For those of us anti- FaceXinstawhatever : what does this mean? something re Styles? Thanks That was my question above. It seems to be Styles (in Hoya uniform) announcing a new NIL deal. But I’m not sure I’m reading it correctly.

But I’m not sure I’m reading it correctly. My take is Styles has a new NIL agent. That agent appears to have 2 other clients, neither of which I've ever heard of. Not sure why Styles would need to advertise this information, but whatevs...

...Can GU get the coaching situation squared away and then get some visits??? They need more than Ivan Thomas, no? Ivan Thomas role is the only gap. Hoyas have a large deep staff that filled in. The lead recruiting slot is the one needed. ok thanks. thought Ivan was taking some with him.

Rowan’s 2025 Projected net BPR is 3.0 higher than his 2022-2023 actual net BPR. Not sure why unless he has a crystal ball.

The subplot around us filling the assistant coaching vacancy is the most interesting thing happening in the program at the moment. Seems like a lot of jockeying among the AAU power brokers. Keep a close eye on that if you're interested in seeing where things go in the portal and in the '25 class.

Annoying politics it seems smh At least it shows an assistant position here is still desired. How quick after hiring an assistant do we get our first transfer?

Believe somebody called that this would be used as an excuse. Who is using it as an excuse? I don't see Hilltop making an excuse. He is saying that who is on staff will impact who we get. This seems like common sense, no? Only a tiny handful of players have committed in the portal thus far, and almost all the the top ranked players are uncommitted. But go ahead, keep pushing the narrative. That said, if Kenny Johnson is the guy, let's nail it down. If, instead, the staff is considering someone else, such as someone on a team that's still active, then so be it. There have been tons of tweets about guys being contacted by Georgetown. I don't think anybody is sitting on their hands waiting for Thomas' role to be filled.

Why do you continue wasting your time and energy talking to this guy as if he is having a good faith discussion? He is not a serious poster, don't take his bait. I do not know anything about the staff's plan, but my perception is that there was mutual interest with Johnson last week. And maybe it still could happen, but there are some important people who would be unhappy about it. If you hire Johnson you strengthen your ties with TTO, and there are a number of Takeover guys in the portal right now or expected to be soon including McDaniel, Perkins, Mack, Mintz, Dickinson again(?), Terrence Williams, Julian Reese, etc. Seems like Johnson would help on that front (no guarantees, but it doesn't hurt). On the flip side, if you get in bed with Takeover, some of the rival AAU organizations are not going to be happy and will potentially steer their players away, for the same reason that a lot of AAU teams steered kids away from the Thompsons after the whole JT2/Falk/DC Assault fiasco over Jeff Green. One of those rival organizations is the one where our top 2025 targets play. So, it is not necessarily an easy or straight-forward decision and Cooley may need to try to smooth things over or consider his other options. TTO is always going to have some solid players in the pipeline but relying so heavily on one AAU program may be tough. Lot to consider.

I get nervous with coaches bring players as assistants joining as the players may not follow and what else does the assistant bring as background. Who knows if Johnson is coming and has players with him. If that was direction a week or so ago it could be why one player went to the portal (just a hunch and perhaps a strong one) that the player took it as being recruited over for the next three years, but also having a coach where there may be bad blood. Like you mentioned, AAU connected college coaches bring contacts, but may also bring baggage. TTO is a successful AAU / shoe travel team. They are aggressive and have a lot of bad blood with many other top AAU / shoe travel teams, particularly in the DMV. But, there are a lot of players what really don't like them (for a host of reasons). Their are AAU / shoe travel teams that are well liked and successful and others that look out for them selves and are very aggressive. It could be good to have a recruiting coach with solid connections and is tenacious. But, also know there may be downsides, which I'm sure EC and others are aware of as they have a lot of experience with this in the Boston and edge of NY recruiting areas.

Couldn't we just take one each from multiple AAU organizations and give everyone a slice of the pie? I know it's not that simple, but I also don't think it has to be necessarily an either-or situation at this point.

Thomas was a recruiter, but not sure if Fahey was one of the three assistants allowed to recruit or not. So, at most 2 recruiting assistants. Fahey was helping with player development and game planning and sideline assistance. A few times during home game broadcasts announcers called out the size of the Georgetown staff stating it was one of the largest staff in the Big East.

I think those roles tend to be considered as having more pull. But if the Player Development role can go to someone else in the competing AAU team, the more the more the merrier, I agree. I really don't know these politics at all to say whether that's even possible.

I know it's not that simple, but I also don't think it has to be necessarily an either-or situation at this point. This occurred to me too. One of the open positions is a special assistant meaning they can recruit on-campus but not off, Johnson still has a show cause penalty that would prevent him from recruiting off campus for the next year anyway, why not plug him into that role (even if you have to overpay beyond what that position usually commands) and move him into a full assistant role down the line when he's eligible to be out on the road (and Blaney or Battle retires/moves on)? Not like we'd need him on the road to help with the existing college players in the portal. Then give Thomas's spot to someone who appeases Team Durant? Not sure it's quite that simple though, or that everybody is capable of playing nice. The issue maybe isn't so much "you picked one of their guys instead of one of our guys" but, "we dont want our guys around him (Johnson) because he's going to try to funnel them to a certain agent." So the idea of everybody being handed a position and living in harmony side-by-side on the Hoyas bench may not be realistic. It's not an easy decision, and navigating this kind of thing is part of why Ed is handsomely paid. I feel exponentially better about his ability to handle it than I did Ewing's (or more realistically, Ronny's), but it's a bit of a minefield nonetheless. We'll likely see where it lands in the next week or so, but I don't think it's quite as simple as some people want to make it out to be. I know everyone is antsy for positive news of some kind and I am too, but I'm also ok with giving Cooley a little more time to work it all out. I don't think we're materially losing ground with any of the important targets given that we've shown up on a ton of lists and it's still very early in the process.
