Gonzaga makes it three straight weeks at the top of the Associated Press Top 25, after victories at Portland (85-72) and against Pepperdine (75-70). Duke and Kansas maintained their respective positions at #2 and #3 as well; the Blue Devils won against Boston College, 88-49, and at Miami (Florida), 95-62), and the Jayhawks were victorious against then-#16 ranked West Virginia, 60-53. Baylor moved up two slots to #4 with wins against Jackson State, 83-57, and Texas, 59-44; Auburn moved up three spots to #5 after an 80-68 victory at Mississippi State.
Florida State made the largest climb in the AP Top 25, up eight slots to #10, after wins over Georgia Institute of Technology, 70-58, and at then-#7 ranked Louisville, 78-65. Memphis had the biggest drop this week, down twelve spots to #21 after defeating Tulane, 84-73, and losing to Georgia, 65-62. Iowa fell completely out of the rankings this week, after the then-#23 ranked Hawkeyes lost to then-#21 ranked Pennsylvania State, 89-86, at the Palestra in Philadelphia; returning to the AP Top 25 this week is Colorado, which is now ranked #25 after a win over then-#4 ranked Oregon, 84-65, and a loss to unranked Oregon State, 76-68.
There are, again, only two ranked Big East Conference teams this week. Butler advanced five slots to #6 after wins at St. John’s (60-58) and against Creighton (71-57), and Villanova fell six slots to #16 after defeating Xavier (68-62) and losing at Marquette (71-60). Four other Big East Conference schools (Seton Hall, Marquette, Xavier and Creighton) received votes in this week’s poll.
