Persuading >>> teaching, and I am not sure that these two could have been persuaded to share the ball...

Ted Williams was one of the greatest hitters ever. He was a flop as a manager. He coached the Senators and the Rangers. How would he have fared coaching the Big Red Machine? Asking this when reviewing Joe Torre's managerial record prior to 1996. Mets: 286-420 Cardinals: 251-354 The difference is that a college basketball coach is a CEO--a GM and a coach. To paraphrase Bill Parcells, 'if you are cooking the dinner, you ought to be able to pick the groceries.' Pat has brought in new ingredients for his gumbo every year, and it keeps getting worse. He is directly responsible for the product on the court in every possible way.

I was referring specifically to Ted Williams and not Georgetown. Even Williams couldn't make anything out of the Bob Short gumbo.

Persuading >>> teaching, and I am not sure that these two could have been persuaded to share the ball... They didn't share the ball and they didn't like each other, and it was a problem our Coach could not fix. As most of us here believe, the buck always stops with the Coach regarding credit and blame.

There is literally nothing the coach has done well, nothing! I love Pat the player.

It was said Ted Williams could never wrap his mind around why all players couldn’t do the things he did on the field

Of the six franchises without one, Senators/Rangers the franchise that has gone longest time without a World Series title (since 1961). A lot of managers haven’t been able to make that “gumbo” succeed. But overarching point I think is valid/remains and I think we all agree: talent as a player not really a skill set that means much as a coach/manger — and true across all sports. Lenny Wilkins, Lou Boudreau and Gil Hodges among the very few exceptions that help underscore the norm…

That was part of the problem- we had guys who would end up playing for the Delaware Blue Coats and WESTCHESTER Knicks believing that they would be playing in the NBA Finals. Not to defend the Captain and CoS of this dumpster fire, but I Imagine that’s the case for the majority of high major (and mid major?) players. Get used to players coming in and thinking of they’re headed to the league or be prepared to recruit a different kind of player.

I realize I walked right into this one so I’ll go ahead and say it myself. … don’t need to worry about recruiting different kinds of players because we’ve had low major talent for a while.

Yeah it is a challenge for coaches now to temper expectations and such, but people keep saying stuff about the players as if there aren't 100+ programs handling this stuff better than our coach does. You are right tho, some players are very obviously full of themselves and it does not help that basketball is a very egotistical sport

"Ultimately, Ewing promised the world to each of his recruits and failed to uphold his end of the bargain, leading to their transfers. When Harris actually transfers out, he will join Ewing-era (2017-2022) transfers Donald Carey, Collin Holloway, Tyler Beard, Timothy Ighoefe, Jalin Billingsley, Kobe Clark, Jamari Sibley, T.J. Berger, Mac McClung, James Akinjo, Josh LeBlanc, Galen Alexander, Myron Gardner, Grayson Carter, Antwan Walker, Chris Sodom, and Qudus Wahab (returned)." vcphoops.com/2022/12/06/transfer-georgetown-hoyas-junior-guard-dante-harris-enters-transfer-portal/?feed_id=121652

I am sure that the author of that "article" is a valid source for what was supposedly promised to Dante Harris and others.

Not to mention some of those players like Sodom had trouble with the law and got kicked out so Ewing promising the world even if the author did know that wouldn't have been the reason for them transferring.

I am sure that the author of that "article" is a valid source for what was supposedly promised to Dante Harris and others. We do know that Mac was told he'd be the PG when he was recruited, in fact during a press conference in his 1st year PE was asked about PG play and his response was "I'm not allowed to talk about recruits until they sign".. The reporter had to clarify that he wasn't referring to Mac.

But we really do not know the relationships these players have with the coaches, including what was promised, or suggested, to them as recruits.

At least he gets to finish his career on a team with a chance and a coach with a clue.

I'm sure there's a USC Upstate fan posting about Mozone's shooting problems too
