When you say: "In an imaginary world where Carey came back, I don't think anybody on HoyaTalk would have thought it was a bad idea" I think you underestimate the persistent negativity of at least 3 or 4 who post. I don't need to name the names. Most readers know who they are. Of course, nothing that can't happen is provable, but... experience can teach some of us. By and large the only people who say bad things about players are the ones who are trying to defend Patrick Ewing's record. I don't know how far "by and large" extends, but some people say bad things about players so they can blame those "bad things" on Pat. We all know no one gets better under him.

Ahhh, the it-happens-to-all-the-programs excuse. How does Villanova do it? It doesn't happen to all programs, but I think you and I know the answer to your question. Again, Don's departure is a bad example for any discussion about our issues in retaining players. It's all busines now with NIL. Don made the best business decision for him. And we made the best business decision for us. It's that simple. Let's face it then where hoping for Aminu to enter the portal and when that didn't happen all they were left with was substitute their prepackaged argument with Don.

Didn't you just trash Freeman? Is he a 20 year old player or a grown man lobbying for a job attacking a student for transferring? He said transferring from GU to UMD isn’t cool and later in a response said he was happy for Don but wished it wasn’t Maryland jokingly. Is that what we qualify as an “attack” these days? Sawft.

What was he supposed to say. No, I don't want you back, you aren't a leader and aren't clutch so we want to give the Captaincy to somebody else? He didn’t have to say anything. Maybe “Congrats on yet another degree!” Exactly. Or: "Thanks for your contributions over the last two years, we very much appreciate that you left it all on the Court." "As my first captain, you represent what Georgetown basketball means, how we conduct ourselves, and you served as an inspiration to our younger guys. It is much appreciated." You can imagine a bunch of different ways Ewing could have said something without saying he wanted Carey back. Ewing was not forced to say he wanted Carey back, he chose to say it. This really shouldn't be controversial. The idea that Ewing would not have wanted Carey back, or somehow forced him out, is almost certainly a creation of those who try to find no fault with the program or those in charge of it. There is zero evidence to support that theory. Granted, I do think most (including most of HoyaTalk) thought Carey would go professional after this season, but we knew he had eligibility and so did Ewing, or he would not have made that comment. I find it hard to believe Ewing didn't have a talk with Carey and express his desire for him to return. Ewing has been around sports media and in the sports world for decades. While he might not be the sharpest or best communicator, he's not throwing things out willy nilly, either.

We can debate all day whether the incoming talent is better. But this is certainly not a situation where they got caught OFF GUARD...

Sorry to bump this, but I completely missed this post directed to me. Ahhh, the it-happens-to-all-the-programs excuse. How does Villanova do it? Missed this one too: Yes, let’s not believe Ewing with the mic in a party… Correct, let’s give zero credence to coach speak because it is meaningless, especially coming from Pat. Disagree. That wasn’t coach speak. He didn’t say it to the other players. Why wouldn’t he want him back?

1. The answer to Villanova as an example is Jay Wright and his exceptional program. 2. And I disagree for the reasons previously stated. 1. Why can’t we have the exceptional program? I agree with what you’re implying that it starts with the head coach. 2. Settled.

I agree with what you’re implying that ir starts with the head coach. 2. Settled. I think we should have had the close-to-exceptional program, although Wright turned out to be a generational coach. We could point the usual finger at the Administration, but it starts with analyzing what went wrong in the III years. Everything flows downstream from there, including the present Coach.

How is Carey doing in his pro training? Was he at the Combine or G League Elite?
