Since we are winning our first game in the BET, I’d rather it be against Seton Hall to bolster the resume.
Our freshman guards cower from no one.

Perhaps a research topic for DFW - has there ever been a BE tournament where no teams were ranked in the Top 25? 1981. The poll was just a Top 20 at that time.

I do think our young guys play better when there is some juice in the building and the spotlight is on. That would make the 930pm game my choice. Besides, over the past several years, I have become used to wanting to avoid Xavier, always.

Last Saturday’s win over Seton Hall was like open heart surgery. Way worse than today. I said then that I really hope we don’t see them again. Not because we can’t beat them but I just cannot take another game like that lol.
Of course we draw them on Thursday. Kill me.

I personally like the Seton Hall matchup. They may well have the best at large resume after Villanova and Marquette. It'd be great to beat them a second time. I also view is as playing with house money at this point. The NCAA Tournament is a long shot unless we win the automatic bid. We have done as well as I really thought we could this year. I'm just looking forward to not having to play on opening night.

Love that we draw SHU right after we have to defend Howard. I know that they are not the same player but on the defensive end we have a very recent data point re how to defend a bucket filler guard.

I agree. I like the Seton Hall matchup more than Xavier for a few reasons:
1.) 9:30 start means I have chance to go 2.) A potential win over them is a “better” win 3.) Much rather play the MU/SJ winner than Nova if we are to win 4.) I’d rather us be the underdog and not expected to win 5.) For a team that struggles to maintain energy the later game bodes well. 2:30 is a tough time to play during the week and the crowd with Xavier fans wouldn’t be the same as the prime time crowd with SH fans.

I'm just glad we won't play Creighton unless it's for the championship. That team is a matchup nightmare for us and peaking at the right time

I think Nova is the biggest winner today with how all the results panned out.
They avoid us, Seton Hall, St. John’s, and Marquette until the final.
PC/Butler and Xavier/Creighton, while not a lock, is about as easy a path as anyone could have in the conference this year.

Seton hall is a tough out but if you've been to the tournament over the years, the 3/6 game always has some strange twists and turns. With a likely evening pair of St. John's, Marquette, Georgetown, and the Hall, expect a big crowd. (If St. John's somehow tumbles versus DePaul on Wednesday, Mullin will hear it; conversely, SJ swept Marquette in the regular season.)
On the other side of the bracker, Villanova catches a sizeable break and should go right to Saturday.

Nothing will be easy, and Seton Hall comes in on a high. But I think Xavier, Creighton and DePaul are lousy matchups for us. Physically, we can match up with Seton Hall, St. John’s and Marquette. Doesn’t mean we’ll beat them, but I’m saying there’s a chance. And bypassing Wednesday is a big step forward. Goal #1 has been reached.

Fun anomalous historical fact from the ‘81 tournament (which of course DFW knows but others might not). Syracuse won that tournament in the Carrier Dome in triple OT/beat Nova (I think)/huge win for them/players carried off court by fans had yada yada. And the next day HOYAS get a bid to tourney and the Orangemen get squadoosh (because conference had not yet completed two years of play the Big East did not get an automatic bid). The howls from upstate were delicious...

And I don't care anyway - we have mostly been great on the road. We just beat Marquette on Senior Day when they could have had part on of the reg season championship .

Georgetown is undefeated in MSG this year. Seton Hall isn't a great matchup and a hot Myles Powell is not a good matchup for anyone. Akinjo gets McKnight again, but I dislike the matchup. They're a gritty team, just need to hit shots and they are beatable. Could be below 50 in the NET making this a q1 game, which would only help. If Powell isn't able to score, then we can beat them. Hopefully, Mosely is ready for the challenge again. With this team, I have no idea what to expect, just hope for a gritty, tough performance. Need one like today's.

Hard to remember a tournament this wide open -- Villanova and Marquette both seem beatable. I do think Villanova will hit its stride in New York -- their familiarity with the big stage will work in their favor. But this is still really anyone's tournament. DePaul is the 10 seed and won seven league games. Looking forward to our matchup Thursday night!

Hey, just to make things clear: for the Big East tourney, we are seeded 6th for bracket reasons. However, with our 9-9 record, we finished third, tied for third in the BE standings. Not bad after being picked 9th and 10th.
Also, with Marquette’s late season swoon, Big Pat might have a shot at a BE coach of the year

Playing well two games in a row will be a big step in the program’s development.
