The I "vote my wallet" crowd. . . And lastly, recognize that Republican “populism” is a facade. Whether it is multimillionaire Oz or Yale Law School graduate and millionaire J.D. Vance in Ohio or one of the Ivy League-educated Republican senators, the notion that the GOP MAGA panderers represent the average American is farcical. (Their policies, including taxing the poor, protecting corporations from paying at least something in taxes, repealing the Affordable Care Act and sunsetting Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid surely are not “populist” in any sense of the word.) www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/21/distinguished-pol-john-fetterman/Very true, and add to that group the incumbent Senators known as the Traitor Brothers, i.e., Cruz and Hawley. Good name for a Republican band, no? You've got the Doobie Brothers, the Allman Brothers, and the Traitor Brothers.

You do realize that the implied disdain of racism rings exceedingly hollow at this point, no? The guy you voted for, essentially, ran on it as the majority of his platform. It really was a basic point. One of the two Senate candidates in PA held a shotgun on an unarmed African American jogger and the other is Oz. Like it; don’t like it. Just don’t try to deny it. It wasn't a "basic" point. You're all of a sudden "concerned" about racism while supporting the most racist "party" we've seen in over a century? You've been exceedingly quiet about your "party" making it their mission to disenfranchise minority communities. Obviously, I can only take your word for it but please realize it comes off as incredibly disingenuous.

Stefanik, another MAGA GOP POS, backing a racist loser. Ha ha ha.
On Tuesday, Carl Paladino, a Buffalo-area business executive who has a history of making inflammatory and racist comments, lost to Nick Langworthy, the chairman of the state Republican Party, in the GOP primary in New York’s 23rd Congressional District.
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), who holds the No. 3 leadership position among House Republicans, was among Paladino’s high-profile supporters, tweeting on Tuesday that he is a “conservative outsider who will be a tireless fighter for the people of New York.”
On Wednesday, fellow Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger (Ill.) was going to great lengths to remind Stefanik that her candidate lost.
“Carl lost this race that @elisestefanik got all in on,” Kinzinger wrote on Twitter, urging retweets “to congratulate @elisestefanik on losing another race!”

As we have noted, since the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision stripped women of the fundamental right to control their own health-care decisions, more women than men, and more Democrats than Republicans, have registered to vote in many states. That trend is continuing as other evidence mounts of a Dobbs backlash in November. Whether it is abortion, Democrats’ overall legislative success or reminders of the MAGA anti-law enforcement, pro-insurrection bent, Democrats have helped close the enthusiasm gap. The most recent NBC News poll finds: “According to the survey, 68% of Republicans express a high level of interest in the upcoming election — registering either a ‘9′ or ’10’ on a 10-point scale — versus 66% for Democrats.” That is within the poll’s margin of error. Moreover, “That 2-point GOP advantage is down from 17 points in March and 8 points in May.” www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/23/dobbs-polling-midterms/

So, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) thinks poor “candidate quality” may keep the GOP from winning back a Senate majority in November. Conservative writer Matt Lewis put a finer point on it in the Daily Beast on Tuesday: “Trump’s Legacy is Convincing Idiots That They Should Run for Office,” was the headline atop his column on the weak Republican nominees backed by the former president. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/23/herschel-walker-anti-tree-gaffes/

Another "echo chamber" that Admin can lock up? (Or maybe Admin will impose a ten post limit!). “I honestly can’t believe it,” Pat Ryan told a crowd after his unexpected victory in a closely watched special election for a House seat in New York’s Hudson Valley. “I cannot believe it.” And it’s true: Ryan’s razor-thin victory surprised his own advisers, because they did not expect quite the turnout he ended up generating. It helped enable him to eke out a win in a true swing district that went for President Biden by only 1.5 points in 2020 and was expected to swing to Republicans in keeping with historical midterm patterns. That turnout, it appears, was driven in part by the Supreme Court decision overturning Roe v. Wade. After that ruling, Democrats looked to this race to gauge whether campaigning hard on abortion rights could shift the political environment and blunt GOP advantages. In this district, it did. Ryan ran ads highlighting his military service and linking it to the fight to defend our freedoms, stating unambiguously that those freedoms include “a woman’s right to choose” and that he’ll defend it in Congress. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/24/pat-ryan-new-york-special-election-2022-democrats/

We at FiveThirtyEight often track the results of special elections (i.e., elections that occur at unusual times because an office unexpectedly becomes vacant) because of the hints they provide to the national mood. When a party consistently does well in special elections — defined not by winning or losing, but by outperforming a state or district’s baseline partisanship — it’s often a sign that the national political environment favors that party, and is therefore a good omen for that party in the upcoming regular general election. Up until mid-June, special elections for the U.S. House during the Biden presidency were pointing to a national political environment that was neutral or a little bit Republican-leaning. On average, Republicans did 2 points better in those elections than you’d expect based on the districts’ FiveThirtyEight partisan leans.2 That all changed, though, starting in late June — immediately after the Supreme Court issued its decision in Dobbs v. Jackson, overturning the constitutional right to abortion. There have been four first-past-the-post special House elections since that decision, and Democrats have outperformed their expected margins in those elections by an average of 9 points. fivethirtyeight.com/features/yes-special-elections-really-are-signaling-a-better-than-expected-midterm-for-democrats/

Authentic v. faux populist. Are Ohio voters intelligent enough to see through Vance's charade? To review: Ryan is a blue-collar, native Ohioan running on kitchen-table issues and promising to return manufacturing to his state. Vance is a millionaire Yale Law School-educated author and venture capitalist. It turns out he’s also a rotten candidate. Republicans are in high panic over Vance’s terrible fundraising, as well as his gaffes on abortion and domestic abuse. Ryan seems like the only Democrat who might win the state; Vance might be the only Republican capable of losing it. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/25/tim-ryan-ohio-senate-poll-numbers/

What a moron. He didn't realize that women are "people?" At a hearing, state Rep. Neal Collins (R) recounted the arduous journey faced by a 19-year-old thanks to an abortion ban he himself supported. Collins said the woman’s fetus was not viable, but that attorneys told her doctor they couldn’t extract it because it still had a heartbeat — the standard set in the bill supported by Collins that had gone into effect just the week before. “They discharged that 19-year-old,” Collins said. “The doctor told me at that point there is a 50 percent chance — well, first she’s going to pass this fetus in the toilet. She’s going to have to deal with that on her own. There’s a 50 percent chance — greater than 50 percent chance that she’s going to lose her uterus. There’s a 10 percent chance that she will develop sepsis and herself, die.” Collins added: “That weighs on me. I voted for that bill. These are affecting people.” www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/08/25/republicans-abortion-politics/

Did the self-proclaimed "pro-life" party/cult catch the car? Be careful what you wish for, hypocrites. Two months ago, the Supreme Court gave Republicans a once-in-a-generation victory in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, ending the constitutional right to abortion. Pro-life Republicans rejoiced, and some red states immediately passed new restrictions on the procedure. The rejoicing might have been premature. Since Dobbs was handed down, nearly every political data point has shown a portion of voters shifting from Republicans and toward Democrats. This is a sea change from earlier in the year, when Republicans seemed to be building momentum for a red wave. When the draft opinion of Dobbs leaked in May, voters withheld judgment. They waited to see if the court would follow through on the reported draft; as they waited, Republicans maintained a two-to-three-point lead. But after the final Dobbs opinion was released on June 24, voters shifted. A wave of new Republican abortion restrictions followed, as did pro-choice counter-protests. By the end of July, the GOP’s lead evaporated. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/25/dobbs-changing-politics-abortion/

The Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC supporting Republican Senate candidates, has slashed its budget for airtime purchases in Arizona, signaling trouble for nominee Blake Masters’s bid to unseat Democratic incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly.
The super PAC, which is allied with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), said it canceled about $8 million worth of TV, radio and digital ads in the state, Isaac Arnsdorf reports.
The move comes a week after the super PAC announced an additional $28 million in Ohio to prop up Republican hopeful J.D. Vance.

Hey, Traitor McCarthy, GFY. And why no "defense" of mango Mussolini since the release of the redacted affidavit in support of the search warrant, you steaming POS?
(CNN) House Republicans are starting to grow pessimistic about their chances of winning a massive majority in the midterm elections, putting some allies of GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy on edge over his future.
While GOP lawmakers are still confident they will be able to recapture the House this fall -- thanks to a map and historical trends that are both in their favor -- there are new concerns inside the party that Democrats might be able to minimize the GOP's gains in November, according to interviews with nearly a dozen Republican lawmakers and aides.
And the size of the GOP's majority matters -- both for McCarthy's ability to secure the speaker's gavel and his ability to govern a Republican conference that has swung increasingly to the right while a crop of the party's moderates and dealmakers have headed for the exits.

It's looking more and more like some of the Trump cultists are starting to remember that they, at one point, had beliefs and values and, maybe, they're recalling that such things used to be important to them. I'm not optimistic but we shall see.
