One issue is that the season now starts ridiculously early. The season used to start at about Thanksgiving week, giving teams a month plus of practice. This is a group that came off a weak year and is incorporating 3 frosh. The returning vets with the exception of Govan and possibly Pickett are role player types.
It will take time for the talented frosh to mature and learn the college game. My one potential concern is Pickett -- he does not seem to mesh and I do not know if it is caused by limitations in his game -- his handle mainly -- or if he is in a funk...

I have also noticed Pickett, i see some improvements defensively but i would have thought he would be more assertive offensively. I'm looking for him to demand more of the action offensively as the team move forward.

This loss will benefit in the long run. Teachable moment...the staff and players were humbled. I think we'll see a different team come Sunday. I hope so! They were too lax and not fired up. I look for more leadership from Govan and Pickett. Surprisingly to me, the leadership appears to be coming from Akinjo and Leblanc.. they are the ones communicating on the court. I do wonder what skills Carter brings...I think he could be an asset, I perceived him to be a shooter, surprising DNPs!!

He hasn't been the same since. With all of them it comes down to coincidence. He will be back soon

McClung had opportunities to pull up and shoot the three. The commentators even wondered aloud why he wasn't taking shots that he was in the best position to take. Well, here's the reason. The kid is so intimidated by Ewing that he is afraid to make a mistake. Mac's confidence is at an all time low. It's been shakened so badly, that Mac truly is afraid to take a jump shot. Anyone who can't see that is blind. Ewing has got to lighten up on Mac when he makes a mistake. Mac is so afraid to make a mistake he's passing up shots he should be taking... and taking without a damned care in the world. When he gets his confidence back, Georgetown's fortunes will be dramatically reversed, because, without a doubt, Mac is the best athlete on the team, and it's not even close. So, Ewing needs to lighten up and encourage Mac to shoot without second guessing himself. Right now, I'm going to bite my tongue and not let the "racism" word slip out, but what I'm beginning to see are two standards emerging with respect to player discipline. Akinjo makes a mistake... a bad pass, a bad shot, a bad call and guess what happens? NOTHING!!! Mac makes even the slightest mistake and Ewing yanks him out of the game. See what I mean? Mac is a much better natural athlete than Akinjo, and if Ewing lets him become his own man... like Jeff Green advises... Mac will lead this team to victory, time after time. Maybe there's no racism involved, but why is Akinjo given special dispensation when he makes a mistake and Mac is punitively benched? I don't understand this post. He just joined, but his prior posts posts didn't seem over the top. Perhaps someone grabbed his phone, made this post and he doesn't know anything about it. Perhaps he is working on a research paper on how to Edited off true Hoya fans. I fell for the last guy, not falling for it this time. Good try troller. Not gonna get punked this time. You younguns. Thanks for keeping me spry and on my toes.

Although the season starts earlier, they can also start practice earlier, which helps. But of course the more time you have to familiarize the freshmen with your schemes and there teammates, the better.

The shooters need to keep shooting. Nothing kills a shooters confidence more than being pulled every time they miss a few. I thought the last regime handled Cameron and others poorly. Pat has a good feel.

Maybe there's no racism involved, but why is Akinjo given special dispensation when he makes a mistake and Mac is punitively benched? this is an extremely misguided posting. McClung needs to settle down, stop trying to do so much and play within himself, and I'm sure that's what coach Ewing is trying to get him to do. He's had some good moments but also a lot of times where he's out of control trying to make a spectacular play. He's gonna be alright eventually but not until he realizes what he can and can't get away with at this level and adjusts his game accordingly. Akinjo is having some of the same type of struggles, but he's handling it better and playing more consistently because he's got a higher skill level than Mac at this point in their development, so he absolutely should have a longer leash for mistakes right now.

Let’s just take a deep breath and see if the team rebounds tomorrow. The defending champions, Villanova just lost its second game this week and it was to FURMAN. the Hoyas top five players happen to be freshmen. They looked good in an up and down game where their natural talent could get them by. LMU’s very good zone defense made them have to think more and rely upon plays designed to beat a zone defense. McClung and Akinjo are still adjusting to the extra foot on the three point line. Many of their 3pt shots are bouncing off the front of the rim. They will adjust before they get to conference play. Pickett has improved his handle somewhat, but not enough at this point to take over a game. I think Patrick not taking many timeouts down the stretch of the game was many pro coaches often do to let their players figure it out. It did not happen this time but I would suspect in similar games come conference time, thei play will be vastly improved so will their decision making

Nice job by the Hoyas today spending some time with local kids and handing out some backpacks. I love that Patrick has continued to embrace the more than basketball and deflated ball ethos. It's probably the part of the program I'm most proud of and, (I've said this before) while I've still not fully formed an opinion of Patrick as a coach, my opinion of him as a human being and as a leader couldn't be more set. We're very lucky to have a man of his character mentoring younger men at our school. Hoya Saxa, Patrick. Well done, sir.
