"Derik Queen is the king of Vegas The grassroots basketball world returned to Las Vegas this weekend where Derik Queen led Team Thrill to a big championship... Ultimately, Team Thrill captured their latest championship behind a dominant performance from five-star big man Derik Queen, who finished with 27 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 assists. As impressive as his dominance was, it is hardly a surprise at this point. In fact, you can make the case that Queen has been as consistently productive as any player in the class. He played a leading role for Montverde during the winter, was unmatched in UAA play this spring, and seized this crossover setting as an opportunity to show his production could translate to different circuits. His approach is well-documented at this point. He has elite hands and touch that allow him to catch everything, finish all types of short shots around the rim, face-up less mobile bigs to attack off the bounce, facilitate with his passing, and corral any rebound that comes off near his area. Most of all, he wins, and at this point, there isn’t a player in this rising senior class who has consistently impacted winning more." 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/college-basketball-recruiting-sportsradar-showdown-ultimate-club-212901070/

"Khani Rooths jumped to No. 17 in the recent 2024 On3 150 ranking update. The 6-foot-8 wing started this year at nationally ranked Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy and has been a standout all summer with the New World program on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit... “I’ve taken official visits to Mississippi State and Georgia so far,” Rooths said. Mississippi State: “The coaching staff stood out for me; I like Coach (Chris) Jans, and they have a great coaching staff. They know what they are doing, and they have a plan. Nothing down there really surprised me, they do a good job communicating with me during the recruitment. The campus was nice, and I liked the environment down there.” Georgia: “The coaching staff there is great too. But the town, it’s all about the Bulldogs everywhere. That really stuck out to me. The coaches did a good job showing me they have a game plan of how they see me and how I fit in with what they do. They play with a fast tempo, and they like to capitalize in transition. They have some plays that get their wings coming off stuff and the freedom to make plays, not only for myself but for my team too. I can see myself fitting in there.” “I have an official visit set up with Virginia Tech and Michigan,” Rooths said. Virginia Tech: “I’ll visit them on September 2. They have been recruiting me for a long time, and I’ve gotten to know their coaches and the coaching staff. They’re not far from home, and I want to learn as much as possible about them.” Michigan: “I’ll visit them on September 9. They always tell me about how I’m improving and how I need to keep improving. They like what I’m doing and how I’m playing. The coaches let their players rock, give them a lot of freedom, and I like that. It’s always good to have a coaching staff that produces pros. They had two drafted this year, and that is what I’m coming in for.” www.on3.com/news/khani-rooths-talks-michigan-georgia-mississippi-state-virginia-tech-updates-recruitment/"One of the most interesting players to evaluate in the class of 2024 is combo forward Khani Rooths. Coming off a bit of an up and down season at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG, his play while we watched him in Las Vegas with his New World summer squad was similar but he does look to be trending in the right direction. Possibly a little bigger than his listed 6-foot-7, Rooth is a combo forward who can play as a big wing or a small ball four. He’s long and lean but starting to fill out his frame a bit and when he’s engaged and playing with energy, he can be a serious mismatch problem because of his versatility. Rooths had several impressive drives to the rim, some really nice finds of teammates and had some stretches where he was really strong on the glass. The highs were high. But like a roller coaster, you come down from those highs quickly at times and that is still a little bit of the case with Rooths. Currently ranked No. 22 overall in 2024, the good news is that Rooths does look to be trending towards being more consistently productive and he recently set visits to Michigan and Virginia Tech (who both had their head coaches among the many watching) and should be cutting down his list soon." 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/longformarticle/college-basketball-recruiting-las-vegas-live-period-vj-edgecombe-johnny-furphy-khani-rooths-and-more-212904480/#2197512

"The top 10 prospects to make their debut in the latest 2024 basketball rankings... NO. 110: CADEN DIGGS, SF Caden Diggs has been a prospect I’ve been high on since last years DMV High school live period. Diggs is a versatile and long 6-foot-8 forward. They made me feel comfortable, I got to meet the guys and it was really exciting. He flashed all of those skills at Sportradar Showdown, but can still lack regularity across the board. Rooths also stood out as a leader. He was constantly encouraging his teammates and standing up on the bench to yell out instructions or defensive rotations. He’s more of a drop big on the defensive end — Queen had 6-foot-10 Luke Bamgboye stepping out in space instead of having to do it himself most of the time — but he’s effective with his size, instincts, and quick hands. "After picking up an offer from the Seminoles earlier in July, Swinton is already planning a trip to Tallahassee. On Thursday, he informed NoleGameday that he plans to officially visit Florida State beginning on September 1. Swinton announced his commitment to Virginia Tech in February before backing off of that pledge two months later. Since re-opening his recruitment, he has visited Georgetown and West Virginia. It's important to note that at that point, current FSU assistant coach Kevin Nickleberry was still on staff with the Hoyas. He was hired by the Seminoles in April." www.si.com/college/fsu/recruiting/four-star-forward-plans-to-officially-visit-florida-state-in-september

"Notre Dame has landed their second commitment in the class of 2024 with Garrett Sundra. Sundra, a 6-foot-10 forward from Fairfax (Va.) chose Notre Dame over Butler, Miami, Providence, and Virginia Tech. The addition of Sundra now adds a versatile stretch four man who is skilled, has upside and can shoot it from long range. Sundra joins four-star shooting guard Cole Certa. “I chose Notre Dame because Coach Farrelly and Coach Shrewsberry built a great relationship with me during the recruiting process,” Sundra said. “I think they have very big plans for Notre Dame basketball and are starting something special.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/garrett-sundra-notre-dame-micah-shrewsberry-214081041/

"Under Armour Elite 24: Day One Top Performers... 2. Four-star SF Khani Rooths Khani Rooths, On3’s No. 21 player in 2024, is one who simply continues to get better. When we first moved him into the top 20 last year, it was based on the flashes and potential outcomes of his trajectory. This summer, Rooths has continued to deepen his bag and show more confidence Rooths has always been a high-upside defensive player. He has excellent length, with a plus wing span that ties in well with good bounce and fluid lateral movement, He can slide his feet with wings and switch down to be a factor with forwards and some weak side post situations. As he continues adding weight, the defensive instincts could become substantial. However, the offensive bag is where the development has continued. There is some mid-post comfort there, and his shooting stroke from deep was balanced and consistent. Rooths has taken official visits to Mississippi State and Georgia to this point. 3. Five-star SF Bryson Tucker This was another good viewing for Bryson Tucker, the 6-foot-6 wing from the Maryland side of the DMV. Tucker played last season at Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy, before leaving the school in December. He did not play travel ball this summer, showing up at NBPA Top 100 Camp where he averaged 19.2 points on 64.3 percent shooting. Tucker showed that type of feel, the same he had at the NBPA Top 100 Camp, here. He has a great frame, standing every bit of 6-foot-6 – maybe taller – with great length and easy burst around the basket. He is comfortable on the ball and excellent in the mid-range. And while the offense was good for him, the defense might have been where he shined brightest. Tucker guarded the ball with a purpose, showing quick-twitch and strength at the point-of-attack. He moved his feet with guards and slid down to defend forwards. He competed. Tucker has taken a single official visit so far, to Michigan State... 5. Five-star PF Derik Queen Derik Queen walked away from the high school season with the esteemed distinction of being Montverde (FL) Academy’s leading scorer. He followed that up by averaging a double-double on the UAA Next Circuit, 19.8 points and 10.7 rebounds. Queen did a good job of using his bulk to wedge space on the block. He is very smart with leverage and angles, and this showed in his head-to-head match ups against Five-Star Plus+ center Flory Bidunga. Queen was a solid area rebounder, and he finished with both hands around the basket, absorbing contact and drawing fouls. He has taken official visits to Maryland and Indiana." www.on3.com/news/under-armour-elite-24-day-one-top-performers/

"For all the traveling he’s done while running with New World this spring and summer, Rooths has no plans on slowing things down now that the ball has stopped bouncing on the circuit season. Par for the course for one of the most sought after prospects in the rising senior class; mid-August typically serves as a time for elite players to rack up the frequent flyer miles on official visits and Rooths is no exception. The 6-foot-8 wing will be on the road “every weekend in September” heading to Virginia Tech, Michigan, Miami and Maryland. He’ll head to Georgia and Florida State in October. “It’s a lot of traveling, but I’m excited,” Rooths said. “Just the opportunity to be able to see the places that I could possibly be playing at should be fun. I think I want to make a decision around November; probably before the season starts.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/jordan-s-takeaways-under-armour-elite-24-in-atlanta

He duked it out at Friday’s scrimmage with the top dog Flory Bidunga and the two giants traded jabs on both ends of the floor. Both players were active early and often; Bidunga used his length to bother Queen’s shots and Queen used his footwork to maneuver into position on the low block. "Khani Rooths is the No. 22 player in the 2024 On3 150. The 6-foot-8 wing from Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy averaged 15.6 points this summer with his New World program on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit. “I’m running the court as hard as I can now, trying to beat the defense down the floor each possession,” Rooths told On3. “That is a big difference in my game. I can play defense one through five, and my catch-and-shoot is way better now than it was. My favorite player is LeBron James, and how he can do everything on the court. I watch a lot of him. I like watching Paul George and his game. He is smooth, but he is also aggressive at the same time.”... “I’ve taken official visits to Georgia and Mississippi State so far,” Rooths said... “I have official visits set with Virginia Tech, Georgia, and Michigan,” Rooths said. “I am talking to Maryland, Miami, and I think I’m going to visit Florida State too.” www.on3.com/news/khani-rooths-has-five-official-visits-on-his-mind-georgia-mississippi-state-michigan-maryland-miami-florida-state/

“I am talking to Maryland, Miami, and I think I’m going to visit Florida State too.” www.on3.com/news/khani-rooths-has-five-official-visits-on-his-mind-georgia-mississippi-state-michigan-maryland-miami-florida-state/"Four-star forward Khani Rooths was scheduled to take a second official visit to Georgia on Oct. 5 but will now be forced to move that date because of a conflict with USA Basketball mini-camp. The rest of his fall visit plans, however, will move forward as planned and include trips to Virginia Tech (Sept. 2), Michigan (Sept. 8) Maryland (Sept. 15), Florida State ( Sept. 22) and Miami (Sept. 28). But while every school receiving a fall official is alive in the race to land his pledge, it’s easy to deduce that the IMG Academy star’s official to in-state Maryland is among the most important dates on his fall itinerary. “It’s the home school,” Rooths said of the Terrapins on Saturday. “There’s pros and cons to that, but they’re building something new there. They have a lot of DMV guys ready to start a new tradition there and want me to be one of them. I’ve been there a lot, of course, but going back on the official is big for me. Now we’re really just talking about how they can look out for me and protect me if I decide to stay in the area and go there.” According to Rooths he intends to commit no sooner than the end of his final official visit, but has set no exact date for an announcement." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/cassidy-s-takeaways-will-barton-elite-camp-1

"On August 3rd AJ Swinton announced his commitment to Florida State becoming the first pledge in the class of 2024. The long and athletic wing from Hyattsville (Md.) chose Florida State over the likes of West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgetown among others. “I chose Florida State because of the people they put in the NBA like Scottie Barnes, Dwayne Bacon, and Malik Beasley.” Swinton said. “It’s called big guard U for a reason.” Swinton continued: “They’ve shown their ability to develop people at my size and length. They’re up there with some of the greatest schools like Kentucky, Kansas, and Duke when it comes to development. Also the coaching staff of coach Hamilton, coach Nickelberry, and coach Stan is great. They’re a fun group over there. I know I can go over there and have fun, chat, call them if I need but know they’ll still be rough on me in practice to be the best person I can be.”... “Communication has been great since the commitment,” he said. “Coach Nickelberry and coach Hamilton call me, my grandmother, my mother, and my little brother. My official is September 1st and 2nd and coach said he’s going to cook for me so I’m kind of excited. Everything is going great.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/article/aj-swinton-florida-state-leonard-hamilton-214668002/
