We can be sure that a “Commission” on any topic will be an efficient use of resources and lead to airtight conclusions devoid of agendas...

U.S. prosecutors alleged Monday that Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes was in direct contact before, during and immediately after the Jan. 6 Capitol breach with members since charged with plotting to prevent Congress from confirming the results of the 2020 presidential election. But they said the chat messages, combined with Rhodes’s previous statements, “all show that the co-conspirators joined together to stop Congress’s certification of the Electoral College vote, and they were prepared to use violence, if necessary, to effect this purpose. … They were plotting to use violence to support the unlawful obstruction of a Congressional proceeding.” www.washingtonpost.com/local/legal-issues/stewart-rhodes-oathkeepers-capitol-riot/2021/03/09/2c3d7fd8-808a-11eb-9ca6-54e187ee4939_story.html

Was it really a lack of resources that accounted for the failures of Jan. 6? Or was it a failure to take seriously the obvious threat posed by a White mob egged on by a president intent on undermining the results of a free and fair election? Congress needs to undertake a far more detailed examination of all that went wrong on Jan. 6 to determine not just how best to secure the Capitol but also the country. The report failed to address what Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.), among the lawmakers briefed Monday by the task force, called the “underbelly” of the situation: the role of race. Did police botch the response because they didn’t view White supporters of former president Donald Trump as any kind of possible threat? ProPublica has detailed the accounts of some Capitol Police officers contrasting the intensive preparation they received for the protests that followed the death of George Floyd to their lackadaisical preparation for Jan. 6. “We went to work like it was a normal [expletive] day,” one officer said. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/was-it-really-a-lack-of-resources-that-led-to-the-failures-of-jan-6/2021/03/09/c2471792-8101-11eb-9ca6-54e187ee4939_story.html

March 11, 2021 at 6:00 a.m. EST Recent statements by Donald Trump and his enablers prove that he and his Big Lie that the 2020 election was stolen aren’t departing from American politics anytime soon. But neither is the push to hold him legally accountable, as shown by a new lawsuit — the second against Trump by a member of Congress arising out of the failed Jan. 6 insurrection. As attorneys who have overseen prosecutions or other accountability efforts in Republican and Democratic administrations alike, we believe the combination of civil cases and a pair of rapidly accelerating state criminal investigations make for a potent force to combat the ex-president’s ongoing wrongdoing. www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/03/11/trump-lawsuits-civil-criminal/?utm_campaign=wp_main&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook
