The athleticism and length would be a welcome addition to the team and fill some holes the roster currently has, but Cooley seems to put a premium on getting players that fit the type of program he is trying to build. I had never heard of this young man until this afternoon, and this thread, so I don't know what type of person and teammate he is, but I would think Ish could give some guidance here. If there are any red flags with this young man, then I say take a pass, but if his character checks out and fits what the staff is looking for, then I would not have a problem giving him a chance if he was interested. He was in a college bar fight. I saw that when I read the article on the KSU newspaper site that was linked above. College bar fights are tough things to really determine who was at fault without a little more context. Was he defending himself? Did he start the fight? As a general rule, I would hope these kids know they are under a microscope these days and know enough to walk away from a bad situation, but that is easy to say when you are an old guy like I am. I am sure the staff can get the real story and find out what type of person he is, and if they think he would be a fit, then I trust their judgement, but if there is any red flags, then walking away might the best option

I would hope we wouldn’t take a guy who got kicked out of Kansas State. Did we not learn our lesson with Josh LeBlanc? Didn’t Josh transfer. I thought you were applauding his decision. Wrong guy. You're thinking of Galen Alexander, who was kicked out of LSU before enrolling at Georgetown. LeBlanc came in as a freshman, he hadn't gotten kicked out of anywhere before coming here.

Maybe he takes the NIL for half a season we may have available that others have allocated? Clear path to decent PT? Wonder what his relationship with Ish is/was? I can't get in his head, but if he has the opportunity to: transfer to any situation he wants (best combo of comfort, cash, and competitiveness) in the summer transfer to a good team now for 3 months & hope to fit in quickly transfer to a bad team now for 3 months & hope to fit in quickly it seems like our situation would be a distant 3rd. Who knows? Lots of questions here. Maybe not everybody is willing to give him the opportunity - including us. Transfer to a place where you have a good friend is also in the equation. Both Ish and Tomlin are from Harlem.

These kids have lots of friends who play all over the country, and there are dozens of other factors that are all part of it. Having a friend here can't hurt, but it's hardly a driving factor. Anyway - from what it sounds like already, our interest is very limited.

That would be understandable, but if that’s the not the case this guy would make a ton of sense.

That got the whole ball rolling on the scheme to graduate and last minute transfer with immediate eligibility.

More context: The Wichita Eagle ‘I want to be free’: Nae’Qwan Tomlin ready for K-State basketball suspension to endwww.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article282756153.htmlThe K-State student section chanted the words “We want Nae’Qwan” several times on Tuesday night as the Wildcats defeated Villanova 72-71 in an exciting overtime game at Bramlage Coliseum. Then, on Wednesday, Tomlin turned to social media to express the same sentiment. Bring up his Instagram account and you will find a picture of Tomlin dribbling a basketball as the words “I want to be free” scroll across the top of the screen and lyrics from the Deniece Williams song “Free” play in the background...If Tang is unable to explain why Tomlin isn’t playing, then what’s going on? The answer to that question is nebulous. But the prevailing sentiment on campus is that university president Richard Linton has reservations about allowing Tomlin back on the court. Until that changes, he is expected to remain on the sideline. That theory has gained so much steam that a group of K-State students gathered outside of Linton’s house in a mini protest on Wednesday and voiced their support of Tomlin...
If Linton is, indeed, getting involved in this saga, that could create a rift between Tang and the university president. The Eagle reached out to Linton for comment. A representative from his office said she would look into the request but did not have an official response as of Wednesday afternoon.Nae’Qwan Tomlin came closer to leaving Kansas State for NBA Draft than many realizewww.kansas.com/sports/college/big-12/kansas-state/article278033498.htmlAfter he got done working out with the San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Charlotte Hornets, Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks and Portland Trailblazers he felt like he was ready to make the jump. “I definitely did, because a lot of my workouts were pretty good,” Tomlin said. “So that was definitely a thought. But I just felt like one more year (of college) wouldn’t hurt, especially because I’m new to this whole basketball thing.” Indeed, Tomlin took an unusual path to college basketball stardom. He didn’t start playing organized basketball until after he graduated from high school and then spent three years learning the game in junior college before he caught on with the Wildcats and averaged 10.4 points and 5.9 rebounds last season...NBA scouts shared two main pieces of advice with Tomlin as he works to help K-State build on a 26-win campaign and push himself toward a professional career. First and foremost, they told him to add muscle to his frame so he can better fight for rebounds and spend more time at center than stretch forward or wing. Secondly, they urged him to improve his outside shooting. Tomlin weighed 210 pounds and made 27.5% of his 3-pointers last season. But he was virtually unstoppable when he found mismatches in the paint and heated up from the perimeter. He wants to bulk up to 225 and shoot closer to 40% from 3 so those games start happening more often.

No LeBlanc transferred to LSU. And wasn’t kicked out of Georgetown. He transferred out from Georgetown to LSU. As a freshman, Galen Alexander went on a leave of absence as a freshman under Will Wade. There were multiple reports he had gotten into trouble there shooting people with paintball guns or something like that. Alexander then joined Georgetown for his sophomore season. LeBlanc was also a sophomore at Georgetown the same year. Of course, after the troubles causing the mass exodus, both Galen Alexander AND LeBlanc left. LeBlanc went to LSU. I don't recall what happened to Galen Alexander. I don't think any of our players who left during the mass exodus were technically kicked out. I think all of them technically transferred on their own, but it was always questionable as to how voluntary all of that was.

In fact it was just that because Tang said that was the exact reason Ish left in a press conference

I wouldn't expect Ish to say any different.

Wouldn't it also make sense to go to a place where you can further get playing time to feature what you're good at and/or showcase your growth/development to help with your draft status? If that's the case, one would think that would bump up the openness to come to Georgetown vs a better team that likely has less PT. Been stranger destinations/situations.

I just don't know if throwing someone in mid-season is something Cooley would be open to.

Tempting but a couple of questions:
does this mean that someone would get bumped off the roster? Or is there still one scholy available for just this scenario?
bigger issue, Ed's been making inroads with this group, some work in the trenches. They've got grit and identity. Does he risk tainting that? Maybe it's just me but I can't shake the mercenary vibe of this kind of transfer.

That only Bacote is on scholarship of the walk ons. Tomlin only has 1 year of eligibility left.

Could be the missing piece we need to get us into the tournament.

Could be the missing piece we need to get us into the tournament. I think so. Even with the impact we’ve seen with Ish’s return, a presence like this (along with continued team growth) would make a difference. But like other posters have said, at what cost.
