Nice! Growth and confidence go hand in hand. Loving watching his progress. Congrats!

Very excited for Rowan’s future on the hilltop. Hoyas haven’t had a difference making POINT guard like him since Akinjo. Still a long ways to go, especially on the turnovers, but you can see the outline of what will eventually be a true lead guard in the conference in upcoming seasons showing already. Also good to see he seems to have chemistry already with Fielder. If they both are here for four years they will be two of the best players in the conference.

As I said during the offseason, both of our freshmen (Rowan and Fielder) have a real shot at making the BE Freshmen Team. IIRC, the last time that happened was with Mac and Akinjo. Kind of similar circumstances (i.e., plenty of pt, lack of depth, etc…). I have no idea how other BE freshmen are doing, but wishing Rowan and Drew the best!

Nice award for Rowan.
Brumbaugh's open court dribbling is a big weakness that needs to be addressed. He seems to dribble it a little high and into the opponent. Hahaha.

Crazy to think that it wasn't just Mac and Akinjo on that team but also LeBlanc!

He has the mindset of a PG, but not the handle or the quickness. It'll be interesting to see if he can grow and compensate. Then again, people said that about Jon Wallace, and he was fantastic for us. Rowan looks like he should be that accurate; I hope he gets there.

While I do like Brumbaugh, I have concerns about him on the defensive end of the court.

While I do like Brumbaugh, I have concerns about him on the defensive end of the court. Found somewhere on Xitter, leads class in steals and Top 5 in Rebbies, suggests all is not lost defensively “FWIW, Rowan leads all Big East freshmen in Points, Assists, and Steals. He's even top 5 in rebounds per game. pretty impressive given anyone watching the games knows how much room for improvement there is, and optimism it'll happen”

(And it helps that he's not really a FR...) He's been fine, but there's a long way to go. These last two games have been a good opportunity for him, and he acquitted himself nicely. Let's hope we see more progress in the conference slate.

While I do like Brumbaugh, I have concerns about him on the defensive end of the court. Rowan is the only person on our team who regularly forces steals. In fact, his Steal Rate is 67th best in all of Division I. And while advanced defensive stats have limitations and we have small sample sizes so far, they show he's one of our better defenders, and he's part of many of the better defensive lineups we have. I actually think with time he's going to be a really good defender, particularly if he keeps the steal numbers up.

It's just that the people he's guarding never actually seem bothered by him being there. He's less consistently beat to my eye than he's there, he's between man and hoop, and it doesn't affect the shooter at all. He's either backing off too much to stay between man and goal or he simply isn't strong at actually contesting. He does get beat, too, and he's had some mental errors, but man, he also just doesn't bother anyone. The steals are great and really help to offset that.

He has a coach that is very capable of fixing all that. He's not nearly a finished product, but he has improved a lot of his deficiencies already in 10 or so games.

(And it helps that he's not really a FR...) He missed an entire game because of illness and played at least two in which he was still in recovery from that illness. Give him some slack. Even with his one game suspension Dual should be the one cleaning up among the freshmen. And unlike Dual who was predicted to not only compete for BE Rookie of the Year but even be a lottery pick by a few, Rowan wasn't predicted to make All Big East freshman team. Additionally based on sources provided on HR, the coaching staff going into the season felt Rowan really had to get rid of the rust off his game after not playing last season, so I don't see how you think his not really being a freshman is actually a plus for him. Considering his junior season in high school was also erased because of covid, Rowan wasn't playing in two of his three prior years before his arrival at Georgetown.

If the target is development, I'd like to see the staff push his minutes up over the remainder of the season.

Rowan is going to be really good. People pine for Jonathan Wallace but forget that people panned about his limited athleticism every year he was year. Everyone couldn't wait for Chris Wright. The point is you can win a lot of different ways. Kolek isn't all that athletic and yet his pace and composure help him be successful. I can see Rowan in that role. He will get stronger which he definitely needs and his height is a plus. He will figure it out.

Kolek is actually fast at this level with good lateral movement. Rowan isn’t slow but he’s about average speed at this level. Lateral movement isn’t great but defensively he makes up for it with great hands, technique, desire and defensive Iq.

Here's one other thing I like about this play that tells me about the player Rowan is: he clearly wants to show Pierre, who is guarding him, something, and he puts the ball on the floor, drives past him, and drops in a layup. He has a little trash talking to do before he gets back on defense. Then - watch the end of the video as PC calls time out -- it looks like Pierre and maybe another Friar want to take issue with it all, and the coaches separate them and they go to time out. I'm not a huge fan of trash talking, but I do appreciate a player who is confident in his ability, esp. in a high-stakes moment, and who uses his play and then his words to get in the head/under the skin of his opponent, Larry Bird style. Rowan's got game, and I hope that the coaches give him the coaching and minutes to develop that game. He definitely has something to enhance play on the floor and a unique floor vision and pass-first mentality that I hope and expect will make us better every year.
