in theory but he still could have jumped ship after the disappointing year. Fielder definitely would have garnered interest on a P5 team yet he is back too. IMO he was the most important player to bring back from last year. The question is will Cooley be able to do it again this year with more recruits. So far he has shown he can.

Not certain if HoyaTalk members need a session in the psychiatric chair or an exorcism.
If the very least if you are going to start an entire new thread like this please provide actual details and more fleshed out arguments regarding why this roster is not better than last season. You may be right and if you are so confident of this stance it should be easy to make the case.

Hate to take the bait on a post like this, but really it is ridiculous to profess to know whether the roster is better or worse. Until they start playing it's just a collection of individual talents. Once the games start we will know what kind of team we have and how the individuals mesh. I am beyond frustrated with the program and disappointed in Cooley's first year too, but I don't know how you write off an upcoming season 6 months before it starts. All that is necessary is to recognize that Ewing's one trip to the NCAA tournament was probably accomplished with a group of kids that on paper were at best his 3rd most talented team heading into that season. Let's not write any obituaries yet.

Do we need a new thread just for one person's angst and negativity?

Again there are 356 teams players can go now and get paid with playing time. I think the off-season was a succeeds on paper. We picked up maybe the best PG, our biggest need. We return one of the best scorers in the big East at SG. We picked up one of the defensive SF in the portal, along with a young Kentucky recruit. Add in Sorber, who I’m most excited about and a strong bench and the pieces are there to be a bubble team for NCAA, defense might determine tiis is in the end

O.K., I'll take the bait, too.
Whether you like the 24-25 roster or not, I don't know how anyone thinks that this year's roster isn't a marked improvement over last year's. What happened to the many posters who have been clamoring for a center as a necessary final touch on a solid bunch of players? What do you conclude after comparing who we lost and who we replaced them with, player for player? Hard to see where we don't improve in size, quickness, defensive play, overall skills, bench -- the works.
Are we complete? Are we a sure bubble team for NCAAT? No. Could we have done better this off season in a couple of select positions? Yes. The jury is out on what this team can/will do this season, but I am in the camp that believes Cooley inherited a program that had been bad in several regards for a decade, and those who want/expect a faster turnaround are bitter and disappointed. Is Cooley a program savior with successes at Fairfield and Providence that we all hope/expect will be repeated here? We'll see, but to write the obituary now is just flailing around in an overwrought emotional mix of angst and pessimism. It's on Cooley and staff to put a team out there that shows definite signs of a program rising from the ashes. We won't know if this team will do that until they get out there - don't count them out before the first game.
Let's accept that in the real world it takes longer than a year to fix problems that had accrued over 8-10 years (maybe longer). Then let's reserve judgment on this year's team and approach the season with cautious optimism. I know we have waited a long time and suffered through many disappointments. The kids representing Georgetown want nothing more than to be successful. Let's get behind them.

This team is way too young for the talent to result in anything but a season where Georgetown finishes 2 - 4 games under .500 in the Big East. This is not a knock on the talent or the high school recruiting, or the addition of some interesting Sophomore talent through the portal. In the old days, this would lay the groundwork for an exciting future for the team. But we just have annual "travelling teams" these days, assembled for the upcoming year and the subsequently decimated as $$$ and playing time dictate post season moves. Will this group of (paid) kids be any different at Georgetown under Cooley? Based on the broader landscape of college basketball, this is not likely. But we will see.
Completely separately, it has been interesting watching Caitlin Clark adjust/struggle as a point guard in the WNBA facinng bigger, stronger and faster defenses. I wonder whether Malik Mack will face some of the same issues as he steps up levels in competition (and I know he had some solid games against good teams last year). Plus he will have to deal with Epps.....
This team will be better than last year. And defensive improvements (hopefully) will determine how much better the results will be.

Note that true freshman, pre-mono Mack was very effective against high major opponents in his very first games in college. I am not worried about Mack stepping up to a higher level of competition. I just hope that 3 point shooting was not the result of a small sample.
