6-1 onward to Liberty I say....it wasn't pretty but they made plays to secure the W

I think Govan, McClung, and Akinjo have the green light to shoot whenever they want. and at least one of them should. Not bad huh? At 33% that is bad odds.

I think that game was a great stepforward, and one of our best half-court offensive games. Great ball movement and passing. Defense needs quite a bit of work however. I agree, I thought we did very well finding seams and delivering the ball well in the post (missed 4 or 5 absolute bunnies, too). As guys get more and more experience together, I think the offense will click on a regular basis. But man oh man, are we going to have to figure out something on team defense.

The fact we’ve only beaten one team (1-6 UMES) by more than 8 points against this schedule is probably indicative that we aren’t capable of a complete game (yet) and frankly tells me we just aren’t that good. 6-1 is all good and well, but given all the new metrics use scoring margin and effeciency scores, we’ve got a lot of work to do before thinking postseason play. ![](https://i.imgflip.com/offsx.jpg)

We’ll see how things shape up over the course of the season, but Malonowski’s Making a play for more minutes, and seems to have absorbed much of Kaleb’s role from last year.

Just not sure how much this defense can be fixed -- not many good defenders. We have to keep improving on offense and try to win horseraces. There is a lineup that could be good defensively. If Pat actually played it extensive minutes most on here would lose their minds though. We have some "better" defensive lineups, but none of them would be good, unfortunately.

Final Thoughts: The defense is bad The offense is humming so far this season Govan had a monster night with 29 pts and the back court of Akinjo and Clung scored a combined 29pts Malinlowski and Leblanc combined for 17pts off the bench
Final Grade: C
The team won, but Richmond is without its top 2 scorers and shot over 50% from the field and over 45% from 3pt land. Ewing has 1 game to make tweaks to the defense before heading to Syracuse.

I’m just satisfied that for the Second game in a row we had less less than 10 turnovers. Bodes well for the future.

To me this team at present still feels like a bottom third team, in what is a down year for the league. I hope I am pleasantly surprised and our defense improves, but the games after the Illinois win have left me feeling less optimistic than I was that night. We are young and growth will happen over time, but it just feels like we are nothing more than 6-7 win team in conference. But that’s why they play the games and don’t decide them in November...

I am more convinced than before that you cannot play Akinjo and McClung together. McClung is a much better player with the ball in his hands and actually distributes it better than Akinjo. I see definite improvement in Mosley playing under control. Pickett and Blair cannot have gone from All-Freshmen team to afterthoughts and this team needs both. I hope that the coach can figure out how to bring them into the flow of the offense even if it means having to reign in the freshmen.

I just shudder when I think our opposing BE coaches are going to watch tapes of these games.

It seems to me when Akinjo is in the team just stands around and waits for him to do something. When he's not in they are moving and the ball moves around more. If Pat reigns in the freshman it will be the first time he has done it in his coaching career so far. Both years the freshman have seemed to have the green light.

Pickett went from the 3rd scoring option In the starting line up, to the 4th or 5th and that’s a problem. I think Mourning, Akinjo, and Mac are all taking too many shots, some of which should go to Pickett. I’d have to go back and watch, but he doesn’t seem to move much without the ball to get himself open.
