Other than looking like a 30 year old 7’ NFL linebacker, what has Tim every shown in a game that makes so many think he’s ever going to become anything other than a bull in the China shop, good for a few fouls a game?
In his first 4 mins of play ever, Wilson looked more composed on the court than Tim ever had in any game so far.

Are people seriously surprised that a guy like that picks up some cheap fouls in his first game of the year? How many cheap fouls did All-American Jahidi White pick up his first few years? Huge guys pick up fouls, often unfairly, but it happens.
Tim may never be a star, but his very physical presence out there helps, and he is a force on the boards. I really hope the fanbase is patient with him.

He can’t make two bad plays for every good one, and so far that’s been his MO.

Loved how Malcolm set legal picks, maneuvered around the basket and positioned himself for offensive rebounds, he plays with good BBall IQ. My only problem with Coach Ewing is that for my liking he's been to rigid with his lineups, seemingly unwilling to move on to the next man in an individual game. Play who's playing the best in a game and Malcolm was outperforming Timmy in this game (imo).

I think he just needs to play more. He is so enormous, with long arms. Let's see how Coach Ewing develops him! Well that's on him...coach Ewing can only play you so much when you have 4 fouls in 15 minutes... True! He needs to relax, just a little. These are tough times. How much on-court time has he had since March. His development might take a little time as he adjusts to college play.

Please excuse this doubt posting. My first was in the wrong thread:
For longtime Hoya watchers, I want to throw out a Tom Scates comparison, about whom Coach Thompson said: "He is very intimidating, and few people want to go to the hoop against him." Tim will have to perfect the Tom Scates growl. While his stats were never that impressive over a season, my most memorable Tom Scates performance was a double double in an upset over Alabama, when Alabama's best player was Reggie King. Thompson's postgame comment: Alabama had King, but we had Kong. .

Tim had a 37.5 turnover rate per 100 possessions against UMBC. It is one data point, but if that rate continues it will be difficult to keep him on the floor.

Apologies if this was discussed in some other thread. Any word on why no Timmy in the Coppin State game? Injury? Coaches' decision?

No word. Just thought it might have been due to match-ups. We needed both Tim and Q to stay with WVA due to their bigs and physicality.
Coppin was quicker and a smaller defensive lineup was needed for that game.

Had to go back to page 7 to find his thread!
I honestly think he had a great 1st half. He's obviously not the post scoring option that Q is but I think he might be better rolling in the PnR and had some great passes out when he got the ball down low (including a bounce pass around his man to Jamarko in the middle). He also influenced the ball when X drove the hoop, including a block and avoided a couple of could be goaltending calls when he pulled back in the end...definite development there. Once X went with Freemantle at the 5, Timmy didn't have a role on defense but I would have loved to see him out there a bit in the 2nd. Coach instead decided to go small and we won in the end.
If you read other BE team's boards or Reddit game threads, they are intimidated by our bigs and Tim is a large part of that.

Tim is definitely playing better. Defensively, he has not been leaping at every pump fake the past few games. If he just holds his ground and stays vertical, he is going to disrupt most shots around the rim.
Offensively - I loved seeing him pass out to the perimeter after grabbing an offensive board a couple of times tonight. When he grabs offensive boards, there are usually a couple of defenders right on him. He doesn't have the skill or explosion to power up through defenders and score. Immediately looking for an open 3 point shooter after an offensive board is definitely his best move at this point
If you remember the year Duke won the national title with Brian Zoubek at center - at some point in the middle of that season, Coach K instructed Zoubek to kick every offensive board back out to shooters on the perimeter. Zoubek was a big, strong guy who grabbed a lot of offensive boards. But he had no lift, and could not finish through defenders at the rim. this change in approach was one of the key elements in Duke getting on a roll in the latter part of the season, and going on to win the national title.
I'm not saying that Ighoefe can key any kind of big run for the Hoyas. Just saying that this is a smart adjustment on his/the staff's part.

He’s a surprisingly good free throw shooter for a guy his size.
83% this year vs. 57% last year! Clearly he put the work in there.

I love Timmy, and he provides exactly what you want from a backup center. He also has tons of room for improvement that I think legitimately could happen over the next two years.

12 of 14 is 85.7%.
Small sample but this incredibly helpful.

With more minutes, he could provide 5-8 points and rebounds per game off the bench. Throw in some blocked shots, lots of changed shots, and less fouls, and we would be cooking!

Plus he is a physical presence who provides some old-school Hoya muscle and toughness- which is great. I was glad to see him mix it up with Xavier last night. We have backed down for way too long.

Tim's defense, rebounding and general physicality has been improving all year. good to see this kind of development and hope that he can start adding something not he offensive end next year.
