I went back and checked out the highlights on YouTube of Whitney Young vs Mt. Vernon. Wow, did Beard look GREAT in that game. What didn't he display? Explosive, exciting leaping ability. Talented enough to make quick, on the money bounce passes while on the drive to teammates for scores. Skilled enough to make full court passes to teammates for the score. The quickness to make baseline drives and finish off with excellent footwork for buckets. Great decision making. A nice looking stroke on his outside shot. Scoring on postups in the paint. Grabbing rebounds against bigger guys. A burst of acceleration to create distance. He showed it all. Obviously its one game and the editing means there were moments cut out in which he probably did bad things on the floor. If he played like that all the time in high school he would be a top 25 recruit. So obviously he isn't at that level....yet. But he SCREAMS big time potential because he has all the tools. He's wiry and needs to get a lot stronger of course. I've read in the past that his weakness may be his outside shooting but if that prep event he participated a month or so back is any indication he may be dangerous on that front now tool. What a really intriguing prospect. From what I recall, his recruiting brand took a hit when he struggled to adapt playing with DJ Seward, a 5 star committed to Duke, who arrived at his school after transferring from Fenwick. He might have just lost momentum in his play for a bit. I think he has the goods.

I guess Barnette is not wrong by tweeting this is a "good sign" but someone needs to tell me what exactly were the bad signs out there that kept making Hoya Twitter Nation fret about Beard over the last three months.

MCI there weren't any bad signs but it's always a good sign when the recruit who chose to prep a year over enrolling is showing excitement over a future teammate. The kid's stock is constantly improving and any chance for bluebloods to get involved they will come sniffing. So I want to continue seeing Tyler talk up all things GTown b-ball....

Zeke, I could better understand that viewpoint if Tyler had shot up to a near five star recruit and college coaches were able to travel normally to scout players in person. But the latter isn't happening at this point and Tyler still remains ranked as a three-star by most. But we can agree that it is nice to see him positively respond to news about other Georgetown recruits.

I think the prep year made some nervous that it was to showcase himself to a "currently more successful school".
But he seems quite committed to Georgetown. And the additions of Riley, Billingsley, Mutombo (and with Qudus, Sibley, Carey here next year) is a nice looking core moving into next season. Getting Aminu would be the icing on the cake. I would expect Riley goes SG, and Aminu (if he commits) goes SF, leaving Tyler a wide open spot to take the starting PG spot. But he'd also be able to showcase himself as a 2 as well, as Riley-Mohammed-Carey-D.Harris are all capable of bringing the ball up.
I think we know Riley and Mohammed are pretty special, but Beard may be the X factor for this team. He plays with a lot of confidence, and can score inside and out. From the footage I've seen, I can't believe he's rated only as a 3 star prospect. He's easily a 4 IMO. Same goes with Riley --- Georgetown's 2021 class is better than it looks on paper.

Yes a scrimmage. Cam Carter was the opposing guard, took a minute to recognize him. Was it ever reported that he was transferring?...he holds an offer from us.

Beard signed his LOI today. I for one am relieved. Was skeptical when he reclassified, but I guess shame on me for not taking him at his word. Welcome aboard.

I am really happy that he signed his LOI. When he reclassified to take a prep year, I was concerned he might re-open his recruitment, but in fairness to the young man, he said from the beginning he was committed and he has now made it official. I have high hopes that Tyler will be a Hoya fan favorite for many years.
