Not often I agree with Carville: “The problem the Republican Party has is, they got really stupid people that vote in their primaries. And … really stupid people demand to have really stupid leaders. That’s where the Republican Party is now,” he said. Carville’s no-holds-barred view emphasized potential losses for GOP Senate candidates like Blake Masters in Arizona, J.D. Vance in Ohio and, particularly, Herschel Walker in Georgia. “Come on, man,” Carville said of Walker. “That guy had a ill-fitting helmet. He’s not right. He’s not right at all.” On the other side: “We [Democrats] tend to get defined by some over-educated, totally doofus coastal elites that are out trying to write dictionaries or something unrelated to anybody’s life. And that kind of stuff has a tendency to be very sticky, to stick with people,” he said. He added, of the left: “These people have the ability to irritate. They have the ability to come up with really stupid things, like ‘defund the police’ — three worst words ever in the English language, maybe. And you know, ‘Let’s get rid of Abraham Lincoln.’ That takes a really smart person to come up with that.” thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3605025-james-carville-trump-scandal-could-be-biggest-story-since-9-11/

Carville's an aging hack, wed to the neoliberal wing of the party
That he uses right wing talking points to disrespect progressives by caricaturing the words of a few on the fringe can't hide the neoliberals role as the true betrayers of the working class. I'm an Appalachian guy with a GU education, so, I know both sides of the regional/class divide. Carville isn't a populist just because he drawls.

Might be wishful thinking on Rubin's part. Do you think that a Democratic data firm is going to publicize a negative finding? In a batch of swing-district races I’ve looked at in recent days (contests in Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, Virginia and Washington), the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade appears to have changed voters’ priorities and put Republicans who support abortion bans on the defensive. The June ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization might have a profound effect in many states with hotly contested races, according to findings by TargetSmart, a Democratic political data and data services firm. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/18/dobbs-abortion-access-voter-registration-midterms/

Clown. Mehmet Oz is one of those candidates where you can’t figure out why he’s running. Why does he want this? He’s wealthy. He was famous. He had already reached the end of one of the many paths that leads to the American Dream, parlaying low-key charisma and his medical degree into a comfortable and lucrative career. So why is he seeking to be elected to the Senate from Pennsylvania? Why does he want to be one of 100 senators in a divided chamber? www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/19/oz-pennsylvania-republicans-fetterman/

Then if he were to win, he would have 99 like minded co-workers…. Ask Oz if he ever chased an unarmed African American jogger and held a shotgun on him… Then ask the other guy. Living in Pennsylvania, the choices here are disgusting.

You mean the one married to a Latina? Don’t make him sound like a deplorable racist because you don’t like your Rep candidate.

Oh I didn’t know his marriage to a Latina woman was a hall pass for pulling a shotgun on an unarmed jogger.
My bad.

Before, you said “an unarmed African American jogger”. Were you implying that he is a deplorable racist? No need to answer. If you just said “unarmed jogger” to begin with, there wouldn’t have been a racial connotation.

No matter whose version of events you believe I guess it doesn't matter that the guy Fetterman stopped has given a "hall pass" to Fetterman for Senate?? Or does Elvado's opinion carry more weight!? Lamb, D-17th District, and Kenyatta, D-Philadelphia, criticized Fetterman for skipping a debate earlier this month to avoid questions about his record and a 2013 confrontation with Christopher Miyares, a Black man Fetterman held at gunpoint after suspecting he was involved in nearby gunfire. Miyares, who is incarcerated for an unrelated crime, previously wrote a letter to the Philadelphia Inquirer saying: “It is inhumane to believe one mistake should define a man’s life. I hope he gets to be a senator.” www.penncapital-star.com/election-2022/pa-democrats-vying-for-u-s-senate-highlight-policy-divides-in-televised-debate/

The selective outrage here about something perceived as racist is odd. If racism were a disqualifying factor for a candidate for Elvado, he wouldn’t be able to vote for most Republicans ever again.

Fetterman isn't exactly Daniel Webster but he's taking advantage of a particular vortex facing the Republicans.
Because the base is whipped up to such an extent that they think of the Cheney family as a bunch of lefties (think about that one for a moment), capable Republican candidates in many states are simply not entering races for the sheer fact that it's not worth the effort. Pennsylvania, with a Republican senatorial pedigree of the likes of Hugh Scott, Richard Schewiker, John Heinz, Arlen Specter, et al. is left with fronting a celebrity doctor from NJ to run in the seat. It won't serve the GOP well for Fetterman's first question in the debate to be, "So, Dr. Oz, what exactly have you done for Pennsylvania?"
Georgia, with Republicans up and down the ballot, has left a key Senatorial race to a candidate who hasn't lived regularly in the state in 40 years and thus leaves the Democrats facing an untested candidate versus a more seasoned opponent.

Fetterman owned up to having been wrong, including owning up to having some implicit bias. He promised, as mayor, to do better. He did better., including reducing Braddock's murder rate to zero and working on pardon reform and second chances as Lieutenant Governor. I suppose a man who never did anything wrong would be better, in a way, but I'll take a guy who learned from a mistake.

The I "vote my wallet" crowd. . . And lastly, recognize that Republican “populism” is a facade. Whether it is multimillionaire Oz or Yale Law School graduate and millionaire J.D. Vance in Ohio or one of the Ivy League-educated Republican senators, the notion that the GOP MAGA panderers represent the average American is farcical. (Their policies, including taxing the poor, protecting corporations from paying at least something in taxes, repealing the Affordable Care Act and sunsetting Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid surely are not “populist” in any sense of the word.) www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/21/distinguished-pol-john-fetterman/

In the list of reasons why Sen. Herschel Walker is a disaster, not living in Georgia for 40 years is very low on the list.
