Five-star wing Jahki Howard won’t sign a letter of intent until 2024, so predicting his landing spot now is a fool's errand. His offer list will evolve, schools that have offered could cool on him as a prospect, coaching changes will take place, the world could end … you get the point. Still, as things stand, it’s easy to get the sense that Texas holds a slight edge at this - admittedly early - juncture. I’ve spoken with the Donda Academy star in person twice in the past three months. Each time, I let him direct the conversation, and each time he steered it toward the Longhorns and the fact that he grew up rooting for the Longhorns and Kevin Durant. Ask which schools he wants to visit when it comes time? He only names Texas. Asked which program is most intriguing to him? He says the Longhorns. This certainly seems like more than a passing interest. That said, there are juggernauts lying in the weeds. On Saturday, Howard said he’s been in preliminary contact with Kentucky and has spoken with Wildcat assistant Orlando Antigua, with whom he feels a connection. UK has yet to offer, as the program doesn’t typically pull the trigger this early, but the building blocks for such a thing seem to be being laid. That’s all to say there are plenty of potential obstacles for the Longhorns to overcome, even if they’ve positioned themselves well in the race’s first leg. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/florida-man-five-star-jahki-howard-miami-2022-guard-rj-luis“The recruitment process has been going well,” he said. ”A lot of these colleges like my athleticism and activity on defense. I have a lot of schools who are in touch with me. I spoke with Kentucky recently. I'm in communication with Duke and just got offered by Kansas. It's always good knowing the big schools are recruiting me like the blue bloods.” In terms of whether Howard will end up going to college or the professional route, he is leaving all options on the table. “It really all depends on the next couple years of high school but I can go either way to be honest,” he said. “College, overseas, and the G league are all options for me. If I do go to school, I want a program that can fit me and let me rock out and do what I want and what I love. I want to play with other players that are on my standards and get me better and want to win.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Basketball-recruiting-Jahki-Howard-Kansas-Duke-Kentucky-247Sports--180537755/ON SCHOOLS IN THE MIX “Texas for sure. They’ve been in the mix. Then, I talk to Kentucky a lot. Florida State, too.” ON TEXAS “You know I’ve always loved Texas. I love Texas because [Kevin Duant] went there, and KD is my favorite player.” ON EVENTUAL VISITS “Obviously it’s early but I want to check out lots of places. Texas for sure but also Kentucky and Florida State.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/five-star-jahki-howard-talks-texas-kentucky-florida-state

The Washington D.C. metro area continues to be an area of focus for the Indiana staff led by assistant coach Kenya Hunter. One of the more recent players from the DMV to receive an offer from the Hoosiers is 2024 top-40 forward Khani Rooths his AAU program confirmed with The Daily Hoosier. Rooths attends Georgetown Prep in Bethesda, Md. For AAU basketball he is part of the Adidas aligned New World program in the Washington D.C. metro area. He was ranked No. 32 overall in the class in Rivals’ first 2024 top-40 rankings. Indiana joins Georgetown, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Xavier as schools who have offered Rooths so far. www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-hoosiers-offer-2024-maryland-based-combo-forward-khani-rooths/With it being my first time getting to see the class of 2024 wing Khani Rooths, there was a lot to like in his game. Rooths is a legit 6-foot-7 wing who gets to his spots very well offensively and is a good mid range shooter. He is also an excellent rebounder which gets him easy points around the rim. He has a decent frame for his age but his combined length and athleticism helps him get around defenders and finish around the rim. Defensively he moves his feet very well guarding guards and can take contact from bigs. It wasn't Rooths’ best game offensively but his physical tools and upside are very high making him a name to keep an eye on in the 2024 class. He has offers so far from Georgetown, Maryland, George Mason, Indiana and Virginia Tech. 247sports.com/college/tennessee/Article/Basketball-recruiting-Cam-Whitmore-Khani-Rhoots-Daquan-Davis-Bryce-Lindsay-247Sports-180885309/

Its still very early in Davis’ recruitment as he is only a sophomore but he holds early offers from South Alabama, Howard and Siena with interest from Georgetown. He has not taken any visits as of yet. “I feel like I'm a guard that can knock down open shots when needed, pass, and lock a defender down,” he said. “Right now I'm working on my pace. Just being able to slow the game down and control the game more.” St. Frances’ head coach Nick Myles spoke on his point guard’s play this season. “Daquan has been great for us,” he said. “He's been consistent, a dog defensively and you know what you're going to get from him every night. Its effort, relentlessness and the will to win.” “He's really developed this year. His jump shot, his playmaking, and leadership got a lot better so he's definitely going in the right direction.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Basketball-recruiting-Daquan-Davis-Georgetown-St-Frances-247Sports-180965280/

Rooths stands at 6-foot-7 with great length and athleticism. 247Sports was on hand to watch him on Monday where he excelled in the mid range, and showed defensive versatility guarding one through the five. Rooths has a lot of upside and schools have started to notice with early offers from Georgetown, Maryland, George Mason, Indiana and Virginia Tech. He has taken unofficals to Villanova, Maryland and Georgetown. Georgetown: “They have a big reputation behind them with coach Ewing being the head coach. He's a good coach. I met him in person a few times. It's a great program. I took an unofficial and it was really cool. I watched them practice and had a long meeting with coach Ewing and the staff, so it was cool.” Maryland: “They have a great campus and I took an unofficial there. After the visit I actually watched the football game there. It was cool. I like the community they have around there. I feel like it's a good fit and good school.” Indiana: “Indiana is a blue blood. Right now I don't really know too much about them. I haven't been there so I have a lot to learn about Indiana. I want to see their culture, see how they play, meet the coach in person, and see how he talks to his players.” Virginia Tech: “Mike Jones went there who’s the former Dematha Coach so I've watched him coach a lot. They wouldn't be a bad choice.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Basketball-recruiting-Khani-Rooths-Georgetown-Indiana-Maryland-Virginia-Tech--180965662/

One of the top power forwards in the class of 2024, Derek Queen has seen scholarship offers arrive early. Playing this season at Florida’s famed Montverde Academy has further increased his exposure, and additional college coaches are beginning to kick the tires on this recruitment. ON HIS CURRENT OFFERS “Maryland, DePaul, Alabama, Georgetown and I can't even remember the others right now.” ON MARYLAND “I’ve been to Maryland for some basketball games, but I don't really know a lot about the school or anything yet. Danny Manning, he just got the [interim] job. He came to a lot of my AAU games.” ON DANNY MANNING “I know he did well at Wake Forest and I know he went to the league.” ON POSSIBLE FUTURE VISITS “Texas and Indiana, maybe. Texas has talked to me more but I have [teammates Texas signee] Dillon [Mitchell] and [Indiana signee] Jalen [Hood-Schifino] talking to me about those a lot obviously." RIVALS' REACTION Queen is originally from the Baltimore area, so the fact that schools such as Maryland and Georgetown are making early pushes is no surprise. Whether or not either school will be around for the long haul is anyone’s guess, especially when it comes to Maryland, which remains in the market for a head coach. Still, the two programs are in as good a position as any at this juncture. Queen’s recruitment is in its early stages and will change significantly in the year ahead. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/2024-pf-derek-queen-in-touch-with-a-number-of-programs

Within just a few months of arriving in the U.S., Cyril made a name for himself playing with EAB Tennessee on the Adidas 3SSB circuit. This past summer, Cyril received offers from Memphis, Florida, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. The success continued as Somto began his sophomore year, scoring offers from Kansas and Georgetown.
