Back in the early nineties, I worked with Kendall Gill's cousin. We worked at a bank together for years. He never told me that his cousin was rich, never. Gill didn't grow up with a silver spoon. Did he tell you Kendall was poor? It's all relative but I've always heard he was well off. He would travel from the suburbs into inner city Chicago to hone his game and play against the best players just like junior high kid Chris Mullin and Michael Rappaaport went up to Harlem to improve his game. Maybe there are levels between well-off and inner city.

Patrick, Deke, ZO and AI all serving as pall bearers. Quite something. Great job men. All four are excellent reps of Hoya Basketball in their own ways.

Remembrances from the Big East coaching contingent.
I completely forgot that McDermott was the coach of Northern Iowa when we played them in Dayton in the '06 tourney.

What an amazing photo. This looks like St. Augustines. I live around the corner and it saddens me so much that I had a chance to be there to witness this historic and solemn moment, but completely missed it. There is no place I would have rather been. Upon reflection, 4 of the reasons I chose to attend Georgetown in 1991 are captured in this shot. I can't imagine how many lives have been positively influenced and impacted by the men in this photo. Thank you to these guys for literally influencing my life decisions. So blessed to be a part of this Georgetown community. Never forget.

I am a GU Class of 1996 graduate and I have been a sports journalist for 25 years. I wanted to share a story I did on Thompson, perhaps an angle not talked about as much over his career. Thanks for the article. One note: the article's wording of the bedsheet slur on Coach Thompson before the Feb. 5, 1975 game vs. Dickinson College is slightly different in the contemporary accounts of the game. See pages 6 and 16 in the following link. repository.library.georgetown.edu/bitstream/handle/10822/554944/1975-02-07.pdfIn today's hypercharged era, there would have been a door to door manhunt for perpetrators; but in 1975 no one was actually charged. "As far as the administration is concerned, the matter isn't worth the publicity that has been generated, so the fool will not be pursued," said Rev. Robert Henle SJ in The HOYA. There were anecdotal stories that suggested the two people who did it had a grudge with Thompson over lost locker room space and not the basketball team's record, which was 8-8 going into that particular game. From that point, Georgetown won 10 of its next 11 and made the NCAA's for the first time in 32 years.

White Coach Privilege. White coaches can fail over and over again and are given the opportunity to learn from their mistakes and experience. (They are also allowed to cheat without consequence. See Will Wade and Shawn Miller) Adam Gase 23-25 record with Dolphins Hired by New York Jets Frank Vogel loser in Orlando Hired by Lakers Randy Whitman Loser in Cleveland, Minnesota, Wizards The game is stacked against the black coach.

Deepest condolences to the entire Hoya faithful. Was quite a man and such a huge influence. One of, if not the face of the BE and major agent of change for the good.
If I may... supposedly the story goes like this. A few years back, Rollie's grandson was on the Nova staff for a while. At a game, he saw Coach T and nervously went up to introduce himself.... Coach said, the next time you see your grandfather, tell him I said go Edited himself, he'll know who it is... so he told his grandfather, i met someone you know who told me to tell you go f yourself. Rollie laughed and said How is Big John? Hope the are enjoying a drink together.
