If you’re local, it’s on MASN2 at midnight. Ugh, thanks for the info. I am local but out of town this weekend. Was hoping it’d be on replay some time tomorrow afternoon or evening. Need to figure out a DVR situation for solely streaming Off the innernet Checking the guide, it looks like MASN2 is also going to replay the game Monday morning at 2am. Unless they just forget and show an infomercial instead, I guess. But I assume it’s worth a shot on the DVR.

Great game today. Everyone pitched in, and PE did a good job throwing out some defensive wrinkles. Bravo, and Hoya Saxa.

Now I know exactly poor I am at judging a team and its coaching staff. On the other thread I predicted, with Yurt and Mac missing, we would lose 77-58. And when my wife and I sat down to watch the game I told her we were going to get blown out. Later, as we sat down to dinner, I munched carefully on my words and, boy, did they taste good. Join the club...

PE has some tough decisions to make. Besides what to do with Mac he has to determine if he is willing to give up Yurts' offense for Wahab/Iggy defense. I really like the Hoya team we had on the floor today. Holding Butler to 66 points is really impressive. Going forward defense will determine whether we dance this year. BTW, anyone else think that we got payback today for all the crappy calls against us over the past 2 years?

So happy.
I think we need Mac - at this point though first game back , is bring him off bench. He isn’t going to be able to go more than 20 is my guess.
And you work on going super hard now that guys can get a rest
As for bigs - Tim is raw guys. We were stealing mins. But maybe he gets 5 a game?

We get it...your so desperate for attention...enjoy the start...root for the team...first comment of course has to be a shot at Ewing...what a fan... I’m not desperate for attention. Just pointing out to the Pat can do no wrong crowd that he is often wrong until forced to the right. You don’t have to worry about me rooting for this lineup considering it’s been the one I’ve been clamoring for for weeks. I would be surprised if they can sustain for a whole game with only 5 experienced guys but this team would be great if Mac and Yurt were backups today 😉 As opposed to the Pat is all wrong crowd = You

I refuse to give credit when he lucks into changes that he should’ve made when he had options. I guess Pat truly can do no wrong. When he plays the wrong guys he doesn’t have enough talent. When he’s forced into actually playing the correct guys and philosophy he gets credit.

Everytime I've seen him on court it seems like the opponents are intimidate and scare of his length and presence.

Who would have ever thought that when Akinjo left that Allen's game would become so so good Allen was always good. Look at what he did with UCF.

I like the fact that the offense flowed today and we didn’t get stuck trying to pound the ball in the post. Our offense stagnates when we pound it in the middle and we become very one dimensional. Plus, our bigs aren’t great passing it out of the post. I like having our bigs get their points off of putbacks and the occasional post feed where they get a dunk...and let the rest of the offense flow through our guards.

Still a very undermanned team and there will be plenty of opportunity for all when McClung and Yurtseven return. What has been gained during this injury stretch is valuable experience for Wahab. McClung has been watching and can see what happens when the ball moves. If he plays within the system he is a major addition and players like Allen and Mosley can get some rest down the stretch. If he goes hunting for shots, then Ewing can sit him and settle him down. Team will be much better off returning to a true 7 man rotation.

Yurt is too talented offensively to limit his game to putbacks and the occasional post feed where he gets a dunk. When he is hot and/or has a good match down low he can be a weapon. At the same time we definitely need ball movement. Patrick has to pound it into Yurt's head that he needs to be decisive - make a move and take a shot if it is available and not forced, otherwise kick it back out quickly. Maybe it's too late in the season for Yurt to improve on that, but make it clear to him that his touches - and his minutes - will be limited if he doesn't. And make the post feed just one of the options on offense, not a constant.

Proud to be an alum today, just an unbelievably inspired effort from the team. Contributions from everyone who played plus some nice adjustments from the coaching staff.
On offense, we're all accustomed to Ewing yelling MOVE THE BALL. If you get just a little half-step and force the defense to rotate and you keep moving and attack, a crease opens up. If just one person hesitates to scan the defense, they are able to get back into position. We did a really good job of manufacturing scoring opportunities by being able to drive and kick. 10 3s and they were mostly open / solid looks. That's the key number for us.
I'm happy we didn't just simply throw the ball to Wahab instead of Yurt7. He's so active that he'll get the cleanup points, similar to LeBlanc, without having to force offense through him. There will be a time and place for that stuff, hopefully next season when he can be an anchor for the offense.
Tim I. did better than I expected. On defense he moved a little slow and was still processing stuff (there was one play where Mosely seemed upset with his positioning) but he can still have an impact with his size. And Ewing smartly moved to a zone w him on the floor in the 2nd half for a few possessions as that minimized his responsibilities. On offense, he didn't get in the way, set solid screens, and had the two huge putbacks. Game-changing stuff.
Ewing made a point in first half to switch defenses coming out of timeouts. For a team that hasn't switched defenses a ton, good way to do it and make sure everyone is on the same page before the switch.
Blair's corner 3 against the 1-3-1 zone basically forced them to abandon it, big shot.
Pet peeve might be our struggles to defend out of bounds plays with low time on the clock. JT3 always played zone in those situations, something for Ewing to consider. That McDermott corner 3 could've been a killer.
The biggest adjustment down the stretch was ditching the hard hedge for Baldwin pick and rolls. Mosely was basically icing the screen w big dropping in coverage. Something I have been begging for, and you saw the benefits of it. Nze is not a playmaker, when Baldwin passed him the ball to attack he wasn't able to do anything w a scrambled 4-on-3. So then Baldwin was waiting and trying to get a re-screen, now he has to try and hit a crazy floater over Wahab. He made one but missed a few others. It's a really difficult / low pct shot and exactly what we want the offense to take. There's no real pick and pop center threat in the big east (where this coverage would be most exposed) so I hope it becomes a staple and not a one-off.
I was at the Providence game on NYE, I want the team out for blood to make up for what they did to us. Huge game to keep the momentum

Great game, great shooting, great win. One thing I wanted to add was that this was by far our slowest game all season - only 58 possessions - and I thought it benefitted our guys immensely. Especially with only having the 5 starters and Ighoefe, the slower pace helps.
Obviously, Butler being slower is a big factor, but on offense we worked hard to get open looks and used more of the shot clock. I still say that being fast for fast’s sake is not something to strive for, as long as the ball is moving and the offense is clicking on all cylinders.

There were so many impressive things that happened in yesterday’s game...but perhaps the most impressive number is that the guys who played 40/40/40 yesterday combined for only 5 fouls. They were sliding their feet and not using their hands on defense. Amazing discipline and probably some very good coaching mixed in.

At halftime as a team we had six fouls spread amongst six players (Wahab had none). That might have been the biggest stat going into the second half. We are getting precious moments for Wahab and Ighoefe with Yurt out and they are each in their own way adjusting to the speed of Big East BB (Wahab a few steps ahead). Getting this PT this year is critical not only for the backfill for the injuries but for prep for the next three years. Wahab needs to work on the reach in fouls which are so unneeded from him when 25 feet from the basket. I suspect PE is on him hard on this.
Speaking of injuries, look what it has done for Mr. Blair. Last year and early this year consensus on this board was that he ride the pine. Well, the need for a "go to" and his stepped up PT has turned him in to a completely different player. Well done.
Terrell Allen was also not called on for much offense, but assists and ball protection, before the injuries. Well he has also stepped up big time to fill a void.
I've been watching the recruiting board closely and it appears to me we need to get a great defender to replace Moseley, and a PG as our number one needs looking ahead. A grad transfer or top notch JC guard would be nice along with MAM.
Finally, who can say enough about the coaching of PE. We did not know what we were getting and whether it would build or not, but things are sure looking up right now with all the distractions this year. If we can finish .500 in the Big East he should be in the hunt for COY.

Add to that Pickett only had one PF and the centers stayed in the game when Jordan explicitly called upon his team to get to the line.

Still hard to put into words what we saw yesterday. I was there for the Caprio OT game in 2014 and yesterday topped even that in terms of how unbelievable it was. Hinkle was packed to the brim and there's decidedly a new level of animosity between the two programs that we may have not seen in the early years of the new BE. Playing each time twice per season has definitely bred familiarity as well as contempt, and you could see that new hatred brewing on the court at the end of the game too. Have seen this in numerous games this year. It's good for the league.
Shout out to Ewing for managing minutes for a depleted roster and saving his timeouts to maximize rest. Thought he used Timmy and George exactly as he should have. He was masterful in switching between man and zone and even threw out the occasional press (forced a Butler timeout at halfcourt) to keep them off balance. Slowing down the game also allowed our guys to keep their legs till the end. Something to consider doing in upcoming games as well. Just a smart game from the staff all around.
Very happy for Pickett to bounce back with a strong game. Outside stroke looked confident, ran the floor for a key fast break late and got some key rebounds. Think he lucked out a few times going under on some screens which left Mcdermott open, but we were lucky Mcdermott was off all night from outside.
Others have already noted the offense early on worked a lot better relying on motion and guards taking open shots instead of pounding it down low at all costs. Think this needs to continue even after Yurt and Mac return. The guards were onions all game in terms of hitting big shots and taking care of the ball.
The softer hedge was also key. The Butler bigs did not do any damage rolling off the screen. If we give up mid range 2s, it's a win every time. Timmy was a bit late on a lot of his defensive possessions, but he did what he reasonably could on little experience in big spots.
Timmy's minutes from the time Q left with his 4th with 6 min remaining until Q reentered late were flat out enormous. I think it's still a risk to leave him overexposed for long periods of time, but I was ecstatic with the effort, especially on the offensive glass. Next step is to make sure he's not being too overzealous on the hedges. Still a lot of contact that he's going to draw whistles for.
Blair's 3 to answer Mcdermott's 3 was the play of the game. The roof was about to collapse on us but that was as big of a get off the mat moment as there's been all season.
Biggest win of the Ewing era, IMO. Know Nova was ranked higher when we beat them at home, but the sheer importance of this game for our NCAA hopes coupled with playing shorthanded in a hostile road environment makes this one tops for me. Congrats to the team and staff for a monumental effort yesterday.

Very disciplined--Mosely, Allen and Blair. When they did make a mistake, they knew it at once. One time Mosely even slapped the floor, bad hand and all.
