Goodbye coach Wright! NIL is running these lifers out of the college coaching industry. I love it the players control college basketball now.

Setting any possible family health issues aside, a “retirement” allows Wright to step down from Villanova gracefully and without jeopardizing any loyalty/good will with the university. If, in a year or two, he wants to make the jump back into college or NBA coaching, he’ll be able to do so quite comfortably.
Smart plan.

Hearing from a Nova friend that Jay’s wife may be sick. I was honestly worried it would be something bad like that because this was very sudden and at a weird time I feel like

I've wondered whether Duke and Villanova could continue their runs atop the college basketball world after Mike Krzyzewski and Jay Wright retired.
We are now going to see.

Truly the measure of a great program vs just a great coach. UNC, Kansas, Indiana, & Kentucky have proven to be bigger than a single coach. Duke and Nova remain to be seen. Both good programs, but their HOF coaches took them to another level. UConn and Georgetown seem to be a product of one coach, with no one before or after reaching similar heights.

The story was broken by John Fanta. He's just 26 and might be working alongside Wright at a FS1 broadcast near you.
There he was in 2019 asking Wright some questions as he's leaving the Garden following the Big East title. Three years later, he got the scoop.
