Seton Hall is a potential 2 seed who had their star go for 34. Their PG have double digit assists. And their center with 7 blocks. Aka, they played well overall. And a 6 man rotation was in a 4 point game at the under 4. Ewing takes a lot of fair criticism both in-game and due to the current roster scenario, but he also deserves credit for getting every bit of juice out of this current group. Theyre coachable, not playing as much 'me' basketball, and are leaving everything they have on the court. I dont believe in moral victories. And 3-7 in conference doesnt cut it in any level. But if Pat could ever get the right talent mix (his responsibility obviously) then I have certainly seen signs of him having the chops to be a solid head coach. Agreed I think it's important to add (to my own post 🤣) that to me the next game is where Ewing has to get better. And obviously has that chance to. If the team plays like they did tonight, they almost assuredly beat DePaul. But weve all seen it before. Compete with a team punching above our weight class and then lay an egg versus a team on or below our level. The next step in Ewings growth as a coach is developing consistency out of the guys. As Pat likes to say, "our backs are against the wall". Come out and beat Depaul and the NCAA pulse continues to beat.

Mr. Patrick Aloysius Ewing is a DAMN GOOD COACH, there ain't no disputing the truth! If anyone feels differently then your not apart of the GU community and we don't need you in our HOOD!

Bummer. It was in range, but they were looking a bit dead after their pushes. Deeply proud of each and every one of these players and the coaches. They are giving their all and making tough games against solid teams. Absolutely! They gave it their all, every one of them. Tough!

The effort was there. For the most part, I thought our guys battled all night. They could have easily folded after the early blitz but put some serious game pressure on SHU.
I thought for the most part the staff had a good plan and did what they could. Mixed up defenses based on SHU personnel and showed a lot of different looks. Threw off SHU a little bit but the Pirates are well schooled on how to adjust quickly to shifting defenses, and it showed. We had them a little off balance but it never felt like they were thoroughly confused like SJU.
It's been beaten to death, but the glaring difference was hitting wide open 3s. They did and we couldn't. At this point, if you're playing against the Hoyas, who's the guy that you can't leave open from outside? We may have had anywhere from 8-10 wide open 3s missed tonight. Most of them came in the first half so I don't want to hear it was about legs. Hit even a third of them and they may have stolen this one.
Pickett's perimeter shot is completely broken right now. He has no confidence in it when open and when anyone is even within 3 steps of him, it's an immediate put the ball on the deck and try to drive it, usually with less than desirable results. The corner 3s especially are never even on line. Not sure if it can be fixed at this point, but between that and being a liability on the defensive end (Mamu was just killing him 1v1), that's the single biggest hole we have right now.
Believe we ended with 0 blocks tonight (at least I didn't see any). Yurt and Q did a very poor job deterring drivers today. Have to do a better job altering shots by smaller guys than they did tonight.
Tough loss but I'm OK with the result. Now just need to get the one we absolutely need vs. Depaul and it's 6 days to prepare against a Butler team we should have already beaten. Hope Mac can recover and provide some minutes soon.

Great effort, but you just have to show up and start these games on time mentally. The 16-0 hole was too much to overcome against this team.
I thought the offense generated good shots but the Hoyas just didn’t hit enough of them.
Blair couldn’t get his shot going which is going to happen.
Defense much better for most of the second half.
Tired guard legs at the end of the game led to a lot of shots short of the rim.
Yurtseven just has to be more confident and mix in some quick hitting drop steps. That will open up his favored shot arsenal - as it is now, he takes too long and is too easy to strip.

There were a lot of great plays and players tonight. Mosely has to get some sort of award for everything he is doing. Yurtseven has been changing his game up and is getting offensive putback on teammates misses against teams with bigs that were a huge challenge for him just weeks ago. Blair has drastically improved and is playing within himself.
But Pickett's defense tonight and quite a few times absolutely skying to get contested rebounds was deeply impressive. He had hustle and had a couple strong long rolling drives to the basket (one went and the other rimmed out and Yurt put it back for an and one), these long rolling drives were Pickett's achillies heel the early this year and the past two years. With all the running and hustle, I'm not surprised his 3s were a little off. Picket played with his strengths and added new twists to what he can do, but also was playing smarter.

GU took more free throws and more shots and committed fewer TOs. You can’t lose with those stats unless you just don’t shoot at all. I mean you just can’t lose that game. It’s almost inconceivable. We can’t shoot at all as a group, but I have totally had it with Pickett. The man is just an absolutely devastating underachiever. Maybe you should tryout for the team. I'm sure they can use an overachiever like yourself.

Just back from game. The atmosphere and crowd was good for a Wednesday, 830 game. I sat about 6 rows behind MAM and I think he enjoyed it. Here's hoping.

This was a lot like the last game where we got close to getting over the hump but kept blowing it. This is the difference between playing one of the worst teams in the Big East and the best. They didn't fold like St. John's did. Still like the shots we got. We have to make the open looks and they made some really tough shots. Agree 1000% Spot on. Ball movement has been tremendous the last 2 games without guys just looking for their own shot all the time. Defense is also looking much improved. Sadly, I'm guessing we will revert back to our old ways in a game or two and go back to getting blown out every night.

I am encouraged by how the team performed tonight despite the loss. I’ll admit that I didn’t see the beginning 16-0 blitz due to the FS1/FS2 thing, but the rest of the game the team fought, shared the ball and competed on both ends. I am especially encouraged by how the staff clearly learned from the first Seton Hall game and prepared the team for a different game plan. Yurt didn’t try to back down Gil, and instead the team moved the ball consistently. The end result is that Yurt ended up with more points and rebounds because he was available to fight for offensive rebounds and put backs. If we had just hit a few more threes we could have maybe drawn even. Oh well, Seton Hall is a good team and Powell a great player.

If we play with the effort and the intensity we did for the last 35 minutes of the game...we should have a chance to beat DePaul. Gotta bring it fellas. Showed a lot of grit tonight.

Yurt started slow but overall had a very good game. Pickett really let me down, I thought he'd bring it tonight. Allen carried us for a stretch. Blair with another solid scoring night, had a rough time shooting it but got to the line a bunch and still scored 18. If Pat won't start him when Mac comes back, he needs to find a way to get him 30 plus minutes every night off the bench. The ball movement and defense is much better with him out there. Give him more of Mac and Pickett's minutes please.

Didn’t see much of the game except bits and pieces on my phone. Looked like the Xavier game - Got way behind early and could never get within a possession after that.
After looking at the box score, it’s easy to see we’re not going to win many games when:
- Allen takes the most shots on the team (17) - Your two starting guards play 79 of 80 possible minutes and shoot 8 for 33 - As a team you shoot 4 for 21 from three

Missed some open shots because of tired legs. There's nothing really to get mad about aside from the start time. Playing a team that talented with six guys and going in a hole, the guys fought hard. Just couldn't break the 4/5/7 point hump ever. There's nothing to get mad about. It just didn't go our way. Seton Hall's a great team. Powell was left open a few times, but he's Myles Powell, he's going to get those looks. Ewing did everything I asked for after the Markus Howard game. Give him different looks and make him beat each one. I would've liked more blitzing the screen and doubling, but the defense on him was fine. He just made tough plays. Tired legs affected shots. Just couldn't buy one from deep. Needed a better start in this one, instead, it was too much on the comeback. Ewing having to use two timeouts early really killed this team, on top of the rough start. It just happens. Keep the same intensity and hope Mac gets back in the next one. Blair needs to continue to be aggressive. Having multiple guys who aren't afraid to pull from deep, or take it to the cup and finish is something this team needs. We all want Pickett to do that, but maybe that's Blair's new role.
