And for old timers Lonnie Duren also in attendance and I believe I saw Eric Smith who's a pretty regular attendee. He was also at the St. John's game last week.

It was long over-due--coming out on the winning side of one of these duels! What depth, we have! What fearless warriors in Mac and Akinjo! I am just wondering where is the ceiling for this team? Just lovin' the ride! The ceiling is going to be defined by the defense, primarily Govan's defense. If he can play D like he did in the second half all the time, the ceiling is pretty promising. But since that was the best half of D he has ever played in a Hoya uniform, I'm not sure we can expect to see that all the time.

Not a peep. Nothing wrong with being critical, even negative if that is your thing. But if you run away and hide from your criticism after a win, it screams the fact that you just wanted us to lose to further your agenda. At the time of the post how happy were you about how the game was going? I think most posts made during games are the same as making comments while watching the game with buddies, calling folks out in hindsight is kinda weak in my view... Where are all the mea culpas by the folks who killed Govan early in the game or who continually say he's a net negative to the team? This is the original quote... "Poor game preparation and a mismatch on the sidelines between Cooley and Ewing makes this an uphill battle. " I am new to this, I don't know who you were referencing, but I have been super sensitive to criticisms of Coach, since he first walked onto campus as a freshman. I have felt that many of the attacks on him as a coach have been unjustified. I don't believe these losses have all been due to poor game prep. Sometimes the players don't run the plays that are called 😉. I have felt people have always questioned his intelligence, it won't be said directly, but code words. I know it's my problem. But someone said once, "It's not paranoia if it's true". I know, too sensitive right? I need to turn it down a notch.

If you read my post more closely, you will note that I had no problem with the critical posts. But a fan should not suddenly disappear when your team pulls off an incredible comeback win. Unless of course you are disappointed that they won. I read your post fine, I also noticed that you didn't answer my question... At the time the poster made the comment Gtown looked awful right? So why should he have to apologize or face a board flogging? As I stated earlier going back after the game to comments made in the heat of the battle comes off weak to me...

Did anyone who had criticized Govan for his defense early cone back and credit him for his effort and rebounding after halftime? Yes,a number of posters did. So now I have answered your questions. No one suggested madge should "apologize". But madge is consistently harping on Ewing's coaching, yet after we come back, we do not see a single post. Do you think that is a coincidence?

It’s great to win a game like that. During OT I commented to my wife about Govan defending well. I thought he did a good job, but so did Pickett and McClung, as well. Everyone had nice intensity in OT.
The single biggest thing Pickett could do to help himself further (aside from shooting better) would be to cut down on the turnovers, but I did think he defended well in OT.
I am glad Ewing put McClung in at the end of the game and in OT. I’m not sure whether that was because of Malinowksi fouling out but regardless it was a really good decision, so credit goes to Ewing for that.
There was plenty we did badly for much of the game, especially the first half, but for now I just want to enjoy the win.

As for Cooley and the fouling when up by three thing - I am sure Providence fans are irate (and I know Cooley said they were trying to foul McClung, at least) but analysis essentially shows that fouling or letting your opponent shoot is virtually a 50-50 situation with a slight edge to not fouling.
It didn’t work out tonight for Providence, but not fouling isn’t the type of mistake people claim it is (in my opinion not a mistake at all) especially when you’ve got 13-14 seconds left as we did.
I don’t know the exact odds, but the odds that Providence would choose to defend twice and lose the game like that in two overtimes is extremely low. I also note this because I’ve given Ewing flack for blowing games where we had high chances of winning. At the end of overtime Providence was nearly 99% to win and lost, and about 94% at the end of the second overtime to win, and we pulled it out anyway. So that’s a credit to Ewing and our players.

We got extremely lucky today and extremely unlucky against St Johns with the foul not being called on Blair. It happens in college with non pros and questionable officiating. But...having Mac affects both finishes. Mac doesn't lose that ball versus St Johns even getting killed. And yes Mac got lucky from 35 but he needs to be athletic enough not to be fouled and get that look in the first place. This conference is so tight you need to have all options available to give tiny edges in every game. You'll also get a ton of heartbreakers/miracles. It's fun, but also leads to a lot of hot take overreactions.

Looking at this again & knowing now that he wanted to foul, why did Cooley have barely 6 feet White guarding Mosely at the end line? Why not have him at half court playing the free safety role.. Doing that would have given them a much better chance to get the foul in...

Not having Akinjo in in the closing minute of the Johnnies game was horrible. Other than that, I think we're seeing a positive progression. We could be 4-0 in the BE and, IMO, one of those losses falls solidly on the players. Regardless, coaches down to the team, it's a team game. Everyone wins and everyone loses as a group. I haven't seen much to gripe about in comparison to where we were 2 years ago, especially considering the suspect nature (for some) of the hiring of Ewing in the first place. I think he's doing at least as well as we could have hoped from any other really good hire. And I wasn't psyched about the Ewing hiring. I thought it was a bad idea for Patrick and less so for Georgetown. Pat had more to lose. But this group is going in the right direction even if the execution isn't yet where I would like (is it ever?). The starting lineup stuck out to me for the first time today, somehow. Freshman, freshman, freshman, sophomore, senior. And we're expecting to win? Our starting PG just turned 18! Think about that for a second. Arguably one of the best freshmen in the BE and he, literally, just turned 18 2 months ago. That doesn't happen any longer. We're YOUNG. And that's GOOD. Get used to hearing, "Akinjo to LeBlanc for the flush" because it's going to happen A LOT. Who knew Carter may turn into a stretch 5? Anyone? His stroke looks great and I especially noticed his hustle to get back on D. Kid was sprinting every trip. I'm not clamoring for anything but I like that guy's "want to." Give me more of that. We have it in LeBlanc, Akinjo, McClung and, seemingly, Carter. I like this pattern a bunch. In a league with the parity of the BE, that makes as much of a difference as, nearly, anything else. Play harder and you win more. Remember when we questioned the effort nearly every game? We don't do that any longer. Part of that is the guys and part of that is the coaches. One other thing: I see you, Jamorko. He's working his ass off and I love that. He could have shrunk after the benching. He didn't. That dude has character. Couple that with some confidence and I'm going to be really excited for him. His road may not be the smoothest but I believe he's going to impress the crap out of his doubters before he's done. When McClung hit that shot, my old roommate was texting me. I texted to him that, if they pulled this game out that they badly needed that it could be a big turning point in their season. I believe that. After being down the majority of the game, at times by double digits, and pulling it out, this group should be feeling good about what they can do regardless of the score. We're a handful of games into the BE season and I see improvement from Akinjo, Mac, Pickett, Malinowski and Carter in-season. 5 guys moving in the right direction. And LeBlanc that surprises me every game (except for one) with his instincts on where to be. We whine a lot but that's not something we're used to seeing and, I believe, we should appreciate more. We could tank or we could make a lot of noise. The margin for error is small and there's a lot of parity. But I like this group of guys. I'm going to choose to try to be positive for a change (until I give up entirely ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ).

Wow, what a game. As I watched Providence, which shoots 68% from the line as a team, make 13 straight free throws, or hit three consecutive 3's in the first overtime, I kept thinking, it's a hex, and it's going to happen again. But we pulled it out. I thought we played really hard for the last 35 minutes. In the first half, we had no (0) individual offensive rebounds, but the effort in the second half and overtimes was much better. I think it's also worth noting that we cut way down on the turnovers over about the last 27 minutes. We had 12 a couple minutes into the second half, and only 5 after that. Props to Jessie, Pickett and the frosh.

Now this team knows it can WIN a close, hard fought game...can't put a price on that...it also learned how much effort it takes, and how hard you have to play...on both ends...rest, relax and get ready to go again...damn good job today... It was great to see the looks on the faces of the team, coaches and everyone as Mac hit that shot. It was electric...as the climaxing victory took place! That was worth a million bucks to see the joy on their faces. A super effort, a great team victory. Kudos!!!!

Hopefully we get Trey back so Jesse can play like this more often. We shouldn't be so ecstatic because our center did what he was suppose to do on the other end of the court.... At this point, I'd rather see Carter get more time than Trey... All things being equal, it's better to go with the youth... I'd love to see everyone chip in, we can use the help.
