“Tomlin is set to graduate this semester and could potentially enroll as a grad transfer at a different university. He would be eligible to play at the beginning of next semester, as he has not appeared in a game yet this season. Should he decide to grad transfer, there are a handful of high major schools with scholarships available. Schools that make sense for Tomlin include Georgetown, Kansas, Miami, Oregon, Providence and West Virginia.” burnerball.com/naeqwan-tomlin-no-longer-with-kansas-state/

He could only help us. Haven't seen anything specific about his eligibility, though it looks like he's got just a year left after 3 seasons at JC (one of them was the COVID year) and 1 year at KSU.
Not sure why he'd want to join a team that doesn't figure to have a very competitive 2nd half of the year... but hey... if Ed & Tomlin are up for it, come join the party.

Maybe he takes the NIL for half a season we may have available that others have allocated? Clear path to decent PT? Wonder what his relationship with Ish is/was?

I can't get in his head, but if he has the opportunity to: transfer to any situation he wants (best combo of comfort, cash, and competitiveness) in the summer transfer to a good team now for 3 months & hope to fit in quickly transfer to a bad team now for 3 months & hope to fit in quickly it seems like our situation would be a distant 3rd. Who knows? Lots of questions here. Maybe not everybody is willing to give him the opportunity - including us.

I don't know if you spend political capital taking a guy who was kicked off the team at KSU in a rebuilding year unless he materially changes 2024-2025 and you're guaranteed him for 2024-2025.

I think it's doubtful between his checkered history (KSU prez dismissed him against the recommendation of the ADs office for whatever that's worth) and the fact he'd be limited to 1 semester this season.
Having said that he's a guy on NBA draft boards (second round) so you do your due diligence. As others have said, Ish should know him well.

Isn’t it enough that they have Hunter Dickinson

Obviously just a short highlight video, but you can see why NBA teams are interested.
Size. Athleticism. Handle for his size. Ability to guard multiple positions.

I would hope we wouldn’t take a guy who got kicked out of Kansas State. Did we not learn our lesson with Josh LeBlanc?

The athleticism and length would be a welcome addition to the team and fill some holes the roster currently has, but Cooley seems to put a premium on getting players that fit the type of program he is trying to build. I had never heard of this young man until this afternoon, and this thread, so I don't know what type of person and teammate he is, but I would think Ish could give some guidance here. If there are any red flags with this young man, then I say take a pass, but if his character checks out and fits what the staff is looking for, then I would not have a problem giving him a chance if he was interested.

I don’t see this happening given the bad vibes coming out of the situation, but Tomlin is an excellent rebounder and elite defender, which are the two things this team desperately needs and would take the team most likely into a top half of the conference caliber squad. Plus with his skillset you absolutely could play him at either the 4 or 5 depending on the look you’re going for.

Trilly Donovan has a pretty strong track record on these things. The fact he lists us (and first at that) lead me to believe there is a real possibility this could happen. The Ish connection I wouldn’t downplay either.

If he is on draft board as other have mentioned, then sitting out and transferring for another season is a good way to fall off any draft boards. And agree that our situation is the last he would probably want considering we are trying to rebuild as a team, not really looking for someone who wants to show off for the league for half a season (not assuming he is but it might not be worth the risk to disrupt chemistry). I trust Cooley to make the right call and probably talk to Ish.
