“Took time to vote” lmao yeah they spent all that time reading the tweet and tapping their phone, what a labor intensive task showing the difference in the programs. It wouldn’t be a “stupid” poll if Casual hadn’t been relentlessly annoying since last year talking about Pitino or if this poll was posted when bother rosters were complete. Beating an horse to death is an understatement for him and certain people on this board. And he has I think close to 15k followers. I wanted Pitino too but people need to get over it already sheesh. I don’t know about you, but I don’t vote in every poll I come across. 951 people felt it was worth voting or felt it was important to have their voices heard. That’s all. 1,072 votes now. St John’s hanging strong at 79%.

79.5% St. John’s, 20.5% Georgetown Given that Casual Hoya has been relentlessly negative against Cooley and Georgetown, and a fanboy of Rick Pitino and St. John's for the last year, this should not be surprising. Online polls are silly, even if in this case, it is right that St. John's is in better position than us. They were much better than us last year and Rick Pitino is a Hall of Fame Coach. This poll is stupid and meant as something for people like hoyaboya to throw out there in their endless attempt to be negative. Why a supposed-Georgetown fan site would do this, I don't know. Other than Casual's weird and ongoing fascination with Rick Pitino. I wanted Pitino too, but he's never going to coach at Georgetown and I am past March 2023 at this point. St. John's under Anderson never had a losing record and even Mullins last year was good so like you I don't see the point of this post.

Did Cooley even consider Richmond, or was it assumed he was St. Johns? Maybe that question needs to be turned around. Did Richmond consider Georgetown? And why would he unless it's so much more $$$$ than Pitino and SJU could offer him. Richmond is from NY so I doubt he was ever even considering going anywhere that wasn't right in that area. It is really the perfect place for him.

We have won 4 conference games in the past 3 years. Of course St. John's is in better shape than we are. So is pretty much every other team in the nation!
There are no mysteries or questions here - just clear, unpleasant facts. So I don't see much point in getting worked up about the obvious reality of what a bad place the program is in. We won't know if the state of the team is improving until they get back on the court in November. Between now and then, I plan to hope that Cooley can add another couple of useful players, and hope even harder that he and his staff can do a better job coaching up this year's talent than they did coaching up last year's talent. Other than that - I would rather enjoy the spring and summer than spend much time angry and depressed about the state of the program.

Excuse for what or who I don't know because I don't need to make an excuse for anyone. He is NY through and through. I would have gladly taken him over any guard we have now but I doubt he was going anywhere that wasn't NY centric. I'm sure you are smart enough to know Syracuse although further away is more NY than DC just like Newark/South Orange even though in Jersey is basically an extension of NYC. If you didn't think St John's was the perfect choice for his final college days than I don't know what to tell you. He was getting the PT and NIL no matter where he went.

951 votes as of right now According to 2003, this poll is stupid. Still, 951 people took time to vote. I didn’t know casual had so much traffic. I hate to bring politics into basketball, but this is like saying that Donald Trump posted a poll of him v. Biden on Twitter or Truth Social, he won 90%-10%, and the fact that 35,000 people voted in his poll is meaningful. It literally takes seconds to vote. This isn't driving your car to the polls through rain to cast a vote. So yes, I firmly believe online non-scientific polls on any issue like this are stupid in almost every instance. It's also stupid because the poll question is really not debatable. St. John's is clearly better positioned than Georgetown. If you think that Georgetown is currently situated better than St. John's, you're either delusional, living under a rock, or your fandom is so great that you just have to select Georgetown in any poll regardless of the merits (the latter of which is a reason why a poll like this is garbage). I bet if Georgetown is better than St. John's 2-3 years down the road, though, Casual won't rerun the poll, as it would be inconsistent with his newfound St. John's fandom.

So I can't deny that his block % looks great and he seems to have great timing. But the vertical in those highlights doesn't seem super athletic -- obviously enough but not incredible -- and offensively, at least, there does seem to be a bit of the delay on the first step. I think he's still a very good get at this point, and anytime you can get a guy who can play a bit down low but also hit a wide open outside shot, it is nice. There's some shot blocking there. But I'm not entirely sold on the athleticism and I do think the heavy transition play I've seen ... we've not really had that kind of transition game for a long time. I do like getting fours who seem much more likely to be able to defend on the perimeter / make it to the corner on rotations. I think both Fielder and Sorber are going to be defensive 5s next year (and maybe forever) so I think having options here allows us to put them in a place where they don't need to do that as much. And as both have offensive options in the post others don't have, that can get them on the court more.

It wasn’t that obvious of an answer for 20% of the voters. Who cares if casual put up this poll? Why can’t you just be ok with the fact that so many people can be objective and are disappointed with where we are? It’s OK. With winning, even casual will come around. The quicker, the better… but, for the next couple of seasons, our program will be compared to SJ and Providence, for obvious reasons. It’s common sense.
