When you have a solid season and decide to transfer, there’s always a risk of disappointment.

The clear takeaway is Twerpdom is bad for Hoyas ... for the love of God, if you have to transfer don't go College Park.

Carey's decision to transfer was clearly precipitated by the Nickelberry recruits arriving and what may (or may not) have been communicated to Cary about his potential playing time. Carey was initially looking to turn pro....but when that decision moved on....he was caught in a tough spot. Much like Dante. Other guys were clearly going to get the minutes. And there would not likely be a fair competition.
But feel totally bad for him. A great guy. Hoya captain. Ewing's flotsam and jetsam.

While Durant says "no shade" that is in fact exactly what he's throwing. Good luck to Mac. The dunk contest used to be a showcase event. It’s now a zombie thrill. It’s this thing the NBA keeps reviving out of tradition or obligation or assumption that, because dunks are still among the most celebrated of all sports highlights, people remain interested in watching high-jumping men test the limits of athletic creativity. Here is the field for Saturday night: Kenyon Martin Jr., Trey Murphy III, Jericho Sims and Mac McClung. McClung, who played two seasons at Georgetown before transferring to Texas Tech, was representing the Delaware Blue Coats — the Philadelphia 76ers’ G League affiliate — when he received the invitation. “No shade, but what are we doing?” Kevin Durant wondered in response to the news. “And Mac is an outstanding athlete, but what are we doing?” www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/02/18/dunk-contest-stars/

If NBA All Star weekend were played out in my backyard, I would not look out the window.

If NBA All Star weekend were played out in my backyard, I would not look out the window. I was invited to the NBA All Star game by a friend who got the weekend for two for free a few years back when the game was in New Orleans. Offer I couldn’t refuse (the New Orleans part of course) -- but the day of/on the way to the game ducked into a bar to watch Hoyas vs St. John’s for a bit. Even though we got crushed we never did make it to the All Star game (there may have been some alcohol consumption involved), and we never felt any sense of loss (other than the Hoya’s one) for missing it. Would be a tougher call today — rather a lose-lose — as to whether to duck into the bar to catch Hoyas’ game or Keep Walking (speaking of alcohol).

As time goes on I’m much less unhappy with Macs decision to transfer and actually get some good coaching. I’m pulling for him.

Don Carey wide open three pt air ball vs Nebraska. Then gets blown by a high school point guard
Still a mystery how his 3pt shooting could’ve crumbled so badly.

Can’t help but have a serious coulda woulda shoulda feel about that kid. We’ll never know the details but one of the biggest problems w Coach Pat is the gaps that DH and others fell through. Coaches get big bucks to keep that from happening.

Coaches get big bucks to keep that from happening. This is important to note from Dante Harris: He maintained a strong relationship with Ewing, who he still keeps in touch with and affectionately refers to as “Coach Pat.” “Coach Ewing was really, really positive for him and he was there for him,” Staples said. “He never said anything negative about him and never turned his back on him. It was kind of an odd breakup because both sides didn’t have anything bad to say about one another.

This is smart not to burn bridges, but actions speak louder than words.
