"Derik Queen led Team Thrill to a Sportradar Showdown tournament win, also solidifying his standing as one of the best bigs in the 2024 high school class in the process. The Montverde prospect “made everything,” as one college coach put it, at the basket over the entire weekend. Queen is an ambidextrous finisher who makes up for his lack of burst with his soft touch and patience. Unlike Bidunga or Maluach, Queen isn’t really going to explode for a massive poster, but what he can do is face-up and pull-up or even push the ball in transition. He’s more of a drop big on the defensive end — Queen had 6-foot-10 Luke Bamgboye stepping out in space instead of having to do it himself most of the time — but he’s effective with his size, instincts, and quick hands. Proving that he can guard out to the perimeter will be key, though. Queen has offers from the likes of Maryland, Auburn, Indiana, Florida State, and Texas, who all evaluated him in-person." thesportingtribune.com/scouting-vj-edgecombe-derik-queen-khaman-maluach-nba"Derik Queen has staked his claim as the best big in the class with a dominant showing this summer, which has propelled him all the way to No. 20 overall in the Rivals150 and No. 2 among centers in the class. He duked it out at Friday’s scrimmage with the top dog Flory Bidunga and the two giants traded jabs on both ends of the floor. Both players were active early and often; Bidunga used his length to bother Queen’s shots and Queen used his footwork to maneuver into position on the low block. Both players finished plays efficiently, snagged 10-plus rebounds and displayed great patience as passers, making the top spot as the man in the middle even more of a head-scratcher." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/jordan-s-takeaways-under-armour-elite-24-in-atlanta"On3’s recruiting prediction model, which uses machine learning to predict recruiting outcomes, recently updated its projection for class of 2024 big man Derik Queen. Maryland is at 28 percent, with no other school registering more than a one percent chance. "MOST UNIQUE ROAD TO COLLEGE: Bryson Tucker There simply aren’t a lot of five-stars in recent history that don’t play AAU, but Bryson Tucker stands as a rare exception. It certainly hasn't hampered the 6-foot-7 forward much however, as he sits at No. 11 in the Rivals150 and carries a five-star ranking. The no-grassroots wrinkle is interesting, however. So is the fact that Tucker abruptly parted ways with IMG Academy, for whom he played a chunk of last season, in the midst of a junior campaign that saw him impress nearly every time he took the floor. Tucker sort of vanished from the scene for a bit following his transfer out of IMG, but he managed to impress at a few one-off camps before landing at Virginia’s Bishop O'Connell for his upcoming senior season. Michigan State has long been thought to be among the frontrunners to land Tucker, but schools such as Duke, Louisville and Villanova are also in the mix." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/superlatives-for-2024-recruiting-cycle

"Khani Rooths is the No. 22 player in the 2024 On3 150. The 6-foot-8 wing from Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy averaged 15.6 points this summer with his New World program on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit. “I’m running the court as hard as I can now, trying to beat the defense down the floor each possession,” Rooths told On3. “That is a big difference in my game. I can play defense one through five, and my catch-and-shoot is way better now than it was. My favorite player is LeBron James, and how he can do everything on the court. I watch a lot of him. I like watching Paul George and his game. He is smooth, but he is also aggressive at the same time.”... “I’ve taken official visits to Georgia and Mississippi State so far,” Rooths said... “I have official visits set with Virginia Tech, Georgia, and Michigan,” Rooths said. “I am talking to Maryland, Miami, and I think I’m going to visit Florida State too.” www.on3.com/news/khani-rooths-has-five-official-visits-on-his-mind-georgia-mississippi-state-michigan-maryland-miami-florida-state/"Four-star forward Khani Rooths was scheduled to take a second official visit to Georgia on Oct. 5 but will now be forced to move that date because of a conflict with USA Basketball mini-camp. The rest of his fall visit plans, however, will move forward as planned and include trips to Virginia Tech (Sept. 2), Michigan (Sept. 8) Maryland (Sept. 15), Florida State ( Sept. 22) and Miami (Sept. 28). But while every school receiving a fall official is alive in the race to land his pledge, it’s easy to deduce that the IMG Academy star’s official to in-state Maryland is among the most important dates on his fall itinerary. “It’s the home school,” Rooths said of the Terrapins on Saturday. “There’s pros and cons to that, but they’re building something new there. They have a lot of DMV guys ready to start a new tradition there and want me to be one of them. I’ve been there a lot, of course, but going back on the official is big for me. Now we’re really just talking about how they can look out for me and protect me if I decide to stay in the area and go there.” According to Rooths he intends to commit no sooner than the end of his final official visit, but has set no exact date for an announcement." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/cassidy-s-takeaways-will-barton-elite-camp-1"Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star small forward Khani Rooths is down to seven schools. Moving forward, the 6-foot-8, 195-pound senior will consider Georgia, Florida State, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, and Virginia Tech. The Washington D.C. native has officially visited three of his finalists – Mississippi State, Virginia Tech, and Georgia. He’s scheduled to visit Florida State on September 22nd and Miami on September 28th. Rooths was scheduled to visit Michigan this weekend but says that trip will be rescheduled. He also says he will no longer be going on his previously planned trip to Maryland on September 15th. Rooths says he doesn’t have a commitment date in mind yet, but is aiming for a November decision." www.on3.com/news/khani-rooths-down-to-7-schools-georgia-florida-state-maryland-miami-michigan-mississippi-state-virginia-tech/

"Commitment season has arrived, and 2024 prospects are beginning to fly off the board in advance of November's Early Signing Period. Rivals recruiting director Rob Cassidy keeps that in mind in this week’s installment of I've Got Five On It, as he examines the respective situations of five brand-name programs still in search of their first class-of-2024 commitment... THE SITUATION: Maryland may have an empty 2024 cupboard for now, but it doesn't feel as though it'll stay that way for long. Kevin Willard and his staff have to love where they stand with four-star forward Khani Rooths, for whom the Terrapins are among the late leaders. Rooths’ upcoming, Sept. 15 visit to campus feels like it could be a major turning point in his process and should be monitored closely. Then, there’s the Derik Queen situation. Maryland felt like the clear and obvious leader to land the in-state big man not long ago. And while things have tightened up on that front thanks to pushes from Indiana and Houston, College Park is still one of the most likely landing spots for the Montverde Academy senior. Four-star guard Jaeden Mustaf is also fresh off a visit to campus and plans to announce his college choice on Sept. 14." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/i-ve-got-five-on-it-big-name-programs-still-looking-for-first-2024-commit

"Recruiting can often come down to supply and demand. In the rising senior class of 2024, one of the most glaring deficiencies is the lack of high-major caliber point guard prospects. In other words, there isn’t nearly enough supply to match the total demand that we see in a typical year. Because of that, college coaches are doing two things. They’re working to make inroads with the few points guards that have already emerged and simultaneously looking for others who have the potential to follow-suit in the weeks, months, and maybe even years to come. One such player is Team Durant’s Del Jones. On Friday, he didn’t have his best performance. He scored 12 points on on 5-12 shooting from the floor, including 0-4 from behind the three-point line, while handing out 4 assists, turning the ball over 5 times, and grabbing 5 rebounds. Nevertheless, he was still a focal point for Team Durant as they knocked off Team CP3. While he didn’t have a great shooting night, his stroke is clearly projectable. He’s got a good natural feel for the game, presence at the position, and command of his team. Consequently, it was no surprise to hear that Tennessee became the latest school to offer on Friday, joining a long list that also includes Ole Miss and Arizona State among a host of others." 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/college-basketball-recruiting-eybl-patrick-ngongba-marcus-allen--210155018/“It felt great to get the offer,” Jones continued. “I have seen the play. Tennessee is a great school and Coach Barnes is a great coach. I like the program and how they play. In addition to the Volunteers, Jones says Arizona State, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Providence are the schools pursuing him aggressively. He discussed each program with 247Sports: Arizona State: “They recently offered me but I have been talking to them for two months. I was on the phone with of their assistant coaches and he told me that they love my game. They love how tough I am and feel I will fit into their system. They said they are going to start recruiting me hard.” Ole Miss: “They are showing me that I am a priority right now. Chris Beard pulled up to my school last week. The whole staff talked to me and let me know that I am a priority.” Oregon: “With Kwame Evans over there, I know that there will be family there. I played with him last year and I already know the guys. The Pac-12 conference is a different league but I like their program. They are recruiting me hard and I like what they are talking about.” Providence: “I like the way they play. That school brings home vibes with Kim English being from Maryland. I feel like I will fit in their style. Coach English is a cool dude. We talk every week and I like him.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/del-jones-arizona-state-tennessee-providence-ole-miss-210326155/"WHICH UNCOMMITTED PLAYER IN THE RANKINGS DO YOU FEEL MIGHT BE A LITTLE UNDER-RECRUITED?... Jordan: I’ll say Del Jones, who got a bump in the latest rankings reboot this week to No. 105 overall. I had this conversation last week with a few coaches about him and his potential after a stellar season on the Nike EYBL. He’s got great feel and pace as a point guard and is a sniper of a shooter from deep. I felt like he was one of the more consistent lead guards I watched all summer and as a result has good offers from USC, Xavier, Tennessee, Providence, etc. Still, I think he could command top billing on recruitment boards with what he’s done over the last four months." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/rivals-rankings-week-roundtable-on-the-2024-rankings-9

"DMV Live: Top rising seniors draw a crowd of coaches The college coaches were out in force to see some of the country's top rising seniors at DMV Live... Patrick Ngongba, PVI Ngongba has been one of the hottest names in the class this spring. After recovering from injury and sliming down, Ngongba is now considered one of the top bigs in the class and he backed that up over the weekend. Ngongba was able to switch onto smaller players defensively, use his body to carve out space in the paint, rebound, and use his soft touch around the rim which has all contributed to his big jump in the national rankings. When it comes to where his recruitment stands and who came out to see him, he garnered attention from multiple head coaches and staffs. Duke head coach Jon Scheyer and two assistants, Virginia’s head coach Tony Bennett, Kansas State head coach Jerome Tang and two assistants, Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery, UConn head coach Dan Hurley and an assistant, Kansas assistant Norm Roberts among others were in attendance for the prized big man."... Malcolm Thomas, Dematha Thomas has made big strides in his game this year. While Thomas is considered undersized for a PF/C at 6-foot-6 he makes up for it with his serious athleticism. Thomas is mobile, plays with a high motor, can defend multiple positions, rebound and block shots. While he doesn’t have a great offensive skillset just yet his activity on the glass and around the rim allows him to affect the game in a variety of ways. Virginia Tech, Xavier, Howard among others were in attendance for Thomas this weekend. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/dmv-live-patrick-ngongba-christian-bliss-malcolm-thomas-211790222/"Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha Catholic three-star power forward Malcolm Thomas is down to eight schools, he tells On3. Moving forward, the 6-foot-8, 195-pound rising senior will consider Cal, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Villanova, Virginia Tech, and Xavier. Thomas has scheduled his first two official visits. He will visit Xavier on July 28-30, followed by Florida State on September 2-3. He also plans to schedule an official visit to Villanova in the near future. According to the On3 150 player rankings, Thomas ranks as the No. 139 overall prospect in the 2024 class. He’s also the No. 30 power forward and the No. 4 player in the state of Maryland... Xavier: “Xavier has been recruiting me the hardest over the past several months. Even before officially offering me. I love the atmosphere of the school and the coaching staff. I have always wanted to play in the big East and I can see myself thriving at Xavier.”... Villanova: “Villanova is a place that has always been somewhat of a dream school for me to play. The environment is crazy, and the fan base is really strong. The coaches have made me feel a sense of “family” that I really had no idea about. I love the program and the system, and I really see myself becoming great at Villanova.” www.on3.com/news/malcolm-thomas-names-top-8-schools-cal-florida-state-miami-ole-miss-vanderbilt-villanova-virginia-tech-xavier/"Villanova has landed their second commitment in the class of 2024 with Malcolm Thomas. Thomas, a 6-foot-8 forward from Hyattsville (Md.) chooses the Wildcats over Florida State, Cal, Xavier, and Vanderbilt. “Honestly it’s the connections I made with the staff that made me choose Villanova,” Thomas said. “I see myself fitting in with coach Neptune’s schemes so well. I’ve developed a great relationship with some of the dudes already and I see it as a brotherhood.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/malcolm-thomas-villanova-kyle-neptune-217513176/

"The first two things that stand out about Jones’ are his speed and toughness. He’s a legitimate combo-guard, who is equally capable of playing on or off the ball. He has both pace and creativity when making plays for himself and others, but can be inefficient with his decision-making at times. He has clean shooting mechanics from behind the arc and good natural touch, and yet converted just 22% of his attempts in EYBL play, per Synergy Sports. This discrepancy was rooted, in large part, to his shot selection, as he ranked in a much more favorable 45th percentile on catch and shoot attempts. Jones is probably at his best when he embraces being a true point guard and picks his spots a bit more judiciously, while still showing that same willingness to be aggressive in big moments. Physically, he has decent positional size for a lead guard, and while he is very fast, he plays primarily under the rim." 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/college-basketball-recruiting-top-150-guard-del-jones-commits-to-clemson-218739832/

"Patrick Ngongba II, the No. 20 overall recruit in the 2024 class, has committed to the Duke Blue Devils, he tells 247Sports. The 6-foot-11, 235-pound big man out of Fairfax (Va.) Paul VI Catholic made his pick to go to Duke over his other two finalists including Kansas State and Kentucky. "When I was there on my visit I was liking the stuff that coach Scheyer was saying in how he would use me and I just feel like it is the best opportunity for me to get to the next level," he said of why the chose Duke. "I also felt like I connected well with the players when I was there."... "Just the way everyone treats each other from the players and the coaches," he said of what stood out about Duke during his time on campus. "The way they connect, it's a big family atmosphere."... How about those 3 undecideds? There’s still time and, given that we already have 4 2024s coming in and we don’t want to be too young next year, highly regarded transfer recruits from the DMV would be just as good.

At least be honest. This isn't politics. Khani Rooths went to IMG in Florida for his final 2 seasons. He showed zero interest in coming back to the DMV or playing in the Big East per his finalists. Donnie Freeman committed about a month after Cooley was hired. So if PC wasn't recruiting him he would have had no time to try and build a relationship. Jaeden Mustaf played for Overtime Elite in Atlanta. And committed to Georgia Tech. Maryland tried to come calling and was told he wanted to stay in the south. Patrick Ngonba signed with Duke. His final 3 were Duke, UK and K-State. LOL. Isiah Abraham was probably the one they had the best shot at. He had visited PC previously and was sniffing around Big East. He committed in July to Uconn. They had a slightly better pitch this summer. You want to sh*t on Cooley for the year 1 performance. Or the transfer portal from last offseason. Seems like fair game to me. But this stuff is garbage.

I am all for criticizing our coach as that is our right as fans and we no longer have an obnoxious group of posters whining about how unfair criticism was about the previous coach. But this is just nonsense even by Boya's standards about how Cooley can't just show up and pull top 50 DMV recruits when many were committed or looking outside the area after two historically bad seasons. And I don't think it is a big deal that we don't/won't have every top dmv recruit breaking down the door and the expectation to do so is just ridiculous. It is good to pull some and maintain connections especially since you can pull some older transfers who want to come home, but that is a 2 year process minimum and Cooley is probably well aware of that. But it is not the end of the world if we do not get a freshman every year who is from the dmv and we just need to get better in general at this point.

Thank you for sparing me the energy of having to respond to a troll like boya. Also, McKenna would've been top 100 in this class and Caleb Williams absolutely should be.

This is where our guy Kevin Nickleberry needs to come through: "With versatility and growth spurts, D.C. area’s junior class stands tall Recruiting website 247 Sports compiles composite rankings for the top 150 prospects in every class; there are eight local players on that list for the Class of 2024. In descending order: No. 28 Freeman (St. John’s) No. 48 Darren Harris (Paul VI) No. 56 Isaiah Abraham (Paul VI) No. 59 Robert Dockery (Jackson-Reed) No. 69 Drew McKenna (Glenelg Country) No. 81 Daquan Davis (St. John’s) No. 136 Caleb Williams (Sidwell Friends) No. 141 Patrick Ngongba (Paul VI) “These kids, a lot of them made a name for themself on the national level in seventh or eighth grade,” said Houston Wilson, a recruiting analyst and the recruiting and evaluation director for the popular CP3 Rising Stars National Camp. “People have been talking about this class for a while.” In addition to those eight, there are four players who started their careers in this area before leaving for far-flung, basketball-centric schools: No. 37 Khani Rooths (Georgetown Prep to IMG Academy in Florida), No. 76 Jaeden Mustaf (DeMatha to Carmel Christian School in North Carolina), No. 90 Del Jones (Bishop O’Connell to Huntington Prep in West Virginia) and No. 107 A.J. Swinton (DeMatha to Oak Hill in Virginia)." www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/12/06/with-versatility-growth-spurts-dc-areas-junior-class-stands-tall/Looks like Nickelberry back at it with Daquan Davis... "Today, Davis is heading down to Florida State for an official visit while others are getting more and more involved ... and in the case of Providence, the Friars are re-engaging. "I know Georgia Tech is showing genuine interest, I go to Florida State tomorrow, I know Indiana is in the process and Providence has reached back out," he updated on the latest in his recruitment." 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/four-star-senior-daquan-davis-previews-florida-state-visit-updates-recruitment-indiana-ole-miss-providence-227301674/"Indianapolis, Indiana – The Overtime Elite program joined with Adidas to bring the final regular season game of the OTE season to Broad Ripple High School in snowy Indianapolis. On3 was courtside for the two games, along with numerous NBA Scouts and a close-to-sold-out crowd. Here are the Top Performers for Day 2 of OTE Elite Indianapolis, the league’s final regular season games... 3. G Daquan Davis (2024) Daquan Davis brings mental toughness to the floor. From the opening tip to the final whistle, he competes. Davis is a gamer. He wants the ball, and he makes his shots in rhythm. He was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field tonight, and 2-for-2 from three. Davis is a good on-the-ball defender and plays each play with the utmost confidence. Davis finished this one with 22 points and 4 assists." www.on3.com/news/top-performers-day-2-ote-elite-indianapolis/

"I've Got Five On It: Prospects that will be watching the coaching carousel... KHANI ROOTHS Ranking: No. 33 in the 2024 Rivals150 What might change: The top-ranked prospect in Michigan’s 2024 class, Rooths chose Michigan over finalists Georgia and Florida State. And while Rooths has signed a letter of intent with the Wolverines, programs don’t tend to protest too much about cutting prospects loose in the event of a coaching change, which could very well be happening at Michigan this spring. Should Rooths find himself back on the market, the Seminoles, Bulldogs and others will be worth monitoring closely. Rooths, who is originally from the Washington D.C. area, plays his high school ball at Florida’s IMG Academy and was linked to Maryland and Virginia Tech in addition to his three finalists." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/i-ve-got-five-on-it-prospects-that-will-be-watching-the-coaching-carousel

“Juwan Howard is out as head coach of Michigan. With the news out, all eyes shift to top 35 forward Khani Rooths who is a member of the Wolverines’ top 20 recruiting class as he is yet to sign with the program. A 6-foot-8 forward from Washington (D.C.) and who plays for national powerhouse Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy has had a few early conversations with people around the program and will take his time before making a final decision… “I got a close relationship with the guys,” he said. “I texted Doug (McDaniel) because he’s my big cousin, I texted Tarris Reed and they all don’t know what’s going on. They are in the same boat as me.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/college-basketball-khani-rooths-juwan-howard--228712720/
