Totally agree on Pitino’s likely impact at SJU being exaggerated. With apologies to some on this board, 71 is VERY old for a coach…and Jamaica NY is a bloody pit. Don’t know how anyone could visit there and GU and choose the former…unless Christ himself was coaching. Pitino can go to Mars and recruit guys. I hope we don’t delude ourselves into thinking he’s not gonna get players at St. John’s. That man can sell water to a whale. He’s gonna get players Robby Carmody is in the transfer portal and he is from Mars. Mars, PA. Lol.

“We appreciate you coming in to talk with us, Coach. Now … do you have any questions for us?” ”Only two … how many golf courses are within a 10 mile radius of campus, and can someone finally tell me what this blasted acronym NIL stands for?”

I don't buy that he was making 4.5 @ PC(I'd bet good money Goodman's source is Cooley) he may have gotten there down the road in the contract Either way 3.5 million dollars is nothing to sneeze at, I'd be surprised if Gtown wasn't footing the bill for his relocation as well... I'll be interested to see if he goes with the dream job narrative tomorrow In 2020, Cooley's salary was around $3.4 million according to PC's IRS 990. With built in raises and other non-salary benefits, perhaps it approached $4.5 by 2023. Hilariously, the 990, pro forma, states that he works 40 hours a week! Ha ha. Any DI basketball coach working only 40 hours a week is looking to get fired! projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/display_990/50258932/05_2021_prefixes_04-06%2F050258932_202006_990_2021052018154290My guess is Goodman was comparing AAV of his Providence extension that was signed last fall vs. AAV of the Georgetown offer - which is actually an apples to apples comparison. You can throw out all those 2020 pro-forma reports because the 2022 renegotation came on the heels of a Sweet 16 and National Coach of the Year and unprecedented workforce salary inflation. If the difference is really only $500,000 I'm kind of amazed because I expected a much larger difference from the guy that signed the Ewing 3-year extension. Ed Cooley must have really wanted this job.

That makes no sense IMO given that the raise was pretty nominal and prob nothing when you factor in taxes, the pain of moving, etc. Nobody with half a brain would buy that. How about, “I grew up watching JTJr’s teams and this was always my dream job.” I don't buy that he was making 4.5 @ PC(I'd bet good money Goodman's source is Cooley) he may have gotten there down the road in the contract Either way 3.5 million dollars is nothing to sneeze at, I'd be surprised if Gtown wasn't footing the bill for his relocation as well... I'll be interested to see if he goes with the dream job narrative tomorrowI bet he says it 2 to 3 times today.

Should have gone after Pitino or Hurley. I think for Pitino it was Georgetown or St. John's Why settle for Providence, when you have better options available compared to a been there done that scenario?

I expect he'll also say something about getting away from the spotlight in Providence, wanting to go to the grocery store or a restaurant without being bothered, and wanting to be near his daughter. I also assume Georgetown has provided his daughter a smooth path to a graduate degree to stay in DC. I don't think he'll say Georgetown is a better job or he reached a ceiling at Providence. That would totally contradict years of his statements and I would think he'd be smart enough not to want to do that.

Yup, JT2 got his man from beyond the grave... Great work!
Every single one of you complainers would have left Providence for GU... So just stop it...

But can anyone say why Kim English to provy? I feel like there are other mid major coaches that have proven more and have more New England presence. I would’ve tried the coach from Vermont or even Colgate. English needed more time to show (and build his name nationally by having a great season or two) imo and the fact that he’s from the DMV, went to school in mizzou, and played for the pistons, so not exactly a direct connection in that way.

The best thing that could happen next would be Kim English, who is very media savvy, throwing some gasoline on the fire. Use his intro press conference to come out swinging toward Georgetown and Cooley. It will be red meat for the seething PC fans and will help him to immediately ingratiate himself. Plus, it will anger the Hoya fans and make this new "rivalry" bidirectional. Right now the PC fans are enraged and the reaction from Hoya fans is mostly just "Lol, sux 2 be u." The game at PC next year is going to be the Friar's Super Bowl, but for us it will mostly just be another conference game. But if English fans the flames and takes shots at Cooley and Georgetown it will make that game more meaningful for both sides, and that's good for ratings and publicity for both schools and the conference. Controversy creates cash. If he's too obnoxious about it, it will feel forced, but if he says things like "Ed Cooley brought this program back to mediocrity, I'm here to help us take the next step" or
or "Some programs in this league have shown that they can't conduct themselves with honesty and integrity, but that's not what we're about"
and if asked about Georgetown says "Can't wait to see them on the court, we intend to beat the brakes off them"
it will get SO much media buzz for a story that has already received a ton. We will jump ahead of UNC/Duke and any other rivalry as the most anticipated game on the schedule going into next season. Great for both schools. Also while I'm in this thread (since I think this is the de facto Coaching Carousel thread this year), Mason should pursue Tony Skinn, American should hire Mike Jones, and Creighton should choose between Dusty May and Devries if/when McDermott bolts for Notre Dame.
