Must say I was/am a big Paul White fan. I predicted he would be a star at Georgetown. I watched many of his HS games on the internet and thought he was the most important player on his team, including Okafor because of his basketball IQ and skills. I thought his skill set was perfect for the Hoya system. For some reason that prediction did not pan out as I had thought, as he did not get as much playing time in his freshman year that I would have thought. I surmised at the time, that it was JTIII's obsession with players who could execute his defense over better offensive options, but figured he would get better at the defensive end and flourish his sophomore season. Then came his hip injury that further weaken his defensive prowess and tanked his sophmore year. However, even before he injured his hip, the Hoyas signed Agau as a transfer, who played the same positions as White, sp/pf. I actually thought at the time that Agau was signed as insurance to play the center position along side of Freshman Govan, not realizing that Hayes would have such a good year. This year I thought, if healthy, he would meet and surpass my original predictions of him being a star at Georgetown. White did not play last year so the collapse of the team and off season predictions that the team would play more uptempo gave me no pause to downgrade my predictions, even with the addition of Pryor. I still find it hard to believe that, if healthy, he could not successfully compete for plying time at sf and pf this year, even if the style of play was more uptempo. If he had not recovered fully from his injuries, why transfer?, since he presumably will not be able to play at his new school this year either and assuming that the transfer was an amicable decision between he and JTIII, so no bar on him plying this year for another team. Oh to assume, what fools it makes of us all. As I started this diatribe, I am a big fan of Paul White and will follow his bb career wherever he ends up. Good kid and a good person to root for. Best of luck Paul to you and your family.

As I understand it, Paul White is leaving because he doesn't want to compete for playing time next year against Jaren Jackson Jr.
1-2-3 Fireballs.

Huge bummer. For anyone who watched the near comeback against Xavier 2 years ago in the BET, they saw the potential of Paul White. A lot to like. Heady and selfless player that every team needs -- the type of guy that becomes a key cog as an upperclassmen.
That said, a few thoughts: - For anyone who saw him this summer, it was pretty clear he wasn't quite back yet (physically). - It's really hard for me to believe JT3 wouldn't be able to find time for a Paul White type of player UNLESS he wasn't physically ready to compete yet. Because as much as everyone wants us to run this year, college basketball is won in the half-court and with defense. Just hard to imagine the value of White's smarts would be lost on JT3. I love Copeland's athleticism as much as the next guy, but I'm not convinced a healthy Cope contributes as much to overall wins as a healthy Paul White. - The perceived depth we have this year can go away in a hurry -- we've seen that time and again, and especially over the last few years. Shoot, MD almost went down in Kenner, Agau's health is still in question, Hayes has a history of getting banged up (and picking up early fouls), and Jesse still isn't physically ready to make stops in the post -- he's just not.
Really excited about the season, but really bummed about losing #13. The type of player you really want to root for.

And that's fine if that's the case but B&G should allude to that instead of posting as this is matter of fact. For whatever reason people (not me) on here tend to take his comments and responses as Gospel with lititle to know facts to back them up. As a perceived "Insider" the comments he made about White transferring were negative and tearing down the kid on his way out the door. "One thing we know for sure was White wasn't going to play anyways or struggle to get minutes" and "White wasn't athletic enough to play the SF position at Georgetown" came across as a jilted ex girlfriend who's having difficult time getting over the shock of the break up. He could have easily stated something to the effect of "Sorry to see White leave the program, he has a lot of potential or he's a good kid and will be a good player for another program" like many other posters have on here. Instead he took shots at White's abilities making it seem as though he's not good enough to play here at Georgetown which anyone who knows the game of basketball knows that isn't true. Once again as a perceived "insider" his words hold a little bit more weight with some (not me) on this board. If he's stating an opinion he should say so, otherwise some may take his comments as insider information or fact. I have no idea why White left nor am I pretending to. The real truth of the matter is that the Hoyas program isn't perceived currently as the type of program that can just let a high level skilled and versatile players walk out the door without a dip in team production especially a versatile prospect as Paul White no matter how deep the team is perceived to be. The brand right now isn't that strong. Lets face facts, our Hoyas haven't even made a Sweet 16 in 10 years and hasn't produced an NBA drafted prospect in over 3 years. Duke, Kentucky, UNC, Kansas, Arizona, Michigan State, Louisville can loose high level talent and not even blink because they win at high level particularly in March and they have high level talent recruits in the pipeline every season. Until the program starts winning at high level and making deep runs in March, loosing high level talent will hurt in some manner. "Jilted ex girlfriend"...really? I've said over and over again that Paul is a great kid who will be missed. Re-read my posts. I like Paul a lot. He was close with everyone on the team and may have had the highest bball IQ on the team. You are right though, I do not think that he is the high level athlete Peak, Copeland, Pryor and Mosely are...so if you want to say that I am tearing him down...run with it. You call it tearing him down, I call it a reasonable assessment of his athleticism. Further, I can't disclose all I know all the time because this board simply isn't the forum to do so. That said, most on this board would agree that Paul would be fighting for minutes this year, most importantly however is that Paul would too. I wish Paul the very best and think we will really miss him 2017/18. Finally, if you have an issue with my posts....feel free to block me. I promise, I won't take it personally. It seems as though your having a difficult time keeping track of the nonsense your spreading as gospel to your domesticated ruminant mammals on this board but your not pulling the wool over my eyes. Your trying to be slick by switching up the argument. Your original statement was that Paul White "wasn't athletic enough to play the small forward position", not that White wasn't an elite athlete like Peak, Copeland, Pryor and Mosely. That's a completely different argument. You making that unsolicited statement is an attack on his abilities along with making the impossible claim to know claim that White wasn't going to play much this upcoming season anyways is an attack on Paul White on his way out the door. Trying to claim that as fact and that's why he transferred is utterly ridiculous. It also has more weight coming from you as a supposed "insider" to your flock who may take that nonsense as truth. It was unsolicited attack and was completely unnecessary. Then your tying to cover it up by back tracking "well if you read my original post, I did say Paul White is a good guy". Nobody on the board questioned whether or not he is of high character or not but I find it funny that you were THE ONLY ONE to throw shots and questioning his basketball abilities. Nobody else, only you! Everybody wished him well, some questioned his health, but ONLY YOU threw shots (multiple unsolicited shots) at his abilities on the court. As insider you should preface your statements with IMO or I think because some of your flock on here may think your speaking from inside knowledge and it's classless because it gets perceived as truth. "Well if B&G said it, it must be true" is what some of your mindless drones on here will believe. Back to why your statement that Paul White wasn't going to play much this year. You quoted your own post in the Starting 5 Thread that ironically you started that White was only going to get 5 minutes of playing time a game and having been pushing this as a fact that is the reason why he left. It's impossible to have any idea how much playing time anyone is going to get in August for a season that doesn't start until mid November. The entire team hasn't even had a full practice with the full coaching staff on hand like they will be able to in October. Players have yet to demonstrate on court chemistry with one another or be instructed by the full staff. I don't care how deep we may appear to be on paper, a player of Paul White's versatility and capabilities would find solid to significant playing time on almost any D1 program in the country especially one that finished with its worst record in over a decade at 15-18 last year. I'm not trying to be a Debby Downer but people on here do realize that all those points that Pryor scored in the Kenner League doesn't actually count in any of the games in November-April. Don't get me wrong, Pryor obviously has abilities and I'm happy he's a Hoya but let's face facts, Kenner League dominance rarely translates to an elite season. Peak arguably had a better or at least as good Kenner league performance entering his freshman year as Pryor did this summer and he had his struggles and has yet to put it all together for a full college season. The point of all this is no one has a clue what the season is going to bring and to say that someone isn't going to get significant playing time in August for a season that starts in November and hopefully ends in April is ABSOLUTELY ASININE. If JT3 told White to his face that he would only play 5 minutes a game and he wouldn't get solid to significant playing time this upcoming season in August like you have alluded to, after the last season this team just had, without having a chance to coach them in multiple full practices, only having Kenner play as an evaluation tool, then I'm going to have to get on the Eagle54 or whoever else is on here's bandwagon that's pushing for a coaching change. Now back to how unbelievably deep the Hoyas are this upcoming season. Where have I read and heard that narrative before??? Hmmmm.....I think I heard this same story/narrative right about this same time last year. Last August we were perceived to be really really deep. The deepest team in the JT3 era is what many were saying. Then right before midnight madness news started to matriculate about injuries. I believe former Long Beach State/USF/Virginia Tech Coach & current ESPN analyst Seth Greenberg attended a practice and alluded to the injuries in a tweet after the practice. Akoy misses the entire season with a knee injury. Paul White was never healthy enough to play at high level but tried to gut it out which he should be commended for until it was no longer possible or in his and the team's best interest. Peak struggled with foul trouble most of the year, Copeland started the season on fire but seemed to hit a mid season wall and struggled with consistency. Tre Campbell was given to much responsibility to manage (my opinion) and took a major step back in his development. Hayes played way better that anyone could have expected but then got hurt. That's how a perceived deep team finishes in 8th place in the BIG EAST and 15-18 overall record. This team still has many question marks that won't be answered until well into the season. We don't know for sure what Mulmore or Mosely will do at the PG. We don't know for a fact that Pryor can and will play at a high level consistently in the BIG EAST. We don't know for sure if the rising sophomores in Derrickson's, Johnson and Govan will take steps forward in their development. We don't know if Peak can stay out of foul trouble or if Copeland can play more of consistent all around game. Heck we don't even know what the offense is going to be. With all of these questions, how could anyone including JT3 for certain say who's going to play and how much in August. So you can miss me with the he left because he wasn't going to play nonsense. If it comes out later that he's still injured, that another story but a healthy Paul White would absolutely get good amount of playing time. I don't blame you asking me to block you as I'm sure I'm upsetting the status quo with your congregation by attempting to pull the veil from their eyes and letting them know they don't have to graze in some of the nonsense your feeding them. Sorry but I have a little bit more knowledge and experience of how all this works so I can see through malaise you have your subjects in. I'm too well educated and experienced in this business to fall for garbage your pushing. I don't know why Paul White transferred but I will tell you this, it was for more then just basketball minutes.

MOD NOTE: Can we please dial it back a bit? Nobody here is happy Paul White is transferring. Similarly, few here are interested in reading repeated diatribes about other posters who are also Hoya fans.
