Any doubt that Cooley is going to do big things here is officially put to rest. Expect more

This is not a great start. This is the type of player that doomed Ewing. Cooley has plenty of spots so this isn’t a huge deal. I just hope this is not the mold of player he will be bringing in.

Any doubt that Cooley is going to do big things here is officially put to rest. Expect more "Ahead of the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City, No. 22 TCU men’s basketball center Eddie Lampkin Jr. stepped away from the team. In a since-deleted Instagram post, Lampkin posted a series of screenshots of text messages that accused TCU men’s basketball head coach Jamie Dixon of misconduct and racially insensitive comments. The first post was allegedly between Lampkin’s mother, Vanessa Lampkin and Dixon. “Vanessa, thank you [for] taking the time to speak with us yesterday,” the text reads. “I am sorry that I was not able to get Eddie to reach the levels we had both hoped for. I understand that Eddie is entering the transfer portal…Wish him all the success. The first day for NCAA transfer portal is Monday March 13. We will expedite immediately. If there is anything we can do, please let me know. Coach Dixon.” The next message appeared to be a reply from Vanessa Lampkin who responded, “Coach Dixon, we did not talk yesterday and no one has told you from our end that Eddie is entering the transfer portal. We discussing your behavior towards him. I do not appreciate the way you and everyone at TCU is making it about the transfer portal and not abut the real reason he is not there with the team he loves.” She concludes with, “If you all don’t tell the truth of how you have mistreated, disrespected and said racial remarks towards him, we will,” the text continues. “Please do not disrespect my son’s name because all we have been is patient with YOU. Handle us with Christian values for once.” tcu360.com/2023/03/09/lampkin-jr-steps-away-from-tcu-basketball/

Cooley just got done proving he could turn a conditioning/work ethic issue into a solid player with Croswell. No reason to doubt Cooley feels he can do the same with a higher upside player in Lampkin. That 20 and 12 performance he had against Zona 2 Years ago in the tourney was impressive.
If Cooley could get Ezewiro and Akok to stick around and hold Ezewiro accountable on the defensive end - I'd be pretty thrilled with our paint presence.

Text chain:
Coach Cooley: Lamp, I told you not to tell anyone until next week
Lampkin: My bad coach I'll take care of it 😉

Ewing is the type of coach that doomed Ewing. He couldn’t construct a roster or communicate with and get the best out of kids. Cooley has a track record.

Indeed I think any judgements about what kind of players he “brings in” rn are premature as we don’t know who will even stick around from this past year. He’ll probably talk to the remaining players over the next few days and maybe by the end of the week I would be more comfortable judging his choices lol. Like Lampkin can be a useful player but not 3 of him on one roster so tbd

It was rumored for a while that Bynum and Cooley didn't get along last season. I'd highly doubt he would even be in the mix.

There was a bit of a problem from our staff allowing our team to party the night before the Noon game, but as we know now our staff wasn't exactly.....focused anymore.

I think we have a good shot at lambkin and the 3 California kids that Cooley recruited.
Some other kids also asked to get out of his letter of intent to Providence today.

What is the consensus on Murray? Remember at one point when he announced into the portal from LSU, he was rated the #1 transfer. There is something there for sure:
I didn't like the body language or turnovers but he was a different player at LSU

But can’t hit free throws (so liability in crunch time) ball dominant and consistency/motor is a problem. Leadership a real problem and doesn’t take ownership of mistakes. We need to move on.

Would also rather use the huge nIl money for a franchise type player instead of somehow who is just happy collecting a far paycheck

I really hope Cooley can recruit at a high level ST. Johns is flipping a top 5 player in the country in the 2024 class from here in NY Ian Jackson. Pitino is going to have St. Johns rolling quickly. The Vitamin water $$ is going to get ST. Johns back in the National Title hunt within 3 years.
