The Providence fans have my sympathy—one of them spoke quite eloquently on the Hilltop Hoops Twitter space last night—but at the same time, PC is apparently turning around and hitting the reset button on GMU’s rebuild by grabbing Kim English. Basically how these things work. If Cooley crushes it for the next few years and gets snagged by Kentucky or Duke or UNC, I could imagine worse fates for the Hoya program overall.
One thing’s for sure, given the tenor of his departure from PC, Cooley has burned the ships. He HAS to succeed at GU on a significant scale, or let his legacy perish in the attempt. As a Hoya fan, I love it

He seems really happy. Must have been miserable at Providence this last year and needed a change In addition to drawing massive conclusions from single games, you also love to make sweeping statements about people and their frame of mind based on still photography. Yea you are quite the expert at that Double97

The "hiring a coach away from an in-conference team" does strike against a sense of conference unity, but... Providence tried to hire Pops away from Georgetown before hiring Pitino, and tried to hire Pitino away from Louisville when they were in the conference. If any school has any grounds to cry foul, it's not PC. I did not know that. It is really true that what goes around comes around. Thanks for sharing. Do you know why JTII said no to Providence, since he had ties as he played for the school? You'll have to ask Lou Lamoriello!

“But no one is entitled to the job of being head coach at Georgetown (or anywhere else).“ - Oh, I agree with you. “Entitled to the job” is what has Georgetown where we are. So who are “the people that matter the most”? Is he the longest serving president of any Roman Catholic university? The people that matter the most would be the Board of Directors, the various officers of the University whose position and understanding of its inner workings gives their opinion weight and influence, and the big donors and stakeholders (both formal like various Boards of Visitors and others) that provide it with resources of various kinds. Presumably you can Google "longest-serving University presidents" as well as I can. The Abbot Bernard Pennings led tiny St. Norbert College for 57 years. Norman Francis, the second recognized Black president of a Catholic university after Healy, led Xavier University of Louisiana for 47 years. Fr. J. Donald Monan, S.J., was chancellor of Boston College from 1996 to 2017 and president from 1972 to 1996 - 45 years total. Dennis J. Murray led Marist from 1979 to 2021 (it disaffiliated as a Catholic institution in 2003). Janet Eisner led Emmanuel College in Boston until last year, a 41-year tenure. And so on.

Seems like things are already opening up. I don't recall Ewing ever doing an interview with The Hoya, but I could be wrong:

Since we're derailing this thread, Fr. John Jenkins at ND is on his for fourth 5-year contract. Has been Prez since 2005 and ND more of a peer institiution with Georgetown than those mentioned, IMO. Now back to Cooley. I'll be watching the press conference, should be interesting.
