Scoreless at the half. I think we've had the better of play and spent more time in the Gamecocks defensive end, but not sure either team has generate a quality scoring chance yet.

South Carolina awarded a PK, saved. 62 minutes in, still 0-0.

The 2 yahoos they have announcing it sound like they'd rather be announcing NASCAR.

JENNA MENTA! End to end, beating multiple defenders, and finishing in the corner with 52 seconds left. Hoyas lead 1-0.

The 2 yahoos they have announcing it sound like they'd rather be announcing NASCAR. They were so bad we almost turned off the sound. Then, on top of it, they kept calling Lauren, Alyssa, for over 20 minutes of the second half and even after her PK save. Diarrhea of the mouth. So often, the game speaks for itself as it finally did today. What. a great run by Menta.

Menta is certainly not undeserving of Offensive Player of the Year honors, but you could easily make an argument for Gia Vicari here. I suspect there was an element of "lifetime achievement award" in the ultimate selection. No complaints here. You know, looking back on this thing I wrote before the start of the Big East Tournament... I don't think I was *wrong* in my assessment that Jenna Menta's offensive numbers were 'great but not runaway with the award great.' Given two offensive studs, give it to the senior who has put in the work over four years -that seemed to me to be the thinking. And yet, at the 11th hour of her career on the Hilltop (I say that in full recognition that NCAA Covid waivers make the whole concept of 'final year of eligibility' very tricky this time around), Menta has completely rewritten the narrative of her time at Georgetown. Following an inaugural season that saw her named to the Big East All-Freshman Team, Jenna's next two seasons demonstrated steady, but not explosive, growth. Just one assist and 0 goals, with no starts, in her sophomore campaign. Then 10 starts (out of 18 games played), 3 goals, and four assists as a junior. The regular season in this 2020-played-in-spring-2021 campaign was, as I said, great - the long-awaited realization of the promise displayed as a freshman. And then... Folks, I hate to compare any Hoya to a Syracuse player, but I cannot think of any better parallel for the ending of the last three games than Gerry McNamara's blitz through the 2006 Big East Tournament. That performance is seared into my mind because I was there for most of it... and because it was unlike anything I have seen before or since. Kemba and the Miracles came close, but this was something else. The dynamics of a soccer match are very different from a basketball game, of course... but that only makes Jenna's performance more extraordinary. *Three* consecutive game-winning plays (I am counting the run all the way to the goalmouth that drew the PK ultimately slotted home by Julia Leas against Creighton). In post-season, win-or-go-home play. Two in OT, one in the last minute of regulation. This...this simply doesn't happen in soccer. There's 9 other field players demanding attention and the ball! And yet here we are. It's the equivalent of someone hitting three walk-off home runs in a row...except soccer goals are a lot harder to come by than runs, or even home runs, in baseball. A performance that will go down in history, without question. Glad we got to witness it.
