In other words a perfect ranking range for the kind of kids Cooley wants.

"The biggest risers in 247Sports' updated 2024 basketball rankings 247Sports updated ranking of the class of 2024 features several prospects making big leaps... THOMAS SORBER, C: ARCHBISHOP RYAN (PA) Recruitment: Committed to Georgetown. Previous ranking: 106 New Ranking: 64 Why he moved: The development of Thomas Sorber over the last 12 months has been something to see. He’s gotten serious about his body and managed to cut out some baby fat while retaining strength and improving his quickness. He has very soft hands, catches everything and really knows how to control space when he’s on the floor. He hasn’t yet gotten to take a lot of jump shots, but he shows some promising signs as a jump shooter. We could see him developing into a guy who has to be respected out to 15 feet and perhaps even beyond. We’ve seen a lot of similar big men be quite successful in the Big East over the past few years and he’s got a chance to be one of the next success stories in that league." 247sports.com/longformarticle/college-basketball-basketball-rankings-basketball-recruiting-big-211303169/#2179576

In a year or two with more conditioning, he ought to be a problem for other teams.

If this kids stock keeps rising, we better be ready to match or beat whatever offers he’s going to get when the big boys with the deep pockets start circling.

You know nothing about this kid and what he values. You don’t seem to also get that there are not exactly bidding wars going on for even the elite recruits. That is reserved for the transfers apparently. I won’t waste time going over who Sorber is and why he said he chose Gtown because it would be a waste of time and effort. I can’t understand why Hoya fans have become Chicken Little in regards to high school recruits. The so-called Big Boys are not necessarily swooping in to go after valuable recruits after they committed. They instead put their efforts in the direction of kids who have yet to make a decision. If Sorber had not committed to the Hoyas and if he was also one of those guys in awe of the coaches of Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, etc I would be worried.

Be ready to match or beat whatever offers he gets after his freshman year. Point is, in the current landscape of college basketball, no roster player should be considered safe on a yearly basis unless we’re willing to put our money where our mouth is.

Point is, in the current landscape of college basketball, no roster player should be considered safe on a yearly basis unless we’re willing to put our money where our mouth is. Maybe its just this board, but the Hoya fanbase is damaged goods. You guys can't enjoy any bit of good news, you would rather place an asterixis, a future warning perhaps, next to everything. I suppose this is the result of the dumpster fire the program had become. I can understand the weariness. But the non-stop negativity is ridiculous. I mean the person on this site who posts the most and types more words than half of the board combined, is a guy that many see as some sort of troll. What has become of this place? So now when we get a terrific recruit who plays terrifically, what you get on this board is more apprehension than anything. Worrying about if a recruit will remain true to his commitment. Thinking the player should reclassify and get to college a year earlier (missing his important senior year in high school in the process) just so us fans can feel secure that the player won't abandon his commitment to the Hoyas after giving time. Fretting that if a Hoya recruit actually does well he could actually rise in the rankings and draw attention from the Blue Bloods. It makes me think that people here would rather have our recruits play below expectations in order to ensure they do not draw any unwanted attention. But wait. If those recruits actually drop in ranking there will be even more concern in these parts that the staff isn't bringing in dudes who can help the team compete in the Big East. Which would lead to increased feelings of panic. A few of you guys have a no-win scenario mindset. Yes, the landscape of college athletics is changing again. It does not mean the current staff isn't prepared for that change. It doesn't mean other schools are interested, willing or able of poaching our best players whether its after they commit/sign with the Hoyas or after they play for the team. On this page participants appear to be more willing to wallow in low expectations and see only the potential catastrophes rather than celebrate when a recruit signs with Georgetown or plays well. We should be filling up the threads of individual recruits with excites responses when they play well, but those threads instead remain largely dormant. We would rather focus on the negative. Thankfully Cooley and his staff, on their own, are charismatic and convincing enough to knock it out of the park when it comes to recruiting for 2024 and beyond, because they definitely can't rely on enthusiastic fan support to help them out. No outstanding recruit would pick the Hoyas based on the vibes they get from this site. Too much negativity and skepticism. Here's a thought for all of us. Try enjoying good news instead of looking for all signs of pending doom that may await down the road. It is better for one's health.

Talking about negativity, try reading back your post. There’s no need to be so dramatic and divisive. It’s simple. The GU fan base is suffering PTSD, or Post Thompson/Ewing Stress Disorder. And with good reason. Everyone knows it. I trust the recruits to be smarter than what you mention. I trust Cooley to be smarter than what you mention. They know winning will cure all. By the way, as to the poaching, it’s now part of the game and everyone knows it. You should buckle up because Georgetown’s poaching of one of our conference’s best coaches will be a talking point each and every game.
