I suppose it's worth at least a mention that the "GATA Squad" is ranked #9 in the country and opened the season on the road with a 16-1 annihilation of Villanova (themselves ranked in the top 20 to start the year).
Swag levels approaching all-time highs.

Watched and enjoyed it. Anyone know why no Dylan Watson?

Hoyas move up to #5 in the rankings today. Not to discredit that ranking, but I always found it funny that the 20 teams included in the rankings encompass about a fourth of all D1 programs. Hopefully the sport continues to grow in popularity and we can see more D1 teams down the road. We have an excellent club team here in Eugene, OR that I'm sure would love the join the ranks at some point.
I miss watching lacrosse games on the Hilltop.

Most definitely but don't want to count those chickens before they're hatched...we're still a long way away from Memorial Day Madness So I have to ask, as someone who hasn’t followed the program for 2+ years. What changed? Last I recall this amount of conversation about the team, it was lamentations about how the best days of the program were clearly behind them.

What changed? Last I recall this amount of conversation about the team, it was lamentations about how the best days of the program were clearly behind them. From a grand narrative sense, I'd say what happened is that Kevin Warne had the rebuild going according to plan and then hit a real rough patch in 2016 (2-12) and 2017 (4-10). Why did that happen? I'm honestly not totally sure. Maybe some of it was the continued decrepitude of the facilities turning off top recruits (the Thompson Center, where the lacrosse teams have their locker rooms, didn't open until Fall 2016). Or maybe there was just some combination of underperformance, bad internal team dynamics, some bad apples and/or weak leadership, and whatever other things tend to happen on such teams. In any case, there were some really talented classes that came in right around that time that seemed used those $hit sandwich years as motivation, because what has followed has been a pretty sharp rise back to the top of the new Big East. This season preview in The Voice goes into greater detail about that, as well as What Could Have Been(tm) in 2020: georgetownvoice.com/2021/02/26/georgetown-mens-lacrosse-how-good-can-the-2021-hoyas-be/Those kinds of slumps can happen even with good programs trending upward - recall the men's soccer team having that forgettable 6-9-2 campaign in 2016 sandwiched between the 2015 season that saw them finish a flawless 11-0 in combined Big East regular season and Big East tournament play and the 2017 campaign in which they went 14-4-2 and took 2nd in the Big East regular season and won the conference tourney.

This is very good team. Oddly, Carraway may be the best Hoya lax player ever (he is certainly up in the top echelon), but he probably isn't even a Top 5 player in the country this year. And that is not a knock against him by any means - just some ridiculous talent out there. He wasn't a pre-season first teamer, but hopefully he continues to kick butt and proves that it was a huge oversight not to include him.

Some nicely produced highlights of the Nova game here, courtesy of LAX.com:
I second the YouTube commenter who said, and I quote:
That is the filthiest defensive play I have ever seen in a lacrosse match. This is the sort of thing you get sent to the Lacrosse Hague for. You can practically hear JR screaming "THAT MAN HAS A FAMILY!" when you watch it.

There was a player with his knee in a brace and up on a scooter around the huddle at the St. John's game. That, I fear, was Dylan Watson. Looks like no hope for this year and he will be missed as a finisher. Petkevich seems to have picked up some of that slack.
