Unless there us some medical or family reasoning, I'm sure this is because if the new landscape of basketball. Jay Wright loves sitting guys for a year. Thats not gonna work anymore. Outside of Bridges he didn't sit kids for development reasons, they were all injuries or academics(Spellman) or transfers. I didn't mean just redshirt. He has alot of 5 star guys that didn't play the 1st year.

The rule has been in effect 2 years now, how many kids has Nova lost to transfer? Anyone besides Swider to Syracuse? Dylan Painter left Villanova without bitterness. He was not disgruntled. He just wanted to play more. “We're really proud of him here,” Villanova basketball coach Jay Wright said about the University of Delaware player.Mar 15, 2022

Wright is answering any and all questions at his final press conference today.
He said that he decided early this was the last season, that only his wife and the athletic director were told in advance.
He's hitting all the right notes. "Great endings", he said, "lead to great beginnings."
"We've got everything here. Everything is in place" for Kyle Neptune to succeed.

I wonder if he'll be asked whether the changed landscape of NCAAB with NIL and the transfer rules was part of his decision.

I know that most HoyaTalkers have an aversion to John Feinstein but he wrote an interesting column on Wright's retirement and thinks it may be just burn out. The last theory is the simplest and makes the most sense: Wright is burned out, not so much on coaching basketball but on everything that comes with coaching basketball. It isn’t just NIL and the transfer portal, although those are exhausting for all big-time college coaches. It’s being Jay Wright. www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/04/21/jay-wright-retired-appreciation/

Respect the honesty and the ability to admit he may be behind the times a little and there are people who can likely keep up better

Jay Wright pal will be ‘surprised’ if ex-Villanova coach doesn’t jump to NBA"“Forget college. I don’t think Jay will coach college again,” Francesa said. “ I think the new rules and the new protocols (NIL, the transfer portal) in college play away from what Jay does. Jay wants to develop players, and the game is played away from that with what’s going on with these recruiting protocols, it plays away from developing and having teams that are based over three or four years of development. But I don’t think there is any question Jay is going to be an extremely hot property for the NBA.”"elitesportsny.com/2022/05/04/jay-wright-nba-coaching-candidate-mike-francesa/

Francesca's track record in predicting anything sports-related (except for horse racing) is abysmal.

Hope Wright stays retired. Going to NBA tarnishes the remarks he made leaving Nova.

Hey Mike Francesa do you think Jason Giambi would be a good replacement for Coach Wright? I will hang up and listen to your response.

He’s also the world’s foremost expert in snow blower operation. To bring this back to Georgetown hoops, who’s less deserving of the several million per year they make? Ewing or Francesa? That’s a dead heat…

Isn't Mike Francesa retired? Patrick Ewing should be retired too. He can blame the evolution of the coaching landscape and NIL for all I care, the important part is to retire.

I’d prefer a more humiliating end, one bad enough that he never shows his face in public again.
