At some point, there will a handful of teams that can buy their way into contention. The rest will just go through the motions. Obscure schools w no traditional sports prowess but a single strong donor can buy their way to the top. The American Way

I'd bet a nice chunk of change that 5 years from now there won't be any obscure schools at the top of HM basketball or football...

The whole appeal for college basketball/football to me is that it is a different product than NFL/NBA. As it moves to one Super League and starts to resemble a pro league (less conferences, no bowl games, identical playoff system to the NFL, salary cap) I think it's going to turn off alot of fans.

Is that neccsarily a bad thing though SD?

EtomicB and professorhoya -- I don't know yet whether what is coming will be better or worse than what we have now. All I know is that all of us here closely follow the current version, and this is by no means a guarantee with what comes next.

A school should focus on academics and educating students, not on managing minor league teams in various sports.

At some point, there will a handful of teams that can buy their way into contention. The rest will just go through the motions. And Degoia has already said GU would opt out of that.

This is only the beginning… Bilas at it again. Always jumps on the bandwagon and then acts all fiery. Backfired for him when he said VCU should not be in the tournament, period.

Reads to me you’re only talking about football here, why should CBB fans care?

Can someone answer this question for me please. Let's say, I have a product that I wish for one of the guys to promote. Say I would like for the player to do a 10 second video promoting this product. Can Coach Ewing also be in the video? Or, is that against the rules of NIL?

That's a rather large assumption you're making.

That's a rather large assumption you're making. I think it's valid at the QB position as that is the one position that has to be elite to have a championship team. When they win they get all the praise over the rest of the team. I think at pretty much any other position you can still get by with mediocre performance as long as the rest of the team is playing well. You can't do that at QB.

That's also valid considering how well they did last year compared to this year. It was discussed earlier on here in the case of Graham Mertz and his extremely proactive NIL jockeying on this board. And Clemson well they are having a historically horrible season by their standards. We've seen it at the elite level of Tennis and gymnastics as well where the pressure can get to you when too much is going on. We live in an age where sponsorship and social media almost become two more jobs for the stars, sometimes it's good to just go back to what got you there. Just focus on football or baseball. Focus on your craft. If you are good the money will come.

I also think individual NIL is problematic in a team sport like football because why is the QB getting all the money while the o line and defense are getting pennies. That puts more pressure on the QB when they perform poorly or average. Really the NIL money should be divided equally amount teammates. I mean we didn’t even have NIL money and there was hostility to all the attention MacClung was getting. Just imagine is Mac had been getting NIL money.

I can't believe we don't have anything like that.
