Beard, a 6'3" guard, had a tremendous high school career before coming to Hargrave. Since he's been on campus, he's been an incredible leader on and off the floor. Beard is an outstanding worker in all facets of Hargrave's daily structure between academics, spiritual growth, character development, and of course, athletics. Well-liked by his teammates, Beard is putting up some impressive numbers early on this season, averaging 14.0 points per game, 5.3 assists per game, and he's shooting an impressive 91% from the foul line for the Tigers. From Head Coach, Thomas Messinger, "Tyler is a first-class young man and I'm thrilled that he's heading up the road to Georgetown to continue his career! I've enjoyed getting to know Tyler and his family and I believe he is set up for success in the Big East and I know that Georgetown is excited to get him on campus. Tyler has an unreal work ethic and he's a natural leader. His teammates are willing to run through a wall for him and I'm looking forward to Tyler's continued growth this year. Georgetown's getting a great young man in this year's recruiting class!"

19-6assts and a poster for Beard What’s your take on how he’s progressing? This was his best performance of the year imo. He’s still not a ft pg but makes pg plays similar to Jagan. Similar to Jagan I see him more of a helper than a primary scorer in terms of impact. That being said he’s better off the bounce than JM, has shown more of an ability to create for others off penetration, and has a better pull up game so probably a higher upside offensively. The defense isn’t as good though. The competition has been light so sometimes you can see him and his teammates going for the spectacular play vs the correct one. In this game he generally just made the right plays and scored very efficiently. He looked more settled in this game than others I’ve seen which could be a result of him getting more comfortable with his new teammates and roles being more clearly defined.

Sounds like a great four-year college player in the making... with his work ethic, he will be a fan favorite and a leader (hopefully)...

Especially if he can take care of the ball.

He's has a very good chance at starting for us next year. I agree. As the roster is currently constructed the Hoyas are going to need someone in the back court that take control of the point guard position and add some level of offense to the team. I like Dante and some of what he has shown, but until he shows he can make open shots, he is not going to be any more than a back up getting limited minutes. Carey is a shooter and I think he will continue to improve this season, but he has not shown me that he can run a team or create his own offense off the dribble. If they can not land Aminu, they really need to focus on someone who can add scoring from the point guard position.

A future backcourt of Beard, Riley and Aminu would be very dynamic and super competitive...

A future backcourt of Beard, Riley and Aminu would be very dynamic and super competitive... No doubt that those 3 guys will/would increase the talent level, and I am really high on Riley and hopeful Aminu becomes a Hoya. I look at both Riley and Aminu as wing players and not really guys who can/will facilitate for others. I do think they need someone who can take control of that PG position and become the unquestioned leader of the team. Both of the Harris guys this year have some skills but I don't see either as the answer at PG for the team/program at this point. I have heard Beard can play PG, but is more of a combo guard, but hopefully he is that lead guard the program needs or they can find someone else to fill that role. High quality and dependable decision making at the point guard position is vital for good teams. They don't need to be your leading scorer all the time, but the other team needs to respect the fact that they can score, in addition to making their teammates better.

18pts 4 assts 6-12 Another solid performance. He’s getting comfortable. Also increasingly looking more natural as a distributor this season, which is the most important thing I wanted to see from him during his prep year.

About 17-6 today. Has been playing really well lately. Taking good shots, very unselfish, and generally making the correct play on offense.

Does anyone know if Tyler is the primary ball handler and PG?
The rebounding is impressive (and somewhat surprising).
