Excited about the future with Coach Cooley! Cooley has the same number of Big East Tournament Titles as Ewing, although Cooley has more seasons. Yay! I'm excited! Cooley also has 3 NCAA tournament wins in his career! And he's 9-10 in the Big East tournament. That's almost .500! Huge! We're now a national contender. Pitino would never be a good fit for a Catholic university.

Regardless how we do in his first year, I think this was an excellent hire. A little bit of a throwback to John Thompson, while having a softer style.
Love it!

We need to throw out John Thompson, not throw back to him. He got a building, a court and a statue. The tab is paid many times over. No Thompsonectomy means patient dies.

So you're saying the patient will die?

So you're saying the patient will die? Remains to be seen. If Ronnie and the affiliated hangers on/leeches are swiftly sent packing there is a chance.

This is a good day and a good hire.
Let's celebrate and be positive.
Feels good to have hope again. Better than being negative all the time.
Feeling good, well, feels good.
Cooley is an upbeat and positive guy. We got Rich still calling the games. He has seen the highs and lows, and the man is as upbeat and serene as ever.
Go Hoyas!

I actually had to work today, so I haven’t been able to join in the discussion and celebration.
I’ll say this — I am ecstatic about this hire. I think Ed Cooley is going to elevate our program in so many ways. I hope he will bring the same openness and freshness to the Hilltop that he brought to Providence. The media coverage of his departure from Providence was a sharp contrast to the coverage of his arrival at Georgetown. I hope he gets people talking about us again.
I fully believe that Cooley only accepted this job after being absolutely sure that Georgetown was committed to building a winning program. That means he gets the assistants he wants, the NIL infrastructure he wants, etc. Cooley has won everywhere he has gone. He came here to win, and win big. He didn’t come here to make the NCAAs. He has done that.
Now, the hard work begins. I can’t wait for the fall. For the first time in a while, I’m going to be looking at flight schedules this winter to make the long trip up to DC for a game (or three).

Does hearken back to JT with his closeness to his players!

For what it’s worth, I think the answer to this question is yes (though I recognize it’s tongue in cheek).

Yeah just simply the fact that he was unhappy with Provy's NIL and then met with Gtown and is fully on board could mean a lot in terms of raising his ceiling, especially if he can develop relationships leagues better than the previous regimes

Ready to be flamed on this...but wonder how many (if any) of the 2022-2023 Hoyas that entered the transfer portal may be reconsidering now that Cooley will be the head coach?

One of the more interesting aspects that have come out from the Providence side is that Cooley will have more quiet, space and privacy in DC than in Providence. This seems counterintuitive, Dc being a much bigger city, but with the Friars being the only game in town, Cooley couldn’t go anywhere without being recognized and stopped. He was a celebrity there. “We get it, Georgetown is a bigger brand that has greater tradition, deeper pockets, and more local talent. Six million dollars and a lot more privacy, with a program that most see as having a higher ceiling is obviously appealing” friarbasketball.substack.com/p/even-if-it-was-inevitable-the-ed

After how Patick Ewing burnt this program to the ground we gotta be winning games in the NCCAT before he should even before considered to come back Or some of all that losing games by 20, 30, 40 pts may rub off on Ed Cooley.
