What I can say is that I am SO proud of these kids today. I hope they get a steak dinner in Indy before they fly home to DC. Beating a ranked team on the road with essentially five players is a remarkable achievement. My memory does not extend as long as some, but this is one of the toughest basketball teams I have ever seen. St Elmo steakhouse would be appropriate!

We did a real nice job on Baldwin. He is generally less effective when he has to play point guard, but in close games he often just takes over and goes iso over and over to win games for Butler. We were doing kind of a soft trap/Ice defense on a lot of ball screens up top. The big was not coming out nearly as hard as usual, but he stayed with Baldwin longer as the ball defender got through the pick. They looked like they were just trying to contain him far enough from the basket that he was unlikely to fire up a long 3. The help defenders tagged the roll man long enough to let the center get back into the lane.
Baldwin is not a particularly strong passer in the PnR. We gambled that he would not be able to see/execute the right pass out of this soft hedge/double team, and it generally worked. He usually just held the ball and reset the offense.
The zone also worked very well for a stretch late in the first half. Butler was just standing around and passing the ball around the perimeter until late in the shot clock. Tucker drilled a three vs. the zone, and Butler executed better against it in the second half. But the mixing of defenses worked well today, and was designed to try to take away Butler's biggest threat (Baldwin) as much as they could.
On Ighoefe - both the offensive boards/putbacks were great example of what a 7'10 wingspan can do. He just reached right up over the butler players to get the ball and finish. He could easily have come over the back of the Butler rebounders. But with his incredibly long arms, he could just reach up over them and grab the ball, without having to jump into the Butler players and risk picking up the foul.

Is there any way we can get Terrell Allen a completely unjustified 5th year?
Like could we destroy all recorded evidence of Drexel's 2015-2016 season somehow? I feel like we need to think outside the box here.

I feel like we need to think outside the box here. He’s a fun player to watch. And this team is my favorite in a long, long time. Probably since 2006-2008. That team was awesome, but in a different way. The guys we have now are doing “more with less” to a degree that’s unheard of. If you described today’s lineup situation to anyone back in November, I think we’d have assumed (1) a plague had befallen the team, and (2) we’d never win another game. True toughness from the men we have left.

I’m sorry this is a Tournament Team! 🤔😃 Don't be sorry for speaking the truth.

Pickett had a great rebound around the 2.5 minute mark. Seriously, it was his most important play of the year. Need more bodies... Absolutely. Went up over Nze to grab it. Big time effort.

Can't add too much to what has already been said. A team full of warriors. Every guy on the floor fought every second they were in there. Especially happy for Pickett, started slowly on offense but defended and rebounded well, then a couple of big shots plus a huge assist.

Given the circumstances that was probably the most impressive win I’ve seen in a long long time. These guys just kept making plays when they needed to. Everytime Butler cut into the lead someone stepped up and made a huge play. Just an unbelievable performance.
The one thing I do want to make note of is that the team as constituted since Mac has been out is mostly a veteran bunch. You’ve got 2 seniors and a junior at guard - all playing pretty much 40 mins a game, a junior at forward and when Yurt is healthy a 4th year junior at C (obviously today that was not the case). In the era of the one-and-done, I think it’s often overlooked how important veteran leadership and poise in crunch time are. With basically no margin for error, our 4 vets out there today played damn good defense against a very good team on their floor and didn’t even sniff foul trouble. Very very impressive performance. I’m downright giddy after that win.

You know what you are made of when adversity strikes. During crises, leaders either emerge or they don't emerge. This team is a prime example of the power of leadership during this most recent run.

I won't lie, I thought we had no chance of pulling this off. I can't remember the last time I've been so proud of a team. Incredible, amazing, phenomenal. Strong work by everyone, including Big Tim. And Terrell Allen has been nothing less than a Godsend. Every game may not be great (see 4-16), but where the heck would we be without him?
Now let's see if we can get revenge on Providence.

You can coach offense and defense, but you can't coach heart! In my 40- plus years as a Hoya fan, I have never been prouder of a Team's effort then I was today. Keep that junkyard dog hungry!

Now I know exactly poor I am at judging a team and its coaching staff. On the other thread I predicted, with Yurt and Mac missing, we would lose 77-58. And when my wife and I sat down to watch the game I told her we were going to get blown out. Later, as we sat down to dinner, I munched carefully on my words and, boy, did they taste good.
