There were tweets or retweets by his mother and other family members this week that seemed to be affirming the Hoya connection with Tyler is still strong.

I completely agree...way too premature to make drastic, baseless assumptions. Drumming up negative vibes do not help anything. I am pretty sure that at some point this weekend on social media, I saw Beard posting something in response to a fan post expressing excitement about him coming to Georgetown next year. Beard's post was something like "this is just the beginning". This seemed like a positive indication that he is still planning on coming to Georgetown. I searched around Twitter a bit to see if I could find the exact post, but I could not track it down. But I definitely read something along these lines over the weekend. So there is at least a little bit of evidence that Beard is likely still on track to become a Hoya. His father posted "We just getting started!!!" and "We've been working!!!" in response to Hoya Optimista on Twitter. Maybe that is what you are thinking of?

Beard has nice pace (and change of pace) to his game. Look forward to rooting for this kid.

One of the things you guys have to say is that we have some very very athletic guards. This is something I haven't seen since Peak and before Peak we hadn't seen too many athletic guards. It seems that almost all our guards can play the point and the shooting guards positions and almost all of them are very athletic. I am speaking on the 20 and the 21 class. This is so refreshing.

McClung was super athletic. Maybe his Achilles heel was that he wasn't as good jumping off of one foot, he needed both feet to be in place for lift. And he doesn't have the height. Jagan was explosive as hell and provided the best dunks the team has seen in awhile over his last two seasons. His issue was that his handle was below average for a guard and that limited his ability to strike (with his height, athleticism, defensive ability and his outside shot he would be a legit NBA prospect if he had the type of handle that most BE level guards possess).
The new guys (Beard and Riley) have height, handle and explosive leaping ability. They look like they can shoot too. If they ever start in the same backcourt together they could potentially be the most athletic backcourt the Hoyas had since Iverson-Page.

These video clips demonstrate a very skilled player. I am very excited by Tyler and the other guards/wings we now have on the team, and those who have committed. We have a lot to look forward to! Keep it up coaches!!

And for people understandably preoccupied over rankings, since the days of Wade Marquette has been bringing in undervalued guards/wings who have gone on to NBA success. It's extremely possible, the rankings have never been an exact science.

Beard has a high ceiling the question is can PE & staff help him reach that ceiling...

Idk I think if Beard and Riley were able to play a full AAU season they would be ranked higher. Personally I expect there to be a lot of surprises in the ranking this year because of the limited summer evaluation period.

Great news!! He’d be coming in with a great class and would be an important part piece. "Great"? Calling it solid would be a stretch. Great is a comical misrepresentation. You know DePaul has four 4stars committed right? That's a great class.

I went back and checked out the highlights on YouTube of Whitney Young vs Mt. Vernon.
Wow, did Beard look GREAT in that game. What didn't he display?
Explosive, exciting leaping ability. Talented enough to make quick, on the money bounce passes while on the drive to teammates for scores. Skilled enough to make full court passes to teammates for the score. The quickness to make baseline drives and finish off with excellent footwork for buckets. Great decision making. A nice looking stroke on his outside shot. Scoring on postups in the paint. Grabbing rebounds against bigger guys. A burst of acceleration to create distance. He showed it all.
Obviously its one game and the editing means there were moments cut out in which he probably did bad things on the floor. If he played like that all the time in high school he would be a top 25 recruit. So obviously he isn't at that level....yet. But he SCREAMS big time potential because he has all the tools. He's wiry and needs to get a lot stronger of course. I've read in the past that his weakness may be his outside shooting but if that prep event he participated a month or so back is any indication he may be dangerous on that front now tool. What a really intriguing prospect.
