Ed Cooley Y1 wishlist :
- Chris Wright NBA Jersey put up (did they fix this already? if so, just leak a picture of it hanging up there in all its glory) - UMD game - return of the bobbleheads (we used to have great bobblehead promotions) - Red Panda - spellcheck enabled on TAC computers

[Click on the Lee Reed image to see the whole thing. I don't want to take anything away from Ed Cooley here because I think he'll do a much better job with relationships with all stakeholders (alumni, fans, students, players, MSG security personnel who check IDs, his own assistants, etc etc), but this looks like Lee Reed stepping in right away to try to fix some of the stuff he knows is broken and that he may not have been empowered to do anything about in the last six years. If Lee Reed now has some degree of control to work on the basketball program that would be a huge step in the right direction.

Really excited for a new era in Georgetown basketball. For me, it feels like a long nightmare is finally over, and I can enjoy Hoya basketball again. I welcome the competency of Coach Cooley. I think it means a lot that he left a comfortable job, knowing there would be hate coming from those he left, to answer the challenge of restoring a once proud national brand. Cooley wants to be here, this is no stepping stone, he believes he can win a championship here. Looking forward to discussing Hoyas basketball again.

And speaking of Red Panda, second that too! She was in the Garden for the Thursday afternoon doubleheader for the BET last week and unfortunately had a tough outing on the hardwood (lotta that going around). Took her several attempts a few different times to get it done. I guess even she can have one of those days (but I doubt hers will last six years, so let’s get her to Cap One!) Another thing, more substantive: Sidwell Friends has a motto “Culture wins.” It is both apt and accurate. One of the things I really like about the hire, and without meaning to disrespect the old regime (too) much, is that Cooley brings a real cultural change for the better with him…

A breath of fresh air. Glad you are here! Some unsolicited thoughts 1. Upgrade the schedule, add Md, GWU, VA 2. Energize your fan base. Meet with the Alum and demand a minimum reserved ticket quota of 4500 or you don't play downtown but on campus 3. Eliminate the trip to the beach tournament, who benefits from that other than the fat alumni 4. Consider giving students priority on all lower bowl seats 5. Engage the community ( more than free tickets and shirts) - demonstrate Georgetown was and is the community unlike no other DC based school 6. Lastly, have fun. A lot of us have been waiting a long while for the reemergence of Hoya Ball!

Just like the QB market in the NFL, the guy who just signs his deal looks overpaid and a guy like Mahomes seems suddenly underpaid.
The market gets reset every year. In 2-3 years this deal becomes the market and I’m sure many other coaches go over this benchmark now either with extensions at their own school or moving to a bigger job.

Excited about the future. Of course there is no guarantee Coach Cooley will be hugely successful, but there is great hope.
Been a Hoya fan for almost 45 years, and on this board since the start. The last 2 years have been brutal both here and on the court. I have rarely posted because there has been little to say. I have always watched every game for 40 minutes; this year I would watch until we were 10 points behind, then fast forward the broadcast 15 minutes at a time to see if we made it close (we never did). Now I can't wait for November to come once again!

I don't think anyone has confirmed the $6MM number. I saw $5.2MM in other places. Also the unknown in the negotiations is how much is earmarked for assistant coaches? How much is set aside for private jets for recruiting trips? How much is part of a NIL collective? The reported salary is only one part of the compensation that gets the attention, but for all we know Pitino and staff could be demanding more per year in overall costs (especially if he wants to open MSG up more than they play there now)

2. Who influenced Georgetown's Administration to pay this much for Ed Cooley? The market - given we ran back a 0-20 and went 2-19 and put ourselves into a giant hole of talent and a giant drop in engagement/ticket sales and APR. If you're in really bad shape as a program, you need to pay a premium to get a top coach.

I had watched or listened to every Georgetown men's basketball game since the 1987 exhibition when David Edwards when went off for double-digit assists until this year when I just couldn't follow the program anymore. I completely checked out sometime after New Year's Day.
Ewing was truly in over his head. Either he couldn't get those players to do what he wanted to do or what he wanted them to do was a really bad idea. I have never disliked Hoya players always finding a redeeming quality until this year when I couldn't stand some for their selfish, boneheaded, and lazy play. For everything Ewing did for the Georgetown program, he absolutely and unequivocally ran it into the ground.
There is one word I would use to describe the Cooley hire - competent. It is not an unexpected reaction to the last two years. Ewing never demonstrated competence in so many aspects of the job. Cooley is the exact opposite. He has demonstrated he is capable in every dimension of running a big-time program.
Hopefully, the thesis that the Georgetown platform provides Cooley the resources to have even greater success proves true. He has certainly paid his dues and is ready for perhaps the biggest spotlight in the conference.

This has probably been posted earlier. I thought Aiden nailed it: hilltophoops.substack.com/p/georgetown-and-ed-cooley-both-take?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=emaiWhen I heard the Cooley to Georgetown rumblings a few months ago, I dismissed them because I did not think the Admin. would do it and I didn't think Cooley would do it. But they did and it was thankfully quick. With all the karmic baggage that JDG, Lee Reed and Ed Cooley are carrying, this sure better work- and not to the tune of 1 Sweet Sixteen every 12 years.
