Good game. Fun game. I think it's hilarious how the Ewing theory is coming through for this team. It wasn't against an elite opponent, but this team showed something. I'm still worried about the inbound plays (No screens? ) but overall, I thought this game went well. The guys have a very well earned week off. And George Muresan coming up clutch. The bailout cut to the ball, the ability to come in off the bench, playing no minutes and knock-in two game-winning free throws. Who would've thought? Ad Jahvon Blair came up huge. Great second half for our guys and DePaul being DePaul didn't hurt at all. Does the Ewing theory also mean be forced what you should have been doing all along and then credit for it? Can we call it the Ewing 2.0 theory?

Experience and chemistry! No balance; no depth. Let's see how far it gets us, but so far a lot of fun!

Scroll through the photos. I also really liked the one of George at the line.

Please explain the Ewing Theory. Also rewatching the game. Q's defense was the difference, Yurtz7 is too soft.

Yurt had some aggressive in traffic dunks ,just before he got hurt. He played well today.

Please explain the Ewing Theory. "There are two main tenets of the Ewing Theory: A team inexplicably plays better when their star player is injured or on the bench. A team reaches new heights immediately following the departure of a star player." - Source- The Ewing Theory Needs a New Name

I'm no doctor, but is anyone else confused by this? Seems like the two statements cannot both be true. Consider the source: he’s no doctor either. What the Tweet is missing in the quote from the presser is, "... but, we don't know."

So, yeah it's a pretty limited "theory" as much as many pounce on it.

Great gutty win today. I know its Depaul but the team was getting open shots, they just were not going down. If the Hoyas ever get hot as a team(Mac,Yurt7,Pickett and one of Allen, Moseley or Blair), they could cause some damage in the BE tournament and the NCAA.

0-7. Pickett just missed alley oop. Glad to see we're throwing all-oops!

Usually get 1-2 games a year to watch the Hoyas in person. Very happy that yesterday was the game this year. Maybe not the best basketball I've seen this year, but certainly the most satisfying given the effort from all the players. Really happy for Blair who has been the forgotten man for some time on this team and enjoy his development from last year. Most enjoyable was seeing the joy on the face of players and coaches after the game.
Won't bother reading through this game thread as I can imagine there are numerous comments reflecting the usual frustration, anger , exhilaration as the game progressed and individual players make plays or mistakes. However, the arena was alive at the end, the fans entertained and the outcome was earned by a ridiculously undermanned group who just do not quit. Go back and watch the game in the last minute and focus on the players on the bench--who to a man are cheering for their teammates in way I did not see last year when there was always someone pouting or detached from the game.
Finally, I know that it is easy to dismiss this win as just being against DePaul and have to admit that this is one of the most disappointing teams in the nation right now, but this team is very talented and capable of beating anyone in the Big East. I would not underestimate the quality of the players just because the results have not matched expectations.

One thing that I think goes under the radar as part of the comeback was how big the 5-0 mini-run (all within 30 secs) to end the half was. Cutting the deficit to a manageable 6 was huge. With 60 secs to play, DePaul had stretched it back to 11 and it looked like we were losing touch.
Usually end of half play has been a weakness, but yesterday I thought this sequence was massively important for the eventual comeback.

I feel like this thread is a test to find the most synonyms for "guts". This team is giving everything it has and it's been fun to root for them. Hope they can keep momentum and earn a bid because these 7 guys deserve it.
For Blair, it's less about the 3 pt shooting (which was great) but more about the ability to improve his dribbling and be herky-jerky just enough to draw fouls and make mid range floaters. Obviously we're in the thick of it for this year, but this burst has me thinking about next year. Can Mac and Blair be a backcourt together? Feels like a stretch but maybe.
Credit to Ewing for going with the twin towers lineup the second that Paul Reed went to the bench. DePaul didn't have a backup PF to make us pay so it was smart to rest Pickett and play Wahab / Yurt7 together.
Pickett basically didn't give Ewing a choice in that regard. He was absolutely lost. No rhythm on his jumper, could tell he didn't want to take any more. Will absolutely give him credit for some clutch rebounding down the stretch and the 3 he hit at the end was huge.
While Ewing is showing more variability with defensive schemes, I just can't stand the hard hedge and he's showing no variability within his man defense. Charlie Moore is a 30% 3pt shooter and Butz is not a pick and pop threat. The hard hedge let Moore split too easily. He also rejected the screen a few times so there's no help in that situation. And he was quick enough that he was able to beat the guard going under to the other side of the screen and still drive to the hoop. Butz was also able to slip a screen because Yurt7 was anticipating so out too high. Yurt7 injury forced us to play zone which was a smarter decision than continuing to play man that way.
Great defensive performance by Wahab. The blocks have been more helpside and it will make players think twice about driving. Butz was able to bully into him for an and-1 but that's where the strength he'll add over offseason will be critical. Sky is the limit for him
Why in the world would Blair double Butz in the post to leave a 3 pt shooter on the perimeter? It's those little mistakes and attention to detail that continue to plague the defense.
Very happy that George had his moment and delivered. The broadcast showed his dad in the stands and you could tell he was a little emotional. Great moment.
The week off comes at a great time for Yurt7 but "bad" ankle sprains usually are a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed.

Although not happy with the won/loss record this team is so much fun to watch. Think back to earlier this year when Blair was given up for a lost cause. What a turnaround with the opportunity given. And what a way to step up.
The experience Wahab is getting is going to pay in spades in years to come. He is warming up the Big East BB. Early on he was a half step slow and always in quick foul trouble. Now he is able to stay on the court longer and his defense has been great. His offense is stepping up as well. Speaks of building confidence. I guess we can thank Yurtseven for providing that slow easement for Wahab into the league. In spurts, Yurt7 looks great on offense and then he goes cold. His defense for a 7 footer is very soft. I am hoping to see Wahab get more and more PT and especially at the end in the BEAST tourney. It will serve him well.
So now, where we wind up comes down to where we are with the injuries to Mac and Yurt. For a run before the tourney we need both. Is there any word on the extent of Yurt's injury. As all players react differently to injury, I cannot go alone on the way he hobbled with assistance into the locker room with 11 minutes left. But what a comeback without him.
As up and down as the season has been, we are sure getting our money's worth.
