Camps like Pangos will always favor guards because they have the ball in their hands and there aren’t exactly a lot of plays being run. Sometimes that leads to big games that are the result of a lot of, well let’s call it “freedom” when it comes to shot selection. Four-star combo guard Marvel Allen had a big night to open camp, but it wasn’t due to jacking up shots or gunning, it came from taking the open shots available to him – often thanks to the smart passing of 2024 point guard Elliot Cadeau – and being aggressive to the rim when given the opportunity. Formerly committed to LSU, Allen is navigating through the recruiting process again. He took an April official visit to Georgetown and is now sorting through an avalanche of suitors. He told 247Sports that he’s likely looking at setting up visits with Michigan and Texas A&M next, but those things are fluid and he hasn’t locked anything in just yet. 247sports.com/LongFormArticle/Basketball-recruiting-Pangos-All-American-Camp-standouts-188413516/#188413516_1

What he did: Miranda may not be a perfect player, but the 7-footer continues to take strides from a skill standpoint and is looking more like one of the better bigs in the class. His shooting stroke from deep isn’t aesthetically pleasing, but it’s becoming more effective without question. On Tuesday, he knocked down a handful of pull-up 3-pointers to go along with solid work on the defensive end, where he blocked and changed multiple shots. Miranda will take the next step when he begins to get more aggressive on the boards and the defensive end, but his well-rounded skill set is undeniable. Recruitment: USC seems to hold a slight edge in the race to land Miranda, but Connecticut and LSU are also involved. Kentucky has made preliminary contact but has not offered. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/cassidy-awards-pangos-all-american-camp-3Following a 24-point effort that featured three 3-pointers and a handful of blocks, 7-footer Isaiah Miranda said he intends to visit Georgetown during the upcoming weekend and add one more summer trip before shutting things down until next year. “I’ll probably do one more junior-year visit, but I don’t know which school,” Miranda said on Monday. “Right now I’m just ready to get to Georgetown and see it. I just want to learn about the campus and how they’ll utilize me.” Miranda, who looked as versatile as ever on Monday, named Connecticut, USC and LSU as schools heavily involved with his recruitment for the time being. He says a number of other programs have been in sporadic contact as well. “It’s up and down with a lot of other schools,” he said. “One week, I’ll hear from one set of schools. Next week, it’ll be different, so we’ll see.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/cassidy-s-takeaways-day-2-of-the-pangos-all-american-campA few of the top-ranked five men in the rising senior class were present for camp festivities. Each proved their worth throughout the weekend; however, none separated themselves with a level of productivity that made the conversation one that was clear and concise. If anything, a pair of bigs provided a stance on why their upside should be valued. If it were a question of who has the most to work with, Isaiah Miranda has the prototypical skillset that would thrive in the modern NBA game. For someone who stands tall as a footer with change, he possessed one of the prettiest jumpers in the entire camp. His release is soft and every attempt looks clean when coming off his hands. The ball skills are there but once the strength is added and his approach to the game evolves, we easily could be talking about a guy who moves into the top tier of the class. USC already has received an official visit and Georgetown is next in line for their own this week. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/LongFormArticle/Pangos-All-American-Xavier-Booker-Aden-Holloway-Sean-Stewart-KJ-Lewis-Yves-Missi-Elliot-Cadeau-188495915/#188495915_3

I’m surprised someone so old would still be a D1 prospect. Agreed - don't you have to be over 65 and grumpy at the world to live in the Villages?

Credit to Marvel Allen for playing through injury On3 Consensus No. 26 Marvel Allen was not close to 100% for the camp. It was obvious to anyone watching the 6-foot-4 strong-bodied guard was dealing with right knee soreness. Allen played through it, and made a number of plays setting up teammates for clean perimeter looks. Allen gets a big check in the competitive box from On3. www.on3.com/news/pangos-all-american-camp-takeaways/

Class of 2023 point guard Josh Hubbard was very consistent this past weekend for Team Thad. The Mississippi native averaged 16 points per game over a four game stretch, and many college coaches were sitting courtside throughout the course of the weekend. Programs involved: “Right now, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Houston, Georgetown, Seton Hall just offered today (Saturday), Jackson State, and Mississippi Valley State.” Georgetown: “The old coach at LSU, he went to Georgetown. He told coach (Patrick) Ewing about me and they came to a game in the first session in Orlando and liked what they saw.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/josh-hubbard-s-recruitment-expanding-beyond-southeast-regionMR. PRODUCTIVE: Josh Hubbard What he did: Hubbard doesn’t pack the elite measurables as other guards and his lack of length will always hold him back a bit from a recruiting standpoint, but it’s becoming impossible to argue with the 5-foot-11 prospect’s production. The 3,000-point high school scorer was at it again this weekend, going off for 24 points in a high-level game against Team Trae Young and helping lead his Team Thad squad to an undefeated weekend. Hubbard showed off his stroke from deep for the event’s entirety and also showed off a combination of explosiveness and body control that allowed him to get to the rim and finish through much larger defenders. Recruitment: The Mississippi-based guard holds offers from Seton Hall, Georgetown, Kansas State, Houston, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and others. He plans to make a verbal commitment in September. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/cassidy-awards-duel-in-dfwHubbard has taken official visits to LSU (old staff) and Ole Miss and has been to Houston and Mississippi State unoficially. He'll be back at MSU for an official visit next week. More than likely, Hubbard's recruitment is going to end up a showdown between the two in state programs. He's even got a decision date in mind so the battle is on for the next few months. "I've chosen a date of September 22nd so pretty soon but not too far away," said Hubbard. "There's not really any significance to the date I just wanted to set something so I would do it before the season. I'll look at their playing style and if I will fit in because I want to play fast and physical. The culture of the program and the coaching staff will be important. 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/College-basketball-recruiting-Josh-Hubbard-Ole-Miss-Mississippi-State-188558142/

I know the sigh comes from Hilltop Hoops, not hoyaboya. Just wondering if anyone can explain why the sigh? Surely GU has signed more Cali than Massachusetts players over the years.

In general, it's not a good sign when a player you're interested moves away from GU's general direction to play his senior/prep season. In this case - where USC has been increasingly seen as the leader - it's a virtual death knell to our chances. Also - he was supposed to be visiting us this week. If that's not happening over the weekend here... it's another reason this one's probably wrapped for us.

UCLA men's basketball sent a scholarship offer to class of 2023 center Isaiah Miranda, the big man announced Thursday on Twitter. The Commonwealth Academy (MA) product's offer came right after he came to Westwood for an unofficial visit Wednesday. Miranda already came out West earlier in 2022, visiting USC for a game in February. Two days after visiting UCLA, Miranda was back on the East Coast for an official visit to Georgetown. Over the previous few months, he also stopped by UConn, Kentucky and Providence. www.si.com/college/ucla/mens-basketball/isaiah-miranda-picks-up-offer-from-ucla-mens-basketball-after-visit

Former LSU commit and top 50 combo guard Marvel Allen is looking to set up the rest of his official visits. “I’m really trying to dig deep and see what schools I’m really liking and I’ll probably make a decision around the end of the summer.” “I’m looking to schedule my last two visits and that’ll be either between Michigan, Texas A&M, FSU or Texas.” “It’s been equal with the schools who are recruiting me right now. It’s going to come down to who’s pushing the edge the most and trying to get me up there consistently.” “I wouldn’t give it a time limit, if I feel like it’s right I’ll commit right there and then. I’m looking for fit, playing time as a freshman and development.” 247sports.com/college/basketball/recruiting/Article/Basketball-recruiting-Michigan-Texas-Florida-State-188765063/
