Players are getting recruited over as we speak. Roster construction is a vital but often overlooked concept. I get the feeling thst next season isn't going to be as smooth or successful for Memphis and coach Hardaway as many think it will be....

What Penny is doing is a master class in roster construction. If I was a Memphis fan I would be ecstatic.

You can't be referring to Les.....man it sucks the advantage that former guards have in recruiting over former bigs....there is absolutely no reason Penny should be able to out recruit Pat...better college career...✓...better pro career...✓...more coaching experience....✓...smh

Think it’s as simple as that. Admittedly I am a little jealous to see how quickly he has upped the talent level there, but I think given his background he was always going to have this edge in his rebuild vs ours. I will say however I thought Pat’s NBA connections and the presence of NBA stars and coaches regularly on campus would help the recruiting front on Top 100 talent, but so far it really hasn’t in terms of high school senior recruits. Where he has shined is in the decommits and transfer market (and maybe the jr college ranks with his first in Alexander). Given I don’t think Pat is ever going to be the best X’s and O’s guy, and transfers are tough to plan for, I do think the high school recruiting needs to improve a bit and we need to be landing 4-stars consistently. Don’t think we’ll land Top 15 guys, but the 40-100 range is well within reach.

Yeah, AAU connections and Memphis ethics help. 😉

Yeah, AAU connections and Memphis ethics help. 😉 I'm impressed that you were able to type "Memphis" and "ethics" in the same sentence without your computer keyboard exploding.

Damn, RJ Cole is real good. Not sure if we could squeeze him in, but he would be a difference maker. Perhaps, Mosley can recruit him.

Chris Clarke is a big, big time player. He is the best available transfer. Off the court issues kept him from playing last year, but I have a few contacts who think those allegations were false. I can't say I know for sure, but I do think kids deserve second chances in life and I am not sure Clarke got a fair shake last year. If the Hoyas clear him off the court, he will be a MAJOR piece on the court for whoever he plays for. Sort of a Dajuan Summers type defender, rebounder who can shoot if he needs to, but he is more of a physical presence than anything else. I think he would be a terrific fit on the Hilltop and hope he gets a real chance. Bede is a solid player who VT took over McClung (according to their people). I have never been super impressed, but he will probably be a nice piece somewhere. Slightly more talented, but smaller Jagan Mosely imo.

Not expected to be eligible next season due to NCAA transfer rules unless a hardship waiver is granted, Woods will redshirt wherever he lands. Sources indicate the Gamecocks are the clear frontrunner, but with star guard A.J. Lawson returning to school, South Carolina doesn't have a scholarship available for next season.
If the Gamecocks are his pick, sources indicate Woods would walk-on with the Gamecocks and be on scholarship during the 2020-21 campaign.Eligibility wonks... This is permissible?

Anthony Mathis, a 6'3" SG from New Mexico just entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Kid is a hell of a 3 pt shooter, but limited on defense and not much of a ball-handler. Shooting suffered a little last year as he was forced to play PG and guard shorter players. One of the best shooters though in the West and rumored to Oregon.

If he was never officially recruited by SC, then yes. I'm not sure all the details of "officially recruited" means -- I know that official visits count, but I'm not sure if that means SC could never proactively reach out, or other restrictions.
