I wonder if he was targeted with racial slurs from MAGA Republicans as was Officer Harry Dunn of the Capitol Police. HoyaTalk GOPers, proud of your cult/party? Still claim to be the party of law and order? Hypocrites.

Will any HT Republicans help me out and link to messages of condolences offered by members of your cult/party to the families of these fallen officers? Thanks in advance.

Former President Trump is attempting to claim absolute immunity from liability in three civil suits challenging his role in inciting an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. But Supreme Court precedent, as well as the separation of powers and policy considerations, compel the conclusion that Trump cannot escape liability for his actions, including encouraging, for his personal gain, the violent disruption of a constitutionally mandated session of Congress. This conclusion is critical to preserving the essential principle that no one—not even a president—is above the law. www.lawfareblog.com/why-trump-cannot-hide-behind-presidential-immunity-inciting-insurrection

Out of curiosity, do you think anything would be different today if they had gotten to Pence and killed him as they had threatened? I don't think it would change a thing and that's scary.

Considering the changing demographics of the country, what is the long-term plan for the "Republican" party? As each year passes, they're more and more of a minority. They may eek out one more Presidential election but, after that, what's the plan?

Cultist follow the directions of their cult leader. See Jim Jones and the Peoples'Temple. If the MAGA cultists were willing to assault law enforcement officers to further the aims of their sociopath leader, killing Pence would merely demostrate their fealty to him. They are no different than the terrorists who followed the exhortations of Osama Bin Laden.

The corrupt aithoritarian racist MAGA Republicans will jettison any hallmarks of American democracy in their craven pursuit of White supremacist power over America. They are scum.

Let’s also be honest here. Demographics != Destiny. God knows how many pundits (Richard Florida, Karl Rove, etc.) have placed bets on long term, enduring partisan majorities based on demographics that have fallen flat on their faces in just a couple of years. In this case, all it would take is one awful candidate (e.g., Clinton, AOC, Bernie) to be nominated, and all assumptions get tossed out the window in a flurry of emotional appeals that will actually work. So yeah, the Rs have work cut out for them, but the Ds do too to ensure that they don’t become complacent.

Some argue that the Dems are already too complacent given the rather tepid response to the concerted effort by the MAGA Republicans to establish the groundwork for its second coup attempt. The amoral bastards are going to try again.

Those around me in suburban CT who went for Biden, despite being conservative moderates or outright Republicans, would have found Bernie to be a bridge too far. Moving to a too progressive candidate too quickly can easily sink inroads made with hard won suburban voters.

And with Harris in the wings I posit that regardless of her actual policy positions she'd be a prime target as a Black woman and characterized as a radical socialist by the basest elements of the MAGA Republicans. Racism and misogyny are part and parcel of the GOP base.

Racism and misogyny are part and parcel of the GOP base. Don't many "fine" Republicans view every Democrat as a radical socialist these days? Many even tried to paint Biden with that brush. And it seemed to be a popular theme of the Georgia Senate races (and since that effort failed, well, it's voter suppression time).

The catalyst for the Capitol riot was the fact that Trump, the sitting president of the United States, had engaged in a months-long propaganda campaign to convince his supporters that Biden had been illegitimately elected, and indulged a series of hare-brained schemes to cling to power even after being defeated including pressuring Republican legislators to void the results in their states, imposing on the Justice Department to declare the results fraudulent, demanding the Supreme Court declare him winner by fiat, and telling state election officials to “find” fraudulent votes as pretext for him to contest the outcome. The behavior of the mob on January 6, however, is difficult to comprehend without grasping how Trump and the rioters understand the role of police. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/08/blue-wall-silence/619612/

Brought to America by the corrupt and morally bankrupt treasonous MAGA Republican Party. In the retelling of Jan. 6, we see an echo of Lost Cause mythology. On that terrible day, terrorists took up arms against the United States, sacking the seat of the U.S. government in a deadly rampage. White supremacists marauded through the Capitol. It was a coup attempt, aimed at overturning the will of the people with brute force, encouraged by a defeated president and his allies. The Capitol Police and D.C. Metropolitan Police, badly outnumbered, ultimately prevailed in putting down the insurrection. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/08/06/we-cant-let-terrorists-rewrite-history-jan-6/?itid=hp_opinions

HT "Republicans": Is it "It's all cool" or do you finally have the honesty to admit you've been "bamboozled"?? Ha ha ha. 🤔

So the Attorney General of the United States, and his Deputy, are the president’s “closest advisors” now. They are totally willing to toss Democracy to the side if it means more power for Republicans.
