Republicans’ 7 self-inflicted wounds that may come back to haunt them Cook Political Report has moved a slew of House races in Democrats’ direction, while David Wasserman tells us: “House Overview: GOP Control No Longer a Foregone Conclusion.” Talk of the “red wave” has virtually evaporated. Democrats have notched surprising wins in House special elections in New York’s 19th District and Alaska. The latter sends the first Alaska Native, Mary Peltola, to Congress, albeit for only a matter of weeks; she’ll run again in the midterms. Republicans have lost their lead in generic polling. FiveThirtyEight’s average shows Democrats leading by about 1 point. 1. Republicans reflexively rejected popular items. 2. Republicans did not take women seriously. 3. Republicans made themselves into villains. 4. Republicans made the election into a Trump referendum of sorts. 5. Republicans nominated a fleet of election deniers. 6. Ideas that Republicans advance are extreme and unpopular. 7. Republicans have aligned themselves with special interests. Even with all this, Republicans might manage to flip the House. However, the mere fact that this is in question, given where they stood six months ago, points to the GOP’s ineptitude. Most of all, Republicans’ refusal to part company with the pro-insurrectionist, deranged former president may once more drag them under. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/09/01/republican-midterm-self-inflicted-wounds/

All three were among an influx of women signing up to vote in at least several states after the Supreme Court’s June decision to strike down the landmark ruling that made abortion a constitutional right — part of a broader post-Roe shift in the midterm landscape that has turned what many once anticipated would be a Republican wave into a more competitive fight nine weeks before Election Day. The increase in Pennsylvania benefited Democrats, registration data show, and party strategists hope to make similar inroads across the country with voters newly motivated to cast ballots against GOP candidates. While other factors such as slowing inflation have eroded the Republican advantage, according to strategists in both parties, no issue has upended the battle for Congress and statehouses as abruptly as abortion. An enthusiasm gap between Democratic and Republican voters has narrowed since the Supreme Court’s ruling, polling shows, while women voters who drifted away from Democratic Party after the 2020 election are shifting back. Democrats have overperformed in special elections and voters showed up in droves to reject an ballot measure in ruby red Kansas aimed at restricting abortion. Republicans are still benefiting from economic woes and low approval ratings for President Biden. They remain favored to retake the House, and further inflation could strengthen their hand. But from Florida to Michigan, Wisconsin to Arizona, abortion has quickly become a larger focal point of voters and candidates, leading some in the GOP to brace for a much closer fight this fall than expected. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/09/05/abortion-roe-midterms/

Why should this matter at all? Hypocrisy is in the DNA of the MAGA GOP so the knuckle dragger cultists in Georgia will still turn out to vote for a CTE-afflicted MAG GOP candidate. The Daily Beast reported that a woman, whom it did not identify, said Walker reimbursed her for an abortion after they conceived in 2009. In the article, published on Monday evening, the Daily Beast posted as corroboration of the woman’s account images of a receipt from the clinic, a sympathy card from Walker and a check that Walker had written. POLITICO has not independently verified the Daily Beast’s reporting. The Senate candidate characterized the article as “slander,” “defamatory” and “disgusting, gutter politics,” and called the article’s author “a democrat activist disguised as a reporter.” Walker said on Twitter that he planned to sue the publication on Tuesday morning. Asked by Hannity to address the check specifically, Walker said: “I send money to a lot of people, and that’s what’s so funny. ... God has blessed me, I want to bless others. I got into this race because I’m a Christian.” www.politico.com/news/2022/10/03/herschel-walker-daily-beast-abortion-00060160But his son is not voting for him, I guess . . . Herschel Walker’s son Christian Walker blasted his dad’s bid for a Georgia Senate seat by calling him a bad father, a liar and a hypocrite just hours after a news report Monday said the GOP nominee got a woman pregnant and paid for her abortion more than a decade ago. “I don’t care about someone who has a bad past and takes accountability. But how DARE YOU LIE and act as though you’re some ‘moral, Christian, upright man.’ You’ve lived a life of DESTROYING other peoples lives. How dare you,” Christian Walker wrote in a series of tweets. “Every family member of Herschel Walker asked him not to run for office, because we all knew (some of) his past. Every single one. He decided to give us the middle finger and air out all of his dirty laundry in public, while simultaneously lying about it,” he added. The outburst came shortly after The Daily Beast, citing a woman who asked not to be identified because of privacy concerns, published a story saying Walker had urged a woman to have an abortion in 2009 after he got her pregnant. The news outlet said it corroborated the details with a friend who said she accompanied the woman to the procedure. It also published what the woman said was a “get well” card signed by Walker and said she had provided both the receipt from the abortion clinic and a bank deposit showing an image of Walker’s check reimbursing her for the cost of the procedure. www.nbcnews.com/politics/2022-election/herschel-walkers-son-lashes-dad-news-report-senate-gop-nominee-paid-ab-rcna50585

The fact that an infirm Herschel Walker is still competitive with Rev. Warnock in Georgia tells you all you need to know about the moral depths to which the MAGA GOP has sunk. Is there no bottom for the cult?

HA HA HA HA HA! 😁😁😁
(CNN) Herschel Walker's Senate campaign cut ties with its political director on Wednesday, CNN has learned, the move coming just days after The Daily Beast reported that the Georgia Republican paid for a woman's abortion more than a decade ago.
The departure of Taylor Crowe, who previously held the same role on ex-GOP Sen. David Perdue's failed bid for Georgia governor this year, comes just weeks before Election Day in the crucial Senate contest against Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock. With an evenly split Senate, Republicans are hoping to flip the Georgia seat as they look to take control of the chamber.
Two people familiar with the matter said Crowe was fired after suspected leaking to members of the media. It is unclear if there were any other factors at play.

Let's just get it out of the way now: the election was stolen! The "do nothing Dems," once again pulled off a complex and well-coordinated "fraud."

And now Walker accused of seeking abortion #2. Walker is the perfect MAGA GOP candidate: Ignorant, hypocritical, and dishonest. The mother of one of Herschel Walker’s children has said that the Georgia Republican Senate candidate ended a relationship with her in 2011 after she refused to have a second abortion as she had done two years earlier, according to an account in the New York Times. Instead, the woman gave birth to the child, according to the report. The Washington Post has not independently confirmed the account, which builds on a story published earlier this week by the Daily Beast reporting that Walker, who is campaigning on an antiabortion platform, paid for the woman to have an abortion. Walker denied paying for an abortion and said he did not know what woman was making the allegation. The revelations threaten to further complicate one of the most competitive Senate campaigns in the country and confirm fears among some Republicans that Walker’s chaotic personal history, including allegations of domestic violence, will continue to attract attention and scrutiny in the final weeks of the campaign. Also on Friday, Walker’s campaign fired a political director over accusations that he had unauthorized contacts with reporters, according to a person familiar with the events, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal campaign matters. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/10/07/walker-abortion-georgia-senate/

Because after all, the only thing that matters is taking control of the Senate.
