I am beginning to think that we really are as bad as we look. This looks nothing like a high major basketball team.

Aside from Govan, that wasn't terribly encouraging.

I didn't see the game so can't really comment. I will say we don't beat the cupcakes half as bad as some seemingly just bad teams do. There is no transitive property in sports but it can't be a good thing.

Great game by Govan (26 points, 16 rebounds). The guards: Mulmore, Mosely, Dickerson and Blair had a total of 8 assists and 9 turnovers.

There is no transitive property in sports. Of course there is. It may not be 100% reliable, but you can tell a lot about a team just by looking at results. And our results are not that impressive.

That was tough to watch. We clearly have a long way to go on both sides of the ball. Govan was a bright spot but also struggled at times to finish plays inside at the rim. I thought Walker also showed some interesting flashes in the first half and Pickett looked better than against Maine.
Even so, we bogged down on offense, took way too many threes, and let CSU take way too many shots. Not a pretty outing, but it was a win. On to the next.

Govan has a pro game. I hope he comes back next year.

It would be great if the players made the shots they took. I'm encouraged by the system. Players took good shots. They missed many, but they were the right shots to take. They are playing high-post/low-post exchanges. There's work to do, and players to obtain....but there is progress being made!

Another game that highlighted the flaws on this team, particularly in guard play and on defense. Also another missed opportunity to play Sodom. It seems that he just won’t be a factor this year, particularly if he cannot get into this part of the schedule. Happy to see Pickett finding his stroke, just as Blair seems to be losing his. Ahhh freshmen. It is going to be a tough and trying year. At least Govan growth becomes an obvious recruiting tool for future bigs.

There is no transitive property in sports but it can't be a good thing. Why do people say this? There absolutely is, in aggregate. That's the whole basis of kenpom, or Elo systems, all of which prove pretty reliable. What doesn't work is picking out one data point out of thirty and using that as an absolute. But the transitive property absolutely holds.

Speaking of Kenpom
We started the Year at 80 in kenpom and have slowly improved that ranking making it up to 72 prior to this game. This game pretty much undid all that work and dropped us down to 78.
Worst performance of the year. And it's bad that this is the second game in a row I've said that.
Govan dominated, but besides that not a lot of good in this game. Pickett got on track with his shot and Walker showed a few flashes, but besides that a whole lot of yuck.
The problem is you could tell the guys knew they could drive to the hoop and score ( like moseley did twice going coast to coast) or dump it in to Govan and have him score whenever we wanted to but we didn't bother putting a boot on their necks and finishing them. We just dicked around on offense.
On defense we went from no rotations and help side defense a couple games ago to over helping this game. We played a few good stretches of D in the second half but the effort was consistent. Would love to see us put it together for a whole game prior to the Cuse game, just to prove we can do it. Because we're not good enough to play half assed against anyone with a pulse.
