Providence down by 3 late in the first to Central Connecticut late in the 1st half. Bryce Hopkins doesn’t appear in the box score. Hopkins probably won’t play until December. PC has been terrible offensively, 17 to’s so far in the game. BE team’s overall haven’t looked good so far besides St. John’s

Based on tonight, I don’t see why we can’t compete in this league

Probably says more about me than I like, but I have many of the same feelings about this upcoming season as I do about the election. Lots of reason to hope, but certainly not a done deal. Been looking forward to it and am anxious/excited that it's here. A bit weary, too, truth be known. Just want to have it be here and see what we have. Lastly, I can't bear to imagine what things will be like if it all goes south and we have a long stretch to grind out until help is on the way. Overall, though, I am excited and hopeful for what's coming, and looking forward to seeing this new team in action -- let's go!!!!

Nova without Dixon for this one game also looked decent but a totally different style than we are use to seeing. At least BE didn't look as bad as SEC.

A couple of observations from the box scores of last night's game.
Richmond had 17, 9, and 5 in St. John's opening win.
Butler got very little from players not named Telfort, Brooks, and McCaffrey. I wonder if BIsjack was injured. Telfort had 29. Can't wait to see Peavy marked up on this guy.
Bentley Joseph carried the day (21 points) for Providence in a game that was too close against Central Connecticut.
Seton Hall was all Chauce Jenkins is a low scoring, tight game. He had 19 & 6.
Wooga Poplar had 20 and 10 for Villanova. Brickus came back to earth with 4 assists and 4 turnovers after a 10 and 1 ratio scrimmage.
DePaul won in OT. Isaiah Rivera hit for 25 and 5. Jacob Meyer also contributed 23.
Queen from MD had 22 and 20.
Note: a lot of the top BE scorers were 3s. You would have to think having Peavy at the 3 should help us with match-ups there.

I don’t know about yall but it’s very refreshing to just look at the map of the big East. It looks so good and cohesive compared to the discombobulated messes that other conferences are now.

FS1 was doing a rotation of all 8 games so I saw bits of all of them. Butler, Providence, DePaul and Seton Hall all played sloppy. No great PGs on any of those teams. DePaul was lucky to escape. Meyers hit a 3 at the end of regulation to send it to OT. Nova looked decent without Dixon. Former Hoya TJ Berger still plays for Lafayette. Apparently coming off an injury so only played a little. Xavier game was very close until the end. Freemantle looked good after being out for two years. St John's looked good after the first 5 minutes. They hardly showed Marquette since they dominated from the start.

A terrible loss for Nova & the BE...
I've defended Neptune in the past but it's getting harder & harder to continue

When I hear that a fan base wants a coach fired after a bad loss, I wonder what Social Media would look like if UVA and Ralph Sampson lose to Chaminade in 2024 as opposed to 1992.

I think Nova fans dissatisfaction with Neptune is a continuation from last season when Nova lost to Penn early in the season before also falling to Saint Joseph's and Drexel. So it's not just this one game but a cumulative dissatisfaction. Local teams beating them (in the same way we lost to AU) enhances their displeasure with Neptune.

Can we get two Ws before they fire him? How long has it been since we swept Nova?!

Did anyone else watch Depaul dismantle Prairie View A&M last night? Holtmann’s live by the three, die by the three team looks like a much more dangerous opponent than the Depaul teams of recent past. I know that Prairie View A&M is a bottom tier team (currently 352 in Kenpom), but it seems pretty likely to me that Depaul is going to have some very hot shooting nights that allow them to compete and win games one wouldn’t expect in the big east this year. I can see Georgetown struggling against them if our perimeter team defense doesn’t improve from where it was against Lehigh.
On the Nova side, everyone kind of knew this year is Neptune’s last stand. At least how it looks RN, I’d guess he’s the first high major coach to get the axe this season. Eric Dixon returning gave Neptune more preseason credibility than seems justified. I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up being the worst team in the conference.
*Either of these takes may age very badly by March.*

DePaul will scare some teams during the BE season. As for Nova, they're not going to fire Neptune during the season and probably not after either but he's been bad so far. I've always thought that Wright did him a disservice bringing him back so quickly, he wasn't ready for this level of job.
