Stated tuition, room and board $77,000 per year. But some say only about 25% pay it. Don't accuse me of bias when I ask who pays the other 75%? Agents? Shoe companies? Who? I assume high schools like this recruit at some level - do they not give out athletic scholarships (which would be subsidized by those students who pay)? Presumably sponsorships as well, but I'm sure others are a lot more familiar with this then I am. i assume its donations from former graduates and pro athletes. IMG Academy started off as a Tennis school. They have expanded out over the years to do all sports. they have a huge list of Pro football, basketball, baseball, and Tennis pros. I'm sure they can get a big enough endowment from them.

I'm sure they can get a big enough endowment from them. They also make a lot of money on Summer youth camps. I know a family who sent their 11 year old son for a week of baseball training at IMG. It was an absurd amount of money (many thousands for 1 week), especially for an 11 year old! The kid was physically gifted, but would headcase (especially on the mound). IMG was supposed to help him with that. IMG even had him hooked up to monitors during pitching. Came back from camp, and still headcased. The father said he wished he did not spend all that money, because it did not help at all. The whole thing was kind of silly, if you ask me. But, the parents have a lot of money. I imagine there are a lot of wealthy people willing to send their kids to a week-long camp for thousands of dollars to give their kids an advantage.

Not sure how this topic is relevant to anything and if this recruit is reading (which he and his family may very well) I am sure this only hurts our chances.

I am sure he is attending on an athletic scholarship, which many. many prep schools offer. I had a nephew who attended a very exclusive prep school for a post grad year and he had a full scholarship to play hockey, along with about a dozen other players on the team. It is commonplace for these schools to offer these scholarships as an incentive for high level athletes to attend. Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Omg make it stop...
This is totally normal and the speculation is totally unnecessary. No reason to jump from thread to thread asking the same question.

I apologize for bringing this up in this thread as my question has nothing to do with Efton. It has to do with the place of prep schools in the area of college athletics. Knowing something about what goes on in college recruiting and the part that agents and shoe companies play in that makes me suspicious that something similar might be going on re prep schools. Maybe I am wrong but that sort of money doesn't usually appear out of the goodness of people's hearts. If you think my suspicions are unfounded, that's okay. As I said I could be wrong.

I wonder if the Reid family can't afford the tuition even with some financial aid whether they are able to procure a loan based upon Mr. Reid's potential future earning capacity? [FWIW, I don't think Ed's question is so far out of bounds]. At this time, IMG Academy does not offer scholarships. We do have a limited amount of financial aid available. Recipients are selected based on an academic, athletic, character and financial review. For more information, please reference our admissions page. www.imgacademy.com/boarding-school/academics/tuitionIf you guys think it's of value to discuss if "agents" are paying for Beard or Efton Reid to attend prep school then start a new thread on it and stop polluting every individual recruits page with it. We have kids on our current roster that went to prep. We've had multiple kids over the years who have gone that route and many more that have gone to expensive private schools. Nobody has alleged any wrongdoing at all in any of those situations.

Agree wholeheartedly.
Ya boy—are we in play with Reid or has the ship sailed?
Thanks

Yet, who chastises me for making comments on two threads. Of course I am the first poster who discusses off thread subjects.

If you have a broader question of how prep schools receive funding it would be best to ask that question in a separate thread rather than pollute every thread with the same insinuation. Friends, family members, and people close to these recruits sometimes read these threads and this stuff is not helpful.

6. GEORGETOWN
The lone Big East program under consideration at this time for Reid, the Hoyas have intrigued him enough to give Georgetown a chance. Of course, the idea of playing for one of the best big men that the game has ever seen in Patrick Ewing does not hurt, nor does the fact that the Hilltop is located less than a two-hour drive from his home and boosts the proper academic workload that Reid and his family may be looking for at the next level. The Hoyas have much more work to complete if they want to feel safe regarding where they sit with Reid but they are one to monitor as things begin to speed up.

I think the bottom 3 have a better shot then the top 3 i agree...i still like our chances here as well...especially RyanM is hesitate on following the footsteps of his dad. Hopefully the staff continues to push...theyve shown the effort that they want him.
