Complete hogwash on the "2023 recruiting cycle" - that cycle was just beginning for the transfer portal when Cooley was hired. The reality is that Cooley struck out with his top targets, notably Hunter Dickinson and Cam Spencer. He identified those kids as targets, some have said that he tampered to get them to transfer away from their previous schools, he just couldn't reel them in. How much time in the "2023 recruiting cycle" did Eilert at West Virginia have to get his roster together? Yet he's got a better transfer portal class than Cooley. "Better transfer portal class"

If Akok did graduate, it would either need to be from Connecticut or Georgetown, obviously. I am not sure how that works with people who do 3 years one place, and then 1 year at Georgetown. In any event, Connecticut's graduation programs, which are online, list all graduates and Akok was not listed. Georgetown does not make their graduation list public (or if they did, I cannot find it), but I don't recall seeing any indications Akok graduated from Georgetown either. Of course, he could always have graduated following summer session classes (the second phase of which is over in a couple of days). Not sure where this gossip started but some fact checking on graduation requirements, below (emphasis in bold). You cannot graduate at Georgetown with any undergraduate degree in one year. "Students must complete a minimum of four semesters of full-time study (exclusive of summer study; for these purposes a semester is considered to be fall or spring in the regular academic year only) in residence at Georgetown. Study abroad at one of Georgetown’s campuses (GU-Q, Villa le Balze) counts toward the four-semester residency requirement, but all other Georgetown-approved study abroad programs do not. "A minimum of 60 credits must be completed in residence, in Georgetown coursework." bulletin.georgetown.edu/schools-programs/college/academic-requirements/Akok Akok graduated Georgetown in this year's ceremony (was in that book listing graduates as well) - did he get a degree from Georgetown last summer and then not walk until this year? Does the residency requirement apply to basketball players?

Does the residency requirement apply to basketball players? I did not see his name on the ceremonies but yes, he's one of 15 recipients (along with Jay Heath) in the commencement book with the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies, which can be taken, all or part, online. According to the 2024 commencement program, Akok completed his studies August 21, 2023, having committed to West Virginia eleven days prior. Yes, he has a degree and not one though UConn or a West Virginia extension school, though I was honestly confused when his bio at WVUSports.com said he was "completing a second undergraduate degree" at WVU. The University's documentation clearly states "A minimum of 60 credits must be completed in residence, in Georgetown coursework." How that applies to an online program is subject to interpretation, but if he took 60 credits online across summer 2022, fall 2022, spring 2023, and summer 2023, he completes a 120 credit degree.

At some point, the rules were changed to allow graduate transfers to pursue a second bachelors degree rather than a master's or other graduate degree. I assume it was likely done either because some universities do not have graduate programs or because bachelor's programs are easier to fit into the basketball schedule/lifestyle.

Also BLS or Masters in sports management classes can be taken online. IIRC, Rodney Pryor was taking sports management classes when he was here.

Yes...Akok Akok appears to have gotten his degree through Georgetown's own "extension school"....the School of Continuing Studies.
