Up 1-0 at the half, Menta hit the bar from distance (trying for another spectacular goal with this shot from outside the box wide) for Fernandez-Powell to hit it in close, not the easiest finish with it coming fast to hit it on the volley with pressure from behind

TCU goal, 1-1, 13:42 left. Annoying to give that one up, since it felt like we had pretty good control of the game for the 15 or so minutes I'd been watching.

90 minutes, 1-1. Next goal wins. Please let it be for the Hoyas.

It looked like that goal put TCU on the front foot for the last 20 minutes of regulation. Hoping the Hoyas can reset and control in OT.

Fernandez-Powell hits the first PK, and lightning delay is called before TCU takes their first PK. Delay of at least 30 minutes.

TCU wins, 1-1 (1-3 on PKs). Awful way of deciding a game, pity that weather had to be a factor, congratulations on an overall terrific season despite some significant challenges, ladies.

Brutal. Dominated the first 70 mins. Had four or five grade a chances to put the game away with a second goal. And then TCU scores against the run of play and we lose our edge.
The shootout was not much of one. TCU made theirs easily

The only thing worse than a shoot out is a shoot out with a one hour delay in the rain

Congratulations to the women on a great undefeated regular season. Too bad about the bad luck in the TCU game.

Congratulations to the women on a great undefeated regular season. Too bad about the bad luck in the TCU game. Not just an undefeated regular season, but - thanks to the peculiar nature of how soccer judges games decided by kicks from the spot - an undefeated season, period. I'm with Dave and Ashley on this one - just a real tough pill to swallow: Specifically, tough because there is this sense that the magic could've kept on going. I felt similarly after another match that ended in PKs in North Carolina - the 2017 tournament game in which the women were criminally underseeded and forced to play at Wake Forest in their first match. As it is, TCU was the best team the Hoyas have played all year, in no way undeserving of their #4 seed. For the Hoyas to have played them as they did makes you believe that another College Cup was a real possibility. thehoya.com/womens-soccer-georgetown-falls-to-tcu-on-penalty-kicks-in-high-stakes-thriller/We will always have the memories, though, especially that 3-game stretch of gamewinners by Menta that I cannot stop gushing about. It will be interesting indeed to see what next year's roster looks like, given the various Covid-related waivers and the like. Not to mention the presumed return of Anna Leat from her exile back home in New Zealand.

Santa Clara takes the title, downing Florida State in PKs after a 1-1 draw. The Noles struck the post on their first two kicks while the Broncos were perfect from the spot.
Dave Nolan presumably will be telling every recruit - especially the reach ones - "You can win the national title as a non-Power 5 Catholic school" from now on.

He has probably told them that before as Santa Clara has won the title before and the University of Portland has won the title twice (Megan Rapinoe and Christine Sinclair being names you might have heard and played for UP).

A lot has changed in the women's college soccer - and NCAA generally - landscape since 2005. There's a reason that not just the champion but the runner up as well (and almost all of the semifinalist slots) since Portland won in '05 have been football power conference schools (I'm including Notre Dame in there because of their special football status).
